to cringe when I see handbags on kitchen works tops?

Is my pet hate. Handbags get put on the floor all the time - on trains, buses, shops, pubs, in the loo. Then people put them on their kitchen work top, or on the kitchen or dining room table when they come in. Do other people avoid doing that? Or just me?

I am expert at holding mine under my chin in public loos.

i just flicked back from another thread about boobs to this line. no doubt in a few years time mine will be chin-held also!

cornsilkwearscorsets · 10/11/2009 17:17

Ha ha! If only I could hold my bag under my norks.

oldraver · 10/11/2009 17:21

Dont know where 'escepatable' came from

mollyroger · 10/11/2009 17:23

you are all loons.

SarfEasticated · 10/11/2009 18:08

I have an 'across the body' (great for pushchair pushing handbag, so it just stays across my body when I am out. I would never put it on the floor

EyeballsintheSky · 10/11/2009 18:24

Bloody hell, I should have dropped dead years ago. My bag goes on the floor on the train, at work, on the kitchen surfaces... My mum used to sit me on a stool in the kitchen to brush my hair and I would imagine I'll do the same to dd when she has some.

And, I also put my book on the lid of the loo seat when I'm getting into or out of the bath. Should I paint a cross on my front door?

Chulita · 10/11/2009 18:25

I am so with the OP on this. It's not that my handbag is scutty but it does sit on surfaces that I wouldn't eat off and I hate it when I see them on kitchen surfaces! I read some of this to DH, went into the kitchen to find the bin on the side Ack!

Ivykaty44 · 10/11/2009 18:28

How often do you wash your hands after you have used your pc?

The keyboard is dirtier than the bottom of your handbag

wonderingwondering · 10/11/2009 18:33

Traceybath, I am so with you on the towels on the loo seat. Yuck. And the suitcases! They stay on the floor.

Cheesesarnie, you've got me shuddering with your links. Although not too bad as the kitchen and bag both look very cleeeeeannnnn.

Am not OCD, honestly. Just middle-aged and neurotic

(Cornsilk - no worries on the Matches returns, they were fine and the pick-up service (DHL?) give a time they're going to call to collect... I may be overdue another online shopping trip though. Any recommendations? May have to buy a new pristine handbag as all the horror at putting bags on the floor has got me thinking... )

scottishmummy · 10/11/2009 18:33

dont put my handbags on floors and certainly not wc floors

Emster30 · 10/11/2009 19:37

What I don't like is that my husband will put things down on the chopping board like, for example, plastic bags full of shopping that have been on the checkout packing area in the supermarket, in the trolley and in the grubby boot of the car. I wouldn't mind the work surface, but the chopping board, that food is prepared on...

Romanarama · 10/11/2009 19:47

oldraver it's not a faff at all. I got it when I was living in mediterranean climes and spent many hours a day in pavement cafes where hanging your bag on the back of the chair was a bit like handing it to a passing vagrant. Apparently theft of this kind is just as rampant in Starbucks etc though.

Romanarama · 10/11/2009 19:48

Ivy Katy's point is very good. The kitchen surface is cleaned loads of times per day. Things like the remote control and lightswitches are where the viruses are really partying away.

alypaly · 10/11/2009 19:53

i cant believe people let cats walk over theirs and then they chop up food in the same place ...eewwww!!!!!!!!!!

BulletProofMum · 10/11/2009 19:53

surely life is too shrot to worry abotu any of this!

as many have pointed out - germs are everytwhere!

You can't live life in a hermatic seal. so what's the point!

Hey the cat even walks over the kitchen surface, digs in the dirt, brings dead mice in, sleps with the children, licks his arse... need I go on?

EightiesChick · 10/11/2009 19:54

YANBU, OP. I hate this too. Glad so many of you are so dextrous as to never have to put your handbag on the floor in a public toilet, but I do. I also put it on many other surfaces I wouldn't then want the residue from to get on the kitchen work surface. Even if they're cleaned afterwards, it's still ugh. So my bag always stays on the floor and doesn't infect surfaces.

MrsGuyofGisbourne · 10/11/2009 19:56

LOL @ the viruses partying!!!! I got flamed on MN recently when I said that I have hand-cleaner in the car, and because I shake hands a lot in my job always use after meetings before I touch my face or eat.
Would not put my handbag on loo floors either - does that make me acomplete basket case....

wonderingwondering · 10/11/2009 19:58

It's not so much germs/viruses as the dirt issue. Dirty train/tube floors, streets, loo floors, then on to the worktop. I know you can clean it, but you wouldn't put your shoes on a food prep or eating surface. Or would you?

EccentricaGallumbits · 10/11/2009 20:00

no room for my handbag on my kitchen surfaces. they are too covered with papers, books and cats.

BulletProofMum · 10/11/2009 20:01

I guess I would!

happywomble · 10/11/2009 20:27

Gosh if I'm not cooking I don't want anything on my kitchen surfaces. ...only things left there are kettle, toaster and microwave which have no where else to live.

I wipe the surfaces after every meal. Other areas of the house not so clean though and I'll admit I never clean computer keyboard.

mollyroger · 10/11/2009 20:27

I cannot believe there are well over a million diffrent hits when you google handbag clips.
I'd never heard of such a thing until just now.

I hereby renounce my position as a woman...I am a failure and a disgrace to my sex.

oldraver · 10/11/2009 21:29

I only saw them in our local cheap shop a few months ago and they were just shouting out 'mother' to me

scottishmummy · 10/11/2009 21:34

domestic bag clips?i know of pub clips.not domestic.where do you situate them?

Earthstar · 10/11/2009 21:41

Letting cats walk on worktops or tables is much worse
