I may have pressed wrong button and posted this elsewhere,I aplogise if I have.
Dog walking, thinking time.
Why does Radio Scotland in droning voice keep telling us that ex amount of peolple have died thru taking comtaminted heroin? Apparently is contains Anthrax and a few bods have died. Surely, they shouldnt be taking the bloody stuff in the first place.
Thru' no fault of my own,I have been treated for Breast Cancer 4 times and continue on long term stuff to try and keep it at bay. I sometimes have to argue my case to get a more expensive drug which has less side effects. Why should resources which could be spent on me and others like me be used for twats who bring it on themselves? Dont mention, smoking, too much alchohol, obesity either!!! To get into the Chemo Room, you rung the gauntlet of patients hooked up to their treatment fagging it outside,i know they maybe on the way out, but I dont care, but why waste the cash? I know, I know, I shouldnt let it get to me,but it does.

Because nothing is that simple.

LittleSilver · 13/04/2010 11:12

fallon, I am very sorry that you have been through a lot. My post is not intended to annoy you, but have you considered that those who use heroin have (very often) come from incredibly abusive backgrounds, been shuffled around the care system and use it to self-medicate? I am not justifying illegal substance misuse but it's not often entered into by people from relatively stable backgrounds.

Missus84 · 13/04/2010 11:13

Yes, heroin addicts deserve to die.

In fact, maybe the government should deliberately contaminate a batch, to kill them all off?

Kaloki · 13/04/2010 11:17

Maybe we should line up anyone who has done anything less than perfect to their bodies. Smokers, overweight people, druggies, alcoholics, self harmers, anorexics, bulimics, etc. And shoot them. That would save lots of money to be spent on the legitimately ill.

SpicedGerkin · 13/04/2010 11:20

YABU To think that you are more worthy than all those people you mention.

lou031205 · 13/04/2010 11:22

YABU, sorry.

MmeLindt · 13/04/2010 11:22

You are going to get flamed for your post, and that is a shame.

Not because I share you views but I can see that the struggles that you have gone through with your health would make you feel that way.

skihorse · 13/04/2010 11:27

YABU.

I'm a firm believer in that "normal, happy" people don't just wake up one morning and decide to hunt out their local smack dealer. Substance abuse is imo a deep-rooted psychological addiction which is being used to mask psychological problems.

You might as well say all alcoholics deserve to be poisoned with anti-freeze - stupid bastards, non? But alcohol is different isn't it? Outwardly affects naice people too.

tartyhighheels · 13/04/2010 11:27

YABU and this sort of daft crap wouldn't be really practical in the real world would it? Who decides who is a worthy case? you? because you have been ill does that make you more worthy and your opinion more valid? If you had smoked in your life and contributed towards you own cancer would you have refused treatment because you may have been to blame.

Are you actually suggesting that if anyone who is fat or a smoker etc is not worthy of treatment?

Get back in your box and think this through a little, next time you are at the doctors make sure you get that knee jerk reaction checked and the chip on your shoulder removed.

LemonDifficult · 13/04/2010 11:33

YABU! There is a little bit of truth in what you say but if you do let this get to you you'll end up pretty bitter. Take a (free) chill pill if you can.

DramaInPyjamas · 13/04/2010 11:35

@fallon8

Just because they are heroin addicts (or smokers, fat, etc..) doesn't mean they deserve to just die.
You don't know the full story behind their problems..

What a snobbish, nasty attitude.

harleyd · 13/04/2010 11:37

"Get back in your box and think this through a little, next time you are at the doctors make sure you get that knee jerk reaction checked and the chip on your shoulder removed."

couldnt have put it any better than that

ChickensHaveSinisterMotives · 13/04/2010 11:39

fallon8, I don't think YABU to feel that way considering what you've been through. I also suspect that you know that, and you're just venting some frustration. Completely understandable IMO.

addictedtothefirsttrimester · 13/04/2010 11:40

i completly sympathise with you, i watched my much loved uncle who has never smoked, touched alcohol or taken drugs die of bowel canncer not so long ago. when we went to visit him in hospital we had to walk past the smokers, drug takers, alcoholics etc.

and always had the sence of WHY???

but at the end of the day we live in a country where (rightly) every one is entitled to free nhs care no matter what they do to them selves.

i feel your anger is misplaced. and you sound like you've been through a lot, so your perspective is completly understandable.

i really hope you win your battle

skihorse · 13/04/2010 11:45

WTF?

There are some schools of thought which suggests some cancers are "lifestyle" related - e.g., cosmetics, diet. Do we now want every woman who used talc to be killed if she gets cervical cancer? Anyone who eats a shit diet deserves bowel cancer?

tartyhighheels · 13/04/2010 11:47

I would have thought to be honest that your brush with this kind of serious illness, and the fact you are a survivor would have made you feel fortunate that you have so much in your life, that you are not cursed with an addiction and are able to make good decisions for yourself - you are even able to argue for better drugs, a lot of people for whatever reason cannot even do that.

My non drinking non smoking mother died horribly and slowly of cancer, it disabled her for over two years and left her bed bound and dead by 53 years old. She never once would have resented anyone else having treatment for whatever reason.

Thank goodness, with all its faults we have the NHS.

MmeLindt · 13/04/2010 11:49

Good post, Addictedtothefirsttrimester.

PrettyCandles · 13/04/2010 11:52

Ease up a bit on the OP! Which of us has had to cope with something vile, yet never thought how unfair it was that others get away so easily? Are you super-humanly charitable?

I'm not surprised fallon8 feels this way. I'm sure that deep down she knows it's not right. But it's also not right that she is having to fight so hard. The world can be an unfair place and we have to cope.

And this is Mumsnet. Fallon8 is allowed to vent. No need to reply so nastily.

LittleMrsHappy · 13/04/2010 11:53

YABU, AND I AM NOT SORRY ABOUT IT!

Addicts are still people, who made the wrong choice or was made to go down a certain route by society being judgemental and unsupported to their desperate pleas for help.
They dont wake up one morning and think im going to be a smack head today etc....

your anger is misplaced, do you honestly believe that if none of the above addicts were here they would give cancer patients more money to get expensive treatment, No it would go elsewhere or be thrown in another pot.

boiledeggandsoldiers · 13/04/2010 11:55

What Littlesilver said.

SpicedGerkin · 13/04/2010 11:56

PC - Venting fine, saying that anyone less than perfect deserves to be left to die = not fine, and this is AIBU.

PrettyCandles · 13/04/2010 12:00

She's not saying they deserve to die. She's saying that she resents the fact that she has to fight for treatment, yet others who won't make the effort to look after themselves, do get treatment.

I'm not saying I agree with her. I am saying she is justifiably hurt and angry, and that we should consider not just her words but also her situation and feelings.

Yes, this is AIBU. But this is also Mumsnet. Some people think that AIBU = licence to be nasty.

stinkypinky · 13/04/2010 12:03

YABU

"A few bods have died..." These "bods" are people... sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters...

And having a go at smokers, overweight etc.

Clearly you are perfect in every way, and blessed with perfect genes.

SpicedGerkin · 13/04/2010 12:06

That isn't true though, anyone in her situation fat, thin or purple would have the same fight.

'Why should resources which could be spent on me and others like me be used for twats who bring it on themselves? Dont mention, smoking, too much alchohol, obesity either!!!'

She doesn't need to say they deserve to die, she said resourses shouldn't be spent on them, same difference, no?

Yes some people do, including the OP!

OP didn't consider the feelings of many in her OP, if you want consideration, show it to others.

stinkypinky · 13/04/2010 12:06

PrettyCandles OP is being nasty!!!
