AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 21/08/2009 18:46

Yep, I am convinced you've had a narrow escape, Treacle.

OK, I shall abandon my DCs to cause mayhem in the park!

AIBU to air my knowledge of local history?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 21/08/2009 21:06

moomin in your previous aibu, you weren't one of the flood parents were you?

in your current one, you are if it means you are accused of stalking...

pollywobbledoodle · 21/08/2009 21:07

ignore second offering, i read it as local geography....durr!

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/08/2009 23:08

Evening, all!

In my previous one I was a magical person about to be called on to undo the havoc her DCs had wreaked!

As for my present one, I am offended, as the DD says! I don't stalk people, I'm a respectable parson...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 22/08/2009 00:00

Hi Moomin, no idea about your earlier one, but are you trying to make an advantageous marriage?

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/08/2009 00:16

CJ! Yay!

Your DD would like my first one, and you did say she didn't get enough books for her birthday.

...I'm not trying to make an advantageous marriage, merely amusing myself by observing how are the mighty fallen...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 22/08/2009 00:32

Sorry, I'm no further on either of them! (Was barking up totally the wrong tree)

AIBU to be fed up with minding the shop?

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/08/2009 00:40

Hmm, is it in Shropshire, CJ?

My first one was The Witch's Children by Ursula Jones and Russell Ayto, and it's a very funny, clever picture book.

...I didn't think my little titbit of genealogical history would excite him so much...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 22/08/2009 01:11

Oh, Moomin, you haven't been talking to Mr Durbeyfield, have you? Nowt good'll come of that ...

Not in Shropshire, no ... Though I am in the north of England. I'm just so fed up with having to do everything - the shopping, the cooking, bringing up the girls AND minding the shop ...

Night!

CJCregg · 22/08/2009 01:12

PS Will get the Witch's Children, thanks for that

steamedtreaclesponge · 22/08/2009 08:40

Morning!

Are you in York, CJ?

...AIBU to not tell anyone I have a son?

CJCregg · 22/08/2009 08:52

I am indeed, treacle, well done!

Need more clues on yours, though - is your son a child, or grown up?

AIBU to think my mistress is a bit mad?

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/08/2009 18:41

Evening, all!

Sorry to leave you in suspense, CJ, but you were absolutely right yet again, I was passing the time with John Durbeyfield, and I think I should have kept his illustrious ancestry to myself.

I've no idea who you were in York despite Treacle cracking it, and I've no idea who either of you are at the moment!

Clues, please!

AIBU to think our new house is haunted?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 23/08/2009 23:12

Hello all,glad you're still here! (Wish I wasn't though - much prefered hols to imminent work/school )
And if only I'd spent my time reading loads of new books, instead of eating icecream and watching DCs digging huge holes in the sand I would be finding thinking of AIBUs easier!

...My husband will NOT do something I feel strongly he should do - WIBU to try a little low level trickery?...

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/08/2009 07:01

Good to have you back, Pogle, and sounds like you had a lovely time.

I am clueless on everyone's!

...I keep thinking I can hear someone calling my niece. And doors open and close by themselves...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 24/08/2009 10:40

Morning all!

...Well, I had to leave him when he was still quite small, but he must be almost grown up by now...

CJ, what's your mistress been up to?

Pogle and Moomin, more clues please!

CJCregg · 24/08/2009 13:29

Morning all! Moomin, I was being Bunty, the mother in Behind the Scenes at the Museum.

And guess what? I can't remember what my last AIBU is ... my brain is completely scrambled, and I've been so obtuse I haven't left myself any clues. So any guesses welcome!!

steamedtreaclesponge · 24/08/2009 14:28

I'm trying to think of books with mistresses in them! Hmm... are you in the 17th century? Or in the film industry?

Pogleswood · 24/08/2009 19:21

Ho,ho CJ - that adds a whole new dimension to the thread! Do you remember anything at all about it?

So does your niece live with you,Moomin?
More clues,Treacle?

...He is being driven to distraction by other members of our household, but he won't do anything about them...

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/08/2009 19:43

CJ, oh, that is funny! I have forgotten mine sometimes but so far, fingers crossed, the clue I left has always jogged my memory.

And I'm feeling spectacularly witless about everyone's at the moment, so I don't think I'll be much use identifying the lost AIBU.

Were you cunningly doing Tess from Alec's perspective? I'm sure he wouldn't have been a bit U to think her mad when she went after him with a knife.

...My niece is staying with us for Christmas and if she seems happy with us then we'd like her to become part of the family. But she doesn't seem to be settling down at all...

More clues, please Pogle, Treacle and, er, CJ!

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 24/08/2009 21:37

tee hee cj....glad somebody else does things like that!

no idea about any....more clues please

CJCregg · 24/08/2009 22:59

Evening all! Glad to have caused so much amusement - I've been feeling so idiotic ... but happily I have now remembered it, so can continue to drop obscure hints.

My mistress (remember her?) has been a bit peculiar lately. She keeps telling me nonsensical stories, and all I really want to do is sit quietly by the fire.

No idea on anyone else's, clues please!

Poledra · 24/08/2009 23:04

Evening all! Back from hols all refreshed (well, a bit knackered but at least the DCs are lurgy-free).

CJ, are you an animal?

MoominMymbleandMy · 25/08/2009 00:31

I'll whisper "congratulations", Poledra, just in case something nasty's lurking.

CJ, are you feline? Not that that helps really because they all want to sit by the fire and think humans are daft.

And what on earth have you been up to lately to wipe your own AIBU from your memory!

Still stumped on everyone's so I'll plod on with my own.

...It's only since she came to stay that I've thought the house is haunted. But I'm sure she's not playing any tricks because she's such a quiet, old-fashioned child...

Night all!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 25/08/2009 09:29

Hmm,still baffled by all of these....

...he is a lovely man,and really very humble, for someone in his position - now I can hear him in the garden talking to someone...
