To think that it is always unacceptable to call a woman a 'slag'?

I think it is hideous and reinforces the misogyny in our society.

Why do people do it?

YANBU. I feel a sort of 'sick on the pit of my stomach' feeling when I hear that word used.

VuvuzelaPlenticlew · 07/07/2010 20:40

Also hate this term, so brazenly judgemental. And Portia is right, half the time it's flung at women just for wearing the "wrong" thing or flirting "excessively".

fairycake123 · 07/07/2010 20:41

I bet qk is fucking DYNAMITE in bed. Surely anyone who thinks that sex and shitting are the same has got to be?

qk · 07/07/2010 20:42

Why would I be a bloke? I'm just a normal woman.

Slag is a word used to describe women who have casual sex and behave in a promiscuous way. Saying that a woman who has slept with 100s of people is a slag is therefore just a statement of fact - in no way is it subjective.

foreverastudent - of course other people can disagree with the definition of "gross" - but "slag" is defined as above.

victoriascrumptious · 07/07/2010 20:43

Lol@Fairycakes.

Too true.

secunda · 07/07/2010 20:44

Some people like sex and shitting together

secunda · 07/07/2010 20:45

'casual' and 'promiscuous' are subjective words. Back to A level Philosophy for you, qk

victoriascrumptious · 07/07/2010 20:45

I have to say i'm not big into shitting. I wouldnt mind someone feeding me a big mac while doing me from behind though. Now THAT is filthy.

Booboobedoo · 07/07/2010 20:45

lol @ secunda.

Also eww.

Op, YADNBU.

ReasonableDoubt · 07/07/2010 20:46

'Statement of fact'?

Well, following that school of thought, I would have to conclude that it is also a 'fact' that people who think it is acceptable to judge a woman's private sexual practices so harshly and crudely are misogynist twats.

Booboobedoo · 07/07/2010 20:46

Takes me back to someone explaining to me what a 'Blumphy' is.

(Don't Google it. It's grim).

victoriascrumptious · 07/07/2010 20:47

Not that there is anything wrong with shitting per se (im not judging those who do) I just like peace and quiet while i'm having a poo also preferably a newspaper or good book to read

VuvuzelaPlenticlew · 07/07/2010 20:47

But some words carry connotations, qk, and "slag" is one. We're not discussing the definition per se, but the judgemental "spin" the term puts on those actions (eg casual sex). You know that, so why pretend it's about the definition in a neutral way?

qk · 07/07/2010 20:55

I find it very strange that many of you who object so strongly to the use of a factual word are happy to be unkind to me.

Perhaps if I had been promiscuous you would respect my feelings a bit more .

victoriascrumptious · 07/07/2010 20:58

Oh don't be such a wuss. If you're going to have an opinion fight for it. Nothing quite as invigorating as a nice bit of verbal sparring.
Come on QK. I'll tag team you. Wait.....

victoriascrumptious · 07/07/2010 20:58

The fact is, women who sleep around obviously have no self respect. They are also possibly a little bit ugly.

qk · 07/07/2010 21:00

I am not being a wuss victoria - I am not going to get upset about what people have written to me - my point was actually what their posts say about them.

ReasonableDoubt · 07/07/2010 21:00

If you think 'slag' is an acceptable word, you surely aren't easily offended?@qk

qk · 07/07/2010 21:02

No, I am not easily offended - I have x posted with you - my point was actually about what their posts say about them.

ReasonableDoubt · 07/07/2010 21:06

But you are arguing that 'slag' is a factual, acceptable word, are you not?@qk

I'll tell you what my post says about me.

I have had 'casual sex' aplenty - in my twenties, when I was single and absolutely gorgeous and batting men off left, right and centre. I had lots of fun. I have NO regrets.

I would have laughed in the face of anyone who dared to call me a slag. It says so much more about them than it does about me.

qk - putting aside whether promiscuity is ok or not (really doesn't bother me personally but thats irrelevant), i think in your post you hit the nail on the head - there is no equivalent word for a man who's promiscuous. And yes i know some people use it to describe men, but generally, and originally, it was a term to describe a woman.

So the problem is, that the insult exists for a woman, but not a man, and is therefore sexist and nasty.

victoriascrumptious · 07/07/2010 21:13

Dittany:- I bet you're rampant in bed

qk · 07/07/2010 21:14

Yes, I am arguing that "slag" is a factual word - see the wiki definition:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slag_(slang)

The 2 main components of the definition are casual sex and promiscuity. You've just admitted to casual sex so did your behaviour meet the defintion of "slag"?

A bloke dumped me after having been together 2 years when I was at uni. I promptly shagged his best mate. I would not be upset to be called a slag for that - it is the truth! I enjoyed it and I don't regret it all. If someone had dared to call me a slag for that, I would have said, "OK then!".

victoriascrumptious · 07/07/2010 21:15
