to think that Brazilian waxes are NOT the norm. Or am I deluded?

Article in the Times basically saying that it is an expectation nowadays that women will have Brazillians.

women.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/women/relationships/article6893826.ece

Is this the case nowadays? I have never had a wax job down below and have no intention of. Sod that!

Particularly at this quote: "There is something hugely irritating about being forced to conform to an aesthetic ideal instigated and perpetuated by the porn industry, but...it is now expected. If your boyfriend has been conditioned to expect a tidy Brazilian, he may genuinely find anything else very off-putting".

Really? Or in actually still having pubic hair am I the modern equivalent of the wild woman of Borneo?

I am nearly 40 and would sooner poke my eye out with a shitty stick than do THAT.

It has come to my attention recently that women of 10 or so years younger than me do spend a hell of a lot more time on nails and deforestation.

bellissima · 31/10/2009 16:23

I go swimming every week (when the varms are in school that is) and have a half leg and bikini wax about once a month (ish - probably less in winter - well there's no one to impress/shock that much down my local pool!). But I go for the neat triangle look, mainly because it grows back there much quicker than on the legs and I think it would look really tatty if I had a Brazilian. I bet beauticians must love the latter because you would have to go back so frequently.

PeedOffWithNits · 31/10/2009 16:24

salvadori - all that shows is that there is a higher level of brazilians in those attending GUM clinics, which if relating to STDs might be explianed by the fact that among the younger and more promiscuous ladies it might be the norm, but among the older married boring people like me, it is not

AlaskaNebraska · 31/10/2009 16:24

god i dont
i trim

SlackSally · 31/10/2009 16:25

Absolutely not. Share away.

PeedOffWithNits · 31/10/2009 16:26

seriously, one reason i would not do this is the sheer cost involved? once you start paying for that sort of maintainance, you have to keep it up and it must get expensive

GetOrfMoiLand · 31/10/2009 16:27

Imagine working in a beauty clinic and waxing all those fanjos.

Niiiice.

Mamazonabroomstick · 31/10/2009 16:28

I just shave it all off.
I just do it as an extension to shaving my legs so its no real hardship.

I did let it grow for DP but omg it itched for days!

bellissima · 31/10/2009 16:28

PS - I thought a 'Brazilian' was a thin landing strip and a 'Hollywood' or whatever, (reading the leaflet at the beauticians) was the full pre-pubescent Monty - someone younger and more switched on please explain.....

OvergrownBush · 31/10/2009 16:28

Well despite my name I'm naturally rather tidy i.e not stragglers outside of the knicker line .

But I do have a bit of a thing about not liking shaved fanjos because, as was hinted at by Mamazon, it's pre-pubescent girls that are naturally hair free so I do feel a bit ewww that men are turned on by this look.

I know that not all men are peados and all that but I do worry that young men think that the smooth look is natural.

FlyMeToDunoon · 31/10/2009 16:31

Two friends of mine, both regular waxers [one landing strip, one tidy triangle] have recently paid over £600 each to have lazer treatment and all excess hair removed. I thought it was the most ridiculous waste of money.
So come on EG spill!

Mamazonabroomstick · 31/10/2009 16:31

The Porn industry expect women to be clean shaven or at the very most have nothing more than a thin strop of hair. that is because it is easier for the camera to see the "action"

Young girls see these porn stars and want their fanjo's to look just like them. Men are now used to their women looking more and more like porn stars (fake nails, hair extensions, shaven haven's etc)

I think it is indeed porn led, but perpetuated by women rather than men.

salvadory · 31/10/2009 16:34

I don't like the whole trend for depilation that seems to be sweeping anyone under 35. Once went out with a much younger very hairy man who was tormented by his chest hair despite me loving it.
Don't think it's linked just to girls either, as there seems to be a bit of a trend towards men removing hair everywhere including down there also (this is non GUM obtained info btw!!)

HeadFairy · 31/10/2009 16:35

I can't abide the bald look... I neaten up in summer really but get very lazy in winter and just let it all grow out so currently I'm a bit like this!!

HeadFairy · 31/10/2009 16:36

perhaps I should have one of these...

OvergrownBush · 31/10/2009 16:39

GOML when I was last in the beauticians, having my bi-annual eyebrow waxing, they were telling me about someone they'd had in earlier who had had the whole works (fanjo/bumcrack/lower back) but had not been very thorough in the arsewiping department - now that niiiice (not )

bellissima · 31/10/2009 16:39

I paid a fortune and suffered hellish pain to have a few stray hairs above the bikini line electrocuted sorry electrolisissed (oh you know what I mean!) in my twenties. My big sister horrified me when she told me that they would all grow back with pregnancy hormones etc when I had children. Fortunately only one did.

EG - we need to know.

Sn0wflake · 31/10/2009 16:41

I know people do it but I personally think it looks a bit weird. I like to keep it tidy especially before a holiday.

Having no hair or very little there reminds me of being prepubescent and just feels odd.

OvergrownBush · 31/10/2009 16:44

Of course the danger for men having it done is this

GetOrfMoiLand · 31/10/2009 16:53

Lolol Bush's ares-wiping story!

Morloth · 31/10/2009 17:28

Madness, I like my fur - everywhere, I don't shave my legs or mess about with my eyebrows or any of it, except my underarms which annoy the fuck out of me for some reason.

I do my pits and do my legs in summer, but nothing else no way. And I do think it is all a bit this prebuscent girl look down there. Very odd.

PuppyMonkey · 31/10/2009 17:49

pre-pubescent?? Do I mean?

electra · 31/10/2009 17:56

I wax it all off - think it looks tidier especially when wearing nice underwear / swimsuits etc.
