AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

OP posts:
stickylittlefingers · 05/09/2009 16:06

Can I do one?

AIBU that I'm so irritated that my husband doesn't support me in my horticultural activities?

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/09/2009 20:02

Of course, Sticky, it saves diehard timewasters like me from coming up with another so it's much appreciated.

Not that I'm feeling inspired on your one or CJ's yet!

...I never dreamed she would put the episode into a novel...

OP posts:
stickylittlefingers · 05/09/2009 20:48

Mmmm - sounds like a breach of confidence?

I feel I ought to know CJ's, but the mental filing cabinet's got stuck, I'm afraid... more clues? TRotS is a favourite of mine, so it was a nice starter for ten! I won't be so quick in the future, I think.

Well, the Man of Wrath is coming to visit soon, but I'm more interested in my seed catalogues...

pollywobbledoodle · 05/09/2009 21:25

cj yours is definitely tickling the back of my brain, argh!

sticky will the man of wrath be fighting batman anytime soon?......probably way off the mark as batman and seed catalogues rarely go together....

more clues moomin please

stickylittlefingers · 05/09/2009 22:01

Polly - lol - this man of wrath is more likely to have a batman than be fighting one! And I made such a mistake with the seed catalogue - order tonnes of the stuff and MoW is going to be so wrathful...

steamedtreaclesponge · 05/09/2009 22:07

Moomin, did the episode in question take place in Italy?

And Sticky, I guess you are mourning your salad days in Germany...

AIBU to fancy my friend's daughter?

stickylittlefingers · 05/09/2009 22:22

Steamedtreaclesponge (so cruel to have such a mouthwatering name!) - certainly am. Wanting another mad freezing picnic by the Baltic...

Sounds U on first reading. Do you know her well?

CJCregg · 05/09/2009 22:55

To be honest, I'm not doing much work in Paris. There's this gorgeous French girl who really has the hots for me, so I'm spending most of my time in bed with her. I know my best friend would approve, but my parents wouldn't - they're just boring, still living their dull existence on the fag end of the Metropolitan line ...

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/09/2009 23:02

Ah, it was a German garden then, Sticky!

So, more information on the friend's daughter, please, and on CJ's lad, which is ringing loud but unhelpful bells.

And yes, Sticky, we were visiting Florence at the time the unfortunate episode occurred!

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 05/09/2009 23:04

Sorry not Sticky, Treacle...but treacle is sticky so it's easy to conflate them!

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 06/09/2009 00:32

cj is life merde, actually?

pollywobbledoodle · 06/09/2009 00:33

ignore that...wrong decade!

steamedtreaclesponge · 06/09/2009 11:14

Completely stuck on yours, CJ!

... I suppose I shouldn't really do anything about it. After all, she is almost half my age...

Pogleswood · 06/09/2009 12:22

So,CJ,are you going to end up with a life rather more like your parents' life than you'd planned on?

CJCregg · 06/09/2009 14:20

'Course not, Pogle! As if I'd end up in the suburbs with a proper job, wife and baby ... oops.

Pogleswood · 06/09/2009 14:31

Yay!

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/09/2009 19:35

Evening, all.

So what was your one, CJ? It sounds very funny and a little bit sad.

Treacle, should you have a sense of guilt over the friend's daughter? Oh, and I take it you've knocked my one on the head so:

AIBU to fall in love with my employer?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 06/09/2009 22:22

Treacle,is your friend still around? or just the daughter?
Well, people do fall in love with their employers,Moomin - more clues?

AIBU to expect my sister to be more supportive?

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/09/2009 22:54

...I think perhaps I am BU because I've only met him twice but he is so handsome and charming...

More help on the sister, please, Pogle!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 06/09/2009 23:01

Evening, all. I have no idea on anybody's, clues needed please (although I'm assuming you're not Jane Eyre, moomin!)

Mine was Metroland by Julian Barnes - take a bow, Pogle.

Pogleswood · 06/09/2009 23:06

Bows to all!

Actually Moomin, you sound as if you're in a Jilly Cooper novel, but probably not!

...I could really say AIBU to expect my whole family to be more supportive...

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/09/2009 23:07

Ah, thanks, CJ. I haven't read that one because I didn't get on with Flaubert's Parrot.

And I'm not Jane Eyre but I am a governess!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 06/09/2009 23:15

Moomin, that's funny, because Flaubert's Parrot has always had nothing but the highest of praise for you ... arf arf. Would recommend Metroland, very different from F'sP, actually rather gentle and sweet, and very funny.

Are your pupils a family of singing prodigies?!

More clues, please!

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/09/2009 23:20

No, I'm not a singing nun and I only have two charges to educate.

Pogle! Still stumped!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 06/09/2009 23:39

Pogle, why are you in need of support?

Moomin, I'm trying to think of governesses ... no, need more clues.
