AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

steamedtreaclesponge · 14/08/2009 14:26

Oh dear, still no idea, am hoping I just haven't read yours and that I'm not being thick!

...no, it wasn't a joke. I wish I could have stayed there but I knew I had to come back to this life, I couldn't leave my father...

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/08/2009 14:37

Oooh, you're not Dickie Harding alias Richard Arden, are you, Treacle?

...There was no record of his existence because he'd now never existed. Except I knew he had because I remembered him and I had the DS for proof...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 14/08/2009 15:19

Yes! I do love Harding's Luck.

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/08/2009 15:23

My favourite E Nesbit, Treacle!

...So with all that happening perhaps I shouldn't be surprised he will only speak Lorem Ipsum...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 14/08/2009 15:29

I give up! Sounds intriguing though...

...AIBU to think that my father favours my brother over me?

pollywobbledoodle · 14/08/2009 20:08

i'm not sure if i have a skipping rope treacle! I do have an ever increasing number of worry dolls under my pillow, i have made the first lot so anxious that i have had to get them all their own worry dolls....

pollywobbledoodle · 14/08/2009 20:14

moomin, it rings no bells but are you a character in a jasper fforde novel?

treacle is he allowed the education whilst you are not?

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/08/2009 23:31

Evening all, well, sort of evening!

Polly, I was definitely on the wrong track and now I'm more stumped than ever. You, however, are very much on the right track because I am a Jasper Fforde character!

Treacle, is your brother younger than you and are you both motherless?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 15/08/2009 09:46

...We don't have a mother, no, but we did have an education! He's older than me and he's the golden boy who can do no wrong...

pollywobbledoodle · 15/08/2009 11:31

so moomin, are you thursday?

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/08/2009 00:00

Right yet again, Polly!

No ideas on either your one or Treacle's, I'm afraid.

More clues, please!

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 16/08/2009 00:57

ok moomin i guessed thursday but which of his books is it?

will have to get my book from dds bedroom tomorrow...can't think of much else to say about it

pollywobbledoodle · 16/08/2009 00:59

treacle is your brother going to go off to war?

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/08/2009 02:40

Ah, the wonders of Google! So you're being rather silly then, Polly!

And my one was Something Rotten. If you haven't read them I am sure you would love them. They are funny, fast-paced and so extraordinarily imaginative. The Eyre Affair is the first one to read.

AIBU to think my sister will make herself ill if she carries on like this?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 16/08/2009 23:32

yes moomin as dennis healey would have said i am a bit of a sil-ly bil-ly...glad you got it, i was struggling for another clue!

i've read 2 jasper ffordes but not that one....i think i'll have to wait a year or so

is your sister suffering from unrequited lurve?

CJCregg · 17/08/2009 10:01

Morning, all! Had DDs birthday over the weekend so have been far too consumed with RL ...

Polly, what was yours?

steamedtreaclesponge · 17/08/2009 10:16

...Well, we're pretty much permanently at war in this city, but I'm sure my father thinks that I'm a bit of a sissy...

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/08/2009 11:53

Morning all!

Hope the DD had a good birthday and had lots of books in her presents, CJ .

Treacle, sorry, I am being fearfully thick over your one. Are you a girl?

Polly, yes, my sister is suffering from unrequited love. So am I, but I'm more one to suffer in silence than tear my hair and howl at the moon!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/08/2009 12:00

Moomin, is your sister a bit lacking in Sense?

...No, I'm very much a man! I just wish there was some way I could prove myself to my father - now my brother's gone missing he gets in these black moods, it's very disturbing...

CJCregg · 17/08/2009 13:03

I love Elinor Dashwood (if indeed you are she, Moomin). I wish I could have had just an ounce of her nobility and restraint.

Treacle, are you in Troy? Quite baffled.

DD didn't get nearly enough books, Moomin. We have discovered Katie Morag, though, which seems to be a good thing.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/08/2009 14:01

Treacle, CJ, yes indeedy, I am Elinor Dashwood. I remember first reading this as a teenager and thinking Elinor was a cold fish and feeling sorry for Marianne. These days I marvel that Elinor didn't pour a bucket of water over her!

Katie-Morag was a great hit here, CJ, and what fun you're going to have getting books now your DD is old enough for so many lovely ones. Mine adored Madeline, and Eloise, and James Mayhew's Katie series.

I am just baffled over your one, Treacle, so the usual plea for more clues.

AIBU to think the master's parenting skills are rather lacking?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/08/2009 14:12

...Well, my brother went off on some hush-hush mission with a rather strangely assorted group of people and hasn't been seen since! In the meantime, I'm left fighting the hordes while my father sits in his room brooding over a piece of rock...

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/08/2009 14:25

Oh, oh, oh, you have to be Faramir!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/08/2009 14:48

Yes! I am the lovely Faramir

Not like that bloody Boromir with his massive horn...

More clues for yours please Moomin!

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/08/2009 15:11

Boromir was most definitely not a new man . Faramir, however, I'm sure wouldn't have jibbed at changing a nappy.

...Good fathers don't wish their children had never been born. So that rang alarm bells...
