to cringe when I see handbags on kitchen works tops?

Is my pet hate. Handbags get put on the floor all the time - on trains, buses, shops, pubs, in the loo. Then people put them on their kitchen work top, or on the kitchen or dining room table when they come in. Do other people avoid doing that? Or just me?

I wouldn't put my bag on a floor that looked dirty, but an ordinary doesn't-leave-marks-on-the-bag floor, of course I would.

I also crawl under my desk on my hands and knees if I need to wiggle wires in the back of my computer.

Poledra · 09/11/2009 23:01

Look, my 16-mo DD3 will eat her own shoes, her sisters' shoes and was prepared to have a go at my expensive Hobbs boots tonight except I caught her eyeing them up...... She laughs at a few paltry germs from my (~£110 ) handbag on the worktop.

And I don't put food directly on the worktop either, it's on a plate or a chopping board.

Quattrofangs · 09/11/2009 23:06

Blimey

I think you need to worry about something more serious

mummymoomy · 09/11/2009 23:24

busybutterfly · 09/11/2009 23:48

cheesesarnie · 09/11/2009 23:49

op-freak out

busybutterfly · 09/11/2009 23:49

Slarty put with a cup of tea

Geocentric · 09/11/2009 23:50

No one ever puts their handbag on the floor over here - it's meant to be bad luck and, um, drain away all you money or summat... (or get nicked - more likely!!)

cheesesarnie · 09/11/2009 23:51

omg cover your eyes

Geocentric · 09/11/2009 23:53

cheesesarnie

Quattrofangs · 10/11/2009 00:10

Is this actually verging on OCD?

I think the OP needs support and lots and lots of healthy germs to get her through this.

cheesesarnie · 10/11/2009 00:33

oh no.really?i feel bad now.

op if you are ocd then im very sorry.

mamayaya · 10/11/2009 07:49

This is my dh's pet hate. It doesn't bother me that much!

ShauntheSheep · 10/11/2009 08:16

Well thats one less thing to worry about as I dont actually have a handbag.

LifeOfKate · 10/11/2009 08:24

I always clean the work surface before I use it anyway, as the cats sit on them when there is no-one around to shoo them off. Drives me mad, it's the only 'naughty' thing they do. So anyway, I don't put my handbag on the worksurface either, but cats bums are far worse, so worksurfaces get cleaned regularly anyway

facebookaddict · 10/11/2009 09:31

Animals in the kitchen - my 'pet' hate...

Morloth · 10/11/2009 09:32

Lower your standards, embrace the filth, I guarantee your life will be happier and easier.

StealthPolarBear · 10/11/2009 09:33

op - me too!
although i don't put mine down in the loo i thought other people did

MintyCane · 10/11/2009 09:34

I don't have a handbag and don't think i have ever noticed people putting them on a worksurface. I must get out more.

Doodlez · 10/11/2009 09:35

Sometimes, I've been known to jump up and SIT on the kitchen work surface

It's OK though because I climb into a hermetically sealed bodysuit every morning, et voilá, no buttock to surface contamination.

Morloth · 10/11/2009 09:37

I have put a small child down on the kitchen work surface. Often one with a nappy on, that might have wee in it.

blueshoes · 10/11/2009 09:53

Deffo OCD. It is interfering with normal life.

Chandon · 10/11/2009 10:05

I never put handbag on floor especially not in a public loo !!!

At home normally hang it from chair, or put on surface (!)
