AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

Hi, Polly, oh, wicked woman, I don't need another excuse to waste time!

Mine was Rebecca's World by Terry Nation, the man who created the Daleks. I've just discovered it's out of print and expensive, which prompted a rapid warning to the DD to be very careful with the already fragile paperback I passed on to her!

...I don't think we are BU. After our mother died our aunt wanted to adopt my brother but she didn't want me because I'm not little and cute...

Polly, that website is outrageous. They might as well go the whole hog and have Colin Firth in his wet shirt!

Moomin, as ever, I have a hunch I know yours but need more clues, please.

Night, all.

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/08/2009 02:16

Oh no, CJ, he might catch cold. Mind you, it would serve him right for doing such a very unDarcy-like thing as to fall in a lake.

...So we decided to run away to Venice. Our mother used to tell us lovely stories about Venice...

There you are, CJ, that's your promised Italian-themed AIBU!

pollywobbledoodle · 12/08/2009 20:59

moomin, i got in a fluster and forgot to ask if you were Prosper.

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/08/2009 21:08

It must been the vision of Daniel Craig coming out of the sea that made you forget, Polly .

But, yes, you are bang on the nose yet again. I am Prosper!

AIBU to remain celibate all my life because of something that happened when I was a child?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 12/08/2009 21:15

i'm strutting, i'm strutting....

were you abused moomin?

aibu to put my new dolls under my pillow?

Poledra · 12/08/2009 21:40

I don;t believe it - anothe lurgy! But no ordinary lurgy, oh no, DD3 has a Superinfection . Never mind, Calpol and antibiotics will soon have it licked.

Spending all day in paediatric A&E has not improved my mental agility though. Moomin, did you see something you shouldn't have?

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/08/2009 21:57

Oh, Pol, you have heartfelt sympathies and even whisper hugs. Hopefully, this means your DCs will all grow up with fantastic immune systems.

And, yes, indeed, I did see something I shouldn't have. It made me very ill...

Polly, no ideas unless they're Guatemalan trouble dolls, actually still no ideas even then, but I know you're supposed to put them under your pillow!

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 12/08/2009 22:16

gosh pol your family have had the grottiest luck of late. hope all's well quickly

indeed moomin they are trouble dolls. my gran gave them to me because i was so anxious about...well everything...

moomin are you down on the farm?

Poledra · 12/08/2009 22:37

Moomin, do you live with your best friend from childhood?

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/08/2009 23:42

I'm sure I've heard or read a review of a book with Trouble dolls but I can't think what it is or who the author could be. Drat!

...I've never lived on a farm and I live alone. But I was visiting a schoolfriend when it happened...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 13/08/2009 09:40

No idea on any of this - just popping in to say Hi,and offer sympathies to Pol - hope DD3 makes a speedy recovery, poor thing.Things can only get better...

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/08/2009 10:21

Morning all!

Still uninspired on your one, Polly.

...It happened on my 13th birthday. I had a breakdown and I don't remember anything that happened immediately afterwards...

OP posts:
Poledra · 13/08/2009 11:13

OK, I'm barking up the wrong tree with yours, Moomin - bah! More clues please!

Thanks for all the kind wishes, DD3 is fine as long as we keep her temp down - little fraud!

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/08/2009 11:20

Poor Pol and poor DD3, good to hear you're managing to keep the temperature down.

...It wouldn't seem very much now, I'm sure, but in 1900 children weren't supposed to know anything about sex. And the aftermath was so tragic...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 13/08/2009 13:37

Moomin, were you acting as a go-between ,by any chance? A difficult situation for a boy to be in..
Must go - we are finally going on holiday (Hooray, hooray!) and I should be packing...
Don't think I will have internet access in sunny Dorset,so hopefully will be back on the thread next week! (if you're all still here...)

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/08/2009 14:29

Well done yet again, Pogle! It was The Go Between. Have a lovely holiday with lots of sunshine and time to read.

AIBU to worry about my DS's speech development?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 13/08/2009 20:24

moomin , why, has he started swearing?

my real name is william and everyone thinks i'm daft, worrying about everything from clouds to birds...

pollywobbledoodle · 13/08/2009 20:25

enjoy your hols pogle...am green, i love dorset

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/08/2009 23:52

I've no idea at all, Polly, but it does sound interesting. Try another clue!

...The problem is that my DS will only speak the language of his birthplace. I know he understands me but he won't attempt to speak English. And no one understands him here so for all they know he could be swearing at them...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 14/08/2009 11:07

Morning all!

Polly, do you own a skipping rope?

No ideas for yours Moomin, more clues please!

AIBU to refuse to beg any longer?

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/08/2009 11:37

Morning all!

Hmm, Treacle, might you be misplaced royalty?

More clues, Polly .

...He's only two so perhaps I am BU. But I was in a very stressful and arduous job when he was a baby. Not to mention the problem of his father having disappeared...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 14/08/2009 12:11

Still stuck on yours, Moomin!

No, not misplaced royalty...but now I know how the aristocracy live, I don't think I can go back to my old life...

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/08/2009 14:23

So did the aristocracy kidnap you for a practical joke, Treacle?

...When I say his father disappeared, I mean really disappeared because there was no record of his existence...
