AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

Well,CJ at least you know you've been a good mother..! No fun at all?

...I realise that my impending marriage was a surprise...

CJCregg · 07/09/2009 01:58

Pogle, has your uncle been forced to exert himself on your father's behalf to preserve your good name? And has your sister's rich, rather nobby fancy man been involved too? He's not so bad after all, is he?! Good luck with your new husband

MoominMymbleandMy · 07/09/2009 08:11

Morning all! Pogle, I think you've made a pretty poor choice of DH too but you were never famed for your good sense.

Never mind, CJ, have permission to be as U as you please.

...The trouble is my employer could not be described as a zealous guardian. In fact, he made no bones about wanting to turn his wards over to me and not to be troubled with anything. So I doubt I'll be seeing him again soon...

OP posts:
stickylittlefingers · 07/09/2009 09:05

Moomin are you in France?

Pogleswood · 07/09/2009 09:32

Morning all!
Vague bells from yours,Moomin - but I think both you and CJ may have confused me with someone else! I particularly like the idea of my sister with a rather nobby fancy man...

...I wish we'd just got married and told them after the event,we only want a very small wedding...

(And I suppose I should know who you both think I am,but I don't,please enlighten me(or at least drop me a clue!)

CJCregg · 07/09/2009 09:45

Damn, Pogle! That'll teach me to get all pleased with myself. I thought you were Lydia Bennet ... need more clues on this one, now, to get that thought out of my head.

AIBU to make a phone call?

MoominMymbleandMy · 07/09/2009 10:04

Yep, I was sure you were Lydia too, Pogle, especially as I remember you plotting to do a series of AIBUs from the same novel but for different characters, and Pride and Prejudice would be perfect material.

So, second attempt, are you pioneering on the prairies?

CJ, depends on what you're saying and to whom, I'd say, which boils down to more details, please!

...I'm not in France but in the depths of the English countryside...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 07/09/2009 10:25

Aha! I think I could hardly be less like Lydia Bennett, apart of course from choosing a man my family aren't keen on.

...I know my sister has a lot on her mind at the moment, but to say "was I sure he really wanted to marry me.." ...

More clues please!

CJCregg · 07/09/2009 10:37

I am no further, Pogle, but am wondering if this surprise wedding is a bit of a shotgun one?

Pogleswood · 07/09/2009 10:55

No,nothing like that ,CJ - though my mother did ask.He is quite a bit older than me,and my family had no idea that I was involved with anyone.

Moomin, are both your charges at home with you?

MoominMymbleandMy · 07/09/2009 11:26

Hmm, so does your prospective DH have any offspring, Pogle?

...I'm just looking after the little girl at the moment, but her brother will be home from school soon...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 07/09/2009 11:46

Moomin, did you study at Oxford and end up leaving because you got pregnant?

...My friend is still very much around, and I doubt he'd look on me as a good match for his daughter! It's not that I have any shortage of women, mind you...

steamedtreaclesponge · 07/09/2009 11:46

And Pogle, are you marrying him so your sister doesn't have to?

Pogleswood · 07/09/2009 12:03

Well,I was up at Oxford when I met him,but no I'm not pregnant.I don't think any of my sisters would consider marrying him for a second.Yes,Moomin,he does -and they do need a home..

Hmm,I think your feelings for your employer may be the least of your worries,Moomin...I hear they are charming children - do you know why he is coming home from school?

MoominMymbleandMy · 07/09/2009 12:19

Hmm, Pogle, so would it be fair to describe them as a ready-made family then?

...They are very beautiful and charming children, and I cannot think how any school could possibly find grounds for asking the little boy to leave...

Treacle, do you share your name with a brand of cat food (one heartily despised by all my cats!)?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 07/09/2009 12:35

Yep,how right you are ,Moomin! I did enjoy both Karen Marlow as Lydia Bennett, and Rowan with a nobby fancy man...

Surely Treacle can't be called Whiskas??

And as for your own situation,I would run away,now..

CJCregg · 07/09/2009 12:48

How wrong I was!!

Need clues on yours, Moomin. Just a little clue-ette ... it's ringing very loud bells ...

I know I shouldn't be using the phone, but my sister got away with it, so ...

MoominMymbleandMy · 07/09/2009 12:56

Oh hooray! Actually, Lawrie hasn't any more sense than Lydia and I can really see Ginty ending up with a nobby fancy man.

You've rumbled me, Pogle, well done again, but I'll just ratchet up the tension, so to speak, for CJ!

...The atmosphere is rather disturbing. Perhaps I'm letting the fate of my predecessor and another servant prey on my mind...

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 07/09/2009 12:58

Oh, bless me, CJ, you're Ginty, and the sister who got away with it was Nicola! All roads lead to the Marlows on these threads!

And I think the Merricks are going to think you were B very U indeed.

OP posts:
CJCregg · 07/09/2009 12:59

No, sorry, Moomin, I can't get it, you'll have to tell me

CJCregg · 07/09/2009 13:00

Not to mention Mrs Lambert and Miss Keith.

Weird coincidences all round ... Well done Moomin!

steamedtreaclesponge · 07/09/2009 13:03

Ah, Moomin, of course, I know who you are now. Run for the hills while you still can!

And who are the Marlows?

...No, definitely not named after cat food! I'm more of a labrador kind of man. I think my girlfriend suspects something of my tendresse for my friend's daughter, which is worrying. She's a total bitch but very good in bed...

CJCregg · 07/09/2009 13:03

I'm fascinated by the Bennet/Marlow similarities now!

Jane = Karen (hmmm, not really)
Elizabeth = Rowan (yes, quite possibly)
Mary = Ann (uncanny)
Kitty = Ginty (not quite, but not bad)
Lydia = Lawrie

But whither Nicola?!! (And the brothers, although I don't bother with them much)

stickylittlefingers · 07/09/2009 13:04

oh - is it all going to get very spooky with you now Moomin?

CJCregg · 07/09/2009 13:17

Oh, ok, got it now!
