to think that Brazilian waxes are NOT the norm. Or am I deluded?

Article in the Times basically saying that it is an expectation nowadays that women will have Brazillians.

women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/relationships/article6893826.ece

Is this the case nowadays? I have never had a wax job down below and have no intention of. Sod that!

Particularly at this quote: "There is something hugely irritating about being forced to conform to an aesthetic ideal instigated and perpetuated by the porn industry, but...it is now expected. If your boyfriend has been conditioned to expect a tidy Brazilian, he may genuinely find anything else very off-putting".

Really? Or in actually still having pubic hair am I the modern equivalent of the wild woman of Borneo?

Can't get the image of DH with no hair on his man bits out of my head - think it would just look really weirdy!

My beatician said when I was in last week for a neatening that she has a couple that come in and watch each other have all their hairs ripped out - she is a bit uncomfortable doing it as the guy comes right up to the table to watch!!!!

Nahla · 01/11/2009 15:04

That's interesting malificence.

IME any touch is more intensified if there's less hair in the way. Makes both giving and receiving more exciting (for DH and I).

But hey, whatever gets you going!

bamboobutton · 01/11/2009 15:06

to answer missgreatbritains question:

No, my house is and was a shit-tip

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 01/11/2009 15:09

Once again Malificience you are extrapolating from your own experiences and making a generalisation! It's not an 'argument' that sex is better, it's an opinion based on peoples' own experiences. What floats your boat won't for someone else, and vice versa.

belgo · 01/11/2009 15:15

It's not more hygienic to strip away pubic hair, whether by shaving, waxing or whatever.

There is a risk of infection from ingrowing hairs - that is not a pretty sight, I can assure you.

And by shaving/waxing, not only do you strip away the hair, but also the protective oils produced by your skin, making your skin even more vulnerable to infection.

Leave your hair as nature intended. Nothing more off putting then a rash and itchy stubble.

bamboobutton · 01/11/2009 15:20

i've never had rashes, ingrown hairs or infections and i've been shaving since i was about 19.

i've experienced quite the opposite actually and have had thrush more times (about 15x) in the 2 years i've been unshaven than in all the years i was a baldie.

mwahahamwahahallyroger · 01/11/2009 15:26

if you use a mooncup, you're pretty much 'clean' during periods anyway.

bellavita · 01/11/2009 15:28

I have had brazillian waxes - never been on all fours though, legs over the beauticians shoulders yes...

I like the look and so does DH, but equally he likes it however I want it to be.

I asked my dh what he thought about it once and he said if he saw a woman with no pubic hair he would assume she was a hooker or in porn.

So I guess at least some men realise porn is not the norm....

I've never taken it all off (though am very tempted before the dc I'm expecting is born - I found cleaning my pubic area after the last birth a horrible job) but the amount I take off varies very dramatically according to my mood when I'm waxing - and I don't think dh so much as notices the difference. I like it pretty smooth but am too lazy to keep it up.

bellavita · 01/11/2009 15:34

I would always pay for someone to do the waxing.

thesecondcocking · 01/11/2009 15:55

i am not brave enough to do it myself-i go to a specific salon to get waxed and another beautician for facials/eyebrows and stuff. I find it hard to relax with someone enough to enjoy a beauty treatment if i know they've seen my anus...call me prim...

cakeslover · 01/11/2009 16:17

well I'm a brazilian and find very amusing that the pubes hairstyle are called like this. in brazil you'll find that many women shave as well, but mostly have it waxed because it will last longer (at least a month I'd say), your hair will grown weaker with time and it's very cheap to have it done this way. Been leaving in Europe for 5 years, found that even in the winter I'll feel the need to be well groomed down there. it's just part of the all beauty routine like having my nails done, a proper haircut, make up on, etc

KnottyLocks · 01/11/2009 16:26

Heard of the 'Vegas'? Basically same as the Hollywood except once finished, they apply some sparkly bits and stick-on gems.

And no I haven't.

Wonder if they do Christmas colours.

nikki1978 · 01/11/2009 16:35

I usually have a brazilian/full hollywood as it just feels nicer down there to me. My husband likes it but it is not why I do it. I never shave as I get teriible rashes. TBH though I am not bothered about the hair on the front just the stuff underneath and round towards the back. I have excess hair due to PCOS and have a bit of a hairy bottom so feel far more feminine after a full wax.

I am the only person I know who has it done though. Most of my friends wouldn't even have their legs waxed as they are too scared!

dizietsma · 01/11/2009 16:59

I trim, mostly because it gets a bit irritating if I don't. Not so keen on the idea of waxing, ingrown hairs and the resultant big juicy zits are not particularly attractive IMHO.

Also don't like the hairless girl/porn star symbolic implications of full waxing, I don't care if it's what's expected, I think it's gross. Especially because it's now so expected. Symptomatic of a society with barely concealed paedophilic tendencies, IMO. Thankfully DH agrees with me, and has shown no preference.

I am bisexual, and don't think unshaven is unattractive or more bothersome during sex.

GinSlinger · 01/11/2009 19:02

I am 50 and could probably sweep the floor with mine - it's hair, not something ugly or infectious - I'm quite happy to have it 'au naturel'

BlueberryPancake · 01/11/2009 19:07

I just have the 'moustache' waxed during winter, and at spring time I have a more pronounced wax and more taken out between the legs. For me, it's just a question of keeping it 'tidy' which I think is the norm, but a full wax is not the norm in my group of friends. Nobody does it as far as I know. I'm late 30s and I really don't relate to the porn industry and couldn't care less what they do with their pubic hair.

Claire236 · 01/11/2009 19:36

I'm an aspiring porn star & dh is closet paedophile obviously. How completely ridiculous. You can personally find it gross if you like but to make a judgement like that for everyone else is moronic.

LoremIpsum · 01/11/2009 19:39

It all just looks a bit lippy when bare. Trim and tidy I can understand, but the fully plucked look is a mystery to me.

PollyParanoia · 01/11/2009 19:42

I was a bit taken aback to read that Jordan (not representative female, obv) shaves her bits and her legs and her arm bits every day. That's quite weird no? Then it got even weirder when she said she shaves her arms, her arms?, (much italic action called for with all this) a few times a week too. Am I hirsute chimp of a woman for not shaving my arms?

PollyParanoia · 01/11/2009 19:43

Obviously would be good if I could actually do italics but italicised sentiment there nonetheless.

whomovedmychocolatecookie · 01/11/2009 19:49

Ho ho!

Actually I'm with BoF, I could keep a squirrel warm with mine and my pits and legs could also be knitted into a small ladder for minibeasts to escape from floods.

whomovedmychocolatecookie · 01/11/2009 19:52

Having read this I feel quite nauseous about the whole idea.

PixiNanny · 01/11/2009 19:53

I wax my armpits and lower legs. I tinker with the idea of waxing 'down below' but attempted it once and the wax strip came half off yet the wax was still stuck down below. Took days for that to come off and stop sticking to my knickers! Never again! I shave the 'sex' area down below but not the whole thing, looks to much like a little girl shudder
