I don't think that the OP has an issue with MNers having opinions. I think she has an issue with the aggressiveness in some posts that seems a bit of a MN trademark.

I've been badgered to the point of being upset on some threads, a lot of MNers have been quit hostile. I'm not boo-hooing about it. I'm a big girl and I can take it and I'm still here. I just understand where the OP is coming from...

Oh fuck off. They can always go to netmums or fluffy town if they can't hack it here. If they are worried they will get flamed for certain views, that should give them a clue that their views err on the side of wrong.

junglist1 · 10/05/2010 14:31

There are people on here who delight in upsetting others, definetely. It's because they feel inferior in some way so can only be snidey on here.

Every forum I've ever used has had a core of regulars who by dint of longevity are able to "get away with" behaviour or attitudes that would be frowned upon from newer members.

I don't think it's that different to real life really. If you're the new girl in a group you are more circumspect of others' sensibilities than if you are a long-standing alpha member who has the status to ride a bit more roughshod....

Obviously it would be nice if we were all polite and considerate towards one another at all times, but we aren't, and it it is our nature to form hierarchies. Haven't you read Loed of the Flies?

I also think that there are many many regulars who are unfailingly lovely despite - regardless of - their longstanding status.

FluffyVacuity · 10/05/2010 14:33

Can't you just respond when you see it?

So, I saw earlier what (in my humble opinion) was a bit of flaming of an op that was undeserved, so I said so on the thread -in a hilarious way obviously,

People are allowed to disagree with each other, if you see nastiness call it on the thread in question

ChickensNeedOpposableThumb · 10/05/2010 14:33

Hully How terribly rude! Whatever happened to 'This sort of thing makes me so sad '. I always liked those.
