to cringe when I see handbags on kitchen works tops?

Is my pet hate. Handbags get put on the floor all the time - on trains, buses, shops, pubs, in the loo. Then people put them on their kitchen work top, or on the kitchen or dining room table when they come in. Do other people avoid doing that? Or just me?

I thought it might be a bit of a 'niche' concern. But concerning, to me, nonetheless.

I like the idea of ant-bac wipe on my bag, will it not mark the leather?

I also always carry alcohol gel to avoid the floor germs, so no worries about that

Do people really keep their bag on their lap all the time? Even on really over-heated trains? I get too bundled up and stuffy.

what's a handbag?

(pockets here)

I hate these threads

They make me realise that I need to go to MORE PEOPLE'S HOUSES

I just shuttle between the school gate and my own house

VengefulSinner · 09/11/2009 20:28

Rarely put my bag on the floor. Never in a toilet or tube/train - people pee there! (yes, that includes public transport). At a friends house it goes on a chair, in mine - anywhere! Inc. kitchen top.

And I have a cheap £10 thing from Asda!

I think we worry far to much about germs etc. We need exposure to some!

Bonsoir · 09/11/2009 20:30

I hang my bag on the back of a chair or keep in on my knee or on the bag hook if I go to a loo when out (in a shop, for example). I never, ever, ever put it on the floor. It has its own special chair at home

wonderingwondering · 09/11/2009 20:32

I try not to notice what other people do in their own homes. But handbag-on-worktop draws my eye.

I suspect I am BU.

But now I am wondering whether I am judged, when on the train, for putting my bag on the dirty floor

I would never ever put my handbag on the floor anywhere

eeeuuuwww

hf128219 · 09/11/2009 20:34

Always put my handbag on the floor.

Are you not meant to push your pram into the house either?

FabioTwitterCat · 09/11/2009 20:35

lol lol lol ggirl

Bonsoir fess up
you has a tartan shopper
It's not a 'special chair' it's a 'brake'

PerArduaAdNauseum · 09/11/2009 20:36

I trained myself to hang my bag up when DS was little, so I'd never have to find him with a mouthful of 'mummy's special sweets' or similar. But have never worried about germs, and wouldn't want to mess the leather with an alchohol wipe. Do use the hooks in loos though, and have done a worlds strongest man impression holding strap in teeth when no hook available

PerArduaAdNauseum · 09/11/2009 20:38

No, just a small migraine pharmacy!

FabioTwitterCat · 09/11/2009 20:38

Or actually sweets?

PerArduaAdNauseum · 09/11/2009 20:38

And some chocolate.

FabioTwitterCat · 09/11/2009 20:38

Ah.

Because if it was real sweets, then it's not a hand bag, it's a party bag.

FabioTwitterCat · 09/11/2009 20:39

Oh it is!

wonderingwondering · 09/11/2009 20:40

The pram wheels stay on the floor, that is OK, like the soles of shoes.

Kitchen worktop, table: different.

Do you all really carry your bag at all times? Even when eating/drinking? Or hanging on a chair - don't you worry about having it stolen? I've been approached by police and told not to keep my bag like that. So under the table it goes, handle looped round my leg. So out of the way and safe (apart from germ exposure, of course...)

The only thing I worry about in the loo is that someone in the cubicle next to me could swipe my handbag from underneath the door ??! so I use the peg. These things just don't cross my mind......

wonderingwondering · 09/11/2009 20:42

Computer slow...

If DS drags me into the loos at the local supermarket I worry that the miasma/detritus is going to go over the top of my shoes. Not putting anything I care about down in that!

Lapsedrunner · 09/11/2009 20:45

Hulababy · 09/11/2009 20:45

I put bags on kitchen worktops and tables.

I never put my bag on a toilet floor, but it is on the floor in the houses, in the classroom, etc.

However I always give my worktop a good wipe down before starting to prepare food.

KristinaM · 09/11/2009 20:46

well if you all breast fed your children until they were 10 you wouldn't have to worry about germs

[ducks and runs away]

Lapsedrunner · 09/11/2009 20:49

Worksurface is just an extension of a table really. Do you food directly on the table? I suspect not, I use a plate or chopping board....same as I would with the worksurface = handbag on worksurface will not kill you!
