AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

Running away again,Moomin? Well I guess we'll need more clues . Must go and get ready for work - see you all later!

CJCregg · 08/09/2009 09:55

Do you have far to go, Moomin?

steamedtreaclesponge · 08/09/2009 11:18

Oh, Neverwhere! I should have got that, watched the TV adaptation only a little while ago.

My last one was Rivals, Moomin - fewer horses and more brattish TV stars in hideous 80s outfits!

...It's not that I don't have friends, but I am rather averse to big gatherings. I'd rather chill out in my ancestral pile...

stickylittlefingers · 08/09/2009 13:03

I haven't yet seen the TV version - one for lovefilm I think. I liked the book a lot, and when I was last in London I kept having other worldly experiences!

Treacle - are you feeling pressure to get married?

steamedtreaclesponge · 08/09/2009 13:51

I thought it was a good adaptation - perhaps a trifle dated now but definitely worth watching.

...No, no weddings on the horizon, I'm a confirmed curmudgeonly old batchelor I'm afraid!

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/09/2009 13:55

Drat, you still sound like Badger, Treacle!

...I'm not wanted at home and I'm in serious trouble at school so I thought I'd seek my fortune in London...

More clues, please!

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 08/09/2009 14:07

pops in to say hello!
goes off to cogitate.....

CJCregg · 08/09/2009 14:10

Afternoon, all - also popping in, also off to cogitate. Sadly my cogs are rather unwilling to tate at the moment ...

steamedtreaclesponge · 08/09/2009 15:33

Oh sorry, Moomin, yes I am! Had to catch up with loads of posts from last night and I missed yours. Whoops

CJCregg · 08/09/2009 16:51

You don't fancy life as a travelling player, do you Moomin?

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/09/2009 17:03

Well, now you come to mention it, CJ, I hadn't thought of it before but it turns out I have a talent for it! Well done!

And what happened to your kitchenmaid fancier?

That's a relief, Treacle, because I couldn't think of anyone else but Badger!

AIBU to worry about my little boy?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 08/09/2009 17:39

Ah well, Moomin, it was in the air, somehow!

The kitchen maid ... well, she isn't always here, so I don't see her as often as I'd like to. She visits her aunt sometimes - I think she lives in London, somewhere near Chelsey?

steamedtreaclesponge · 08/09/2009 18:02

Still stuck on yours, CJ

So what was yours, Moomin? I'm sure I've read it as it rings a bell but I just can't think...

AIBU to not want to get married?

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/09/2009 18:35

I'm very stuck on too, CJ, I did have one candidate but you've ruled that out with your other clues.

Well, it all depends, Treacle. More detail, please! Oh, and I'm afraid mine was yet another Antonia Forest, The Players' Boy, about an ancestral Marlow! It was reprinted fairly recently so it isn't too difficult to get hold of but I wouldn't delay, if you're interested.

...After all, lots of children have imaginary friends...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 08/09/2009 20:13

note to self mustread some AF in order to stand a chance on some AIBUs!

moomin yanbu if his friends are (whispers) dead people....

treacle has your marriage been arranged for you?

steamedtreaclesponge · 08/09/2009 21:52

...Yes it has, Polly, my parents have arranged it...

More clues from everyone, please!

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/09/2009 22:26

Don't worry, Polly, I think we're running out of AFs, mind you, Autumn Term's been on these threads at least three times! But do read them for your own enjoyment, if you can get hold of them...

...No, he doesn't talk to dead people, thank goodness! But we always thought he was very normal, ordinarily bright little boy. Now, as well as the imaginary friend business, he's demonstrating an extraordinary aptitude for Maths...

More clues, please!

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 09/09/2009 10:10

ok treacle give us a clue as to century, please

moomin, will your little boy turn out to have aspbergers and be a savant?

cj ...i have no bells ringing at all..

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/09/2009 10:59

I think that might give it away, Polly!

...I know that I have to marry, but I just feel too young! And girls are boring, anyway...

More clues for everyone else, please, am stuck

Pogleswood · 09/09/2009 12:02

Are you aristocratic/royal Treacle?

More clues please!

AIBU to want nothing to do with my daughter in law?

pollywobbledoodle · 09/09/2009 13:06

treacle, i'm thinking of one of george "ghengis" Khan's children....

pollywobbledoodle · 09/09/2009 13:07

pogle it goes without saying that you are probably nbu

steamedtreaclesponge · 09/09/2009 15:29

...No, not royal, or Mongolian! Although we are certainly better off than most people, I would say. I'm feeling a bit better now that I've accidentally met my prospective bride - maybe this won't be so bad after all...

More clues please, everyone else!

Pogleswood · 09/09/2009 19:15

Thank you ,Polly - a lot of people do seem to think IABU,though. However in my position,I can please myself..

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/09/2009 22:22

Evening all!

Treacle, is your father in the wool trade?

No ideas on anyone else's, I'm afraid, so usual plea for clues.

...But perhaps 11 is a bit old to be having imaginary friends. And he's asking such bizarre questions...
