AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

Pretty Ponies, I think you are being a bit U but not nearly as U as your creator if it's true that she tied her charges to a table leg to write in peace! The Brontes weren't really cut out for the governess business.

Polly, I live in the country, not Oxford, but yes, I am destined for weird and wonderful adventures!

Pol, I know exactly what you mean about anything being better than revising for Finals. Anything's more attractive than revision notes!

Merrylegs · 09/08/2009 21:25

OK - well, it depends how old you are. If you were, say, 19, I would put it down to youthful ignorance.

prettyponies · 09/08/2009 21:33

yes merrylegs, I am 19 (I think), well done moomin, 'twas Agnes Grey...I've always loved that bit, she seems so indignant that anyone could possibly mind their kids grinding eggshells into the carpet.

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 21:38

I think Anne Bronte was a bit perplexed anyone could object to having their little darlings tied to a table leg .

Polly, any chance of another clue, please?

...So I looked through the telescope at a star, and there was a funny whirling, and I found myself in a strange room with a very cross little man. He says I've ruined his experiment...

morning all!
my stepmother is quite murderous towards me ....i have had to go into hiding with a group of men who kindly took me in...i work as their housekeeper now...

pollywobbledoodle · 10/08/2009 10:55

moomin, i really have no idea!

Poledra · 10/08/2009 11:12

Polly, is your murderous stepmother in the habit of talking to mirrors??

EverySingleStar · 10/08/2009 11:28

Ooooh I've missed loads I shall have to think of another one quickly. Damn BT...

MoominMymbleandMy · 10/08/2009 12:22

Afternoon all!

I'm thinking poisoned apples too for your one, Polly.

Hi, Star, are you carrying on with your old one? It baffled me completely but what's new about that!

...I'm in another world and I don't know how I'm going to get home. It's very foggy but I've met a kind man who claims he has the most painful feet in the universe...

OP posts:
EverySingleStar · 10/08/2009 13:09

I shall reveal the old one...it was Lord of the Rings. Was trying to be super-obscure as you clever sods get them so quickly.

...I love L.A...I hate L.A...I love L.A...I hate L.A...can you tell I'm British?...

MoominMymbleandMy · 10/08/2009 13:23

Well, that sailed right over my head, Star!

More clues to your indecisive ex-pat, please?

...A siren's sounded. My friend says we have to get to shelter. They've slammed the doors in my face! And I can hear a slithering noise getting nearer...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 10/08/2009 13:29

got me pol and moomin!

pollywobbledoodle · 10/08/2009 13:32

star, are you irish and in la la land to try get an acting part

EverySingleStar · 10/08/2009 17:08

Polly certainly not! These actor types - they're far too stuffy for me...although I secretly adore them...

pollywobbledoodle · 10/08/2009 20:44

same author, different book....are you maggie, gone to hollywood after the breakdown of your marriage?

EverySingleStar · 10/08/2009 21:51

Nope - I'm not of the female variety - mind you this doesn't help my luck with them at all...perhaps I'm just wallowing in self-pity...oh wait...

CJCregg · 10/08/2009 23:53

Evening everyone, just popping in to say hello and sorry I haven't been around - RL taking over again, but in a good way this time!

Moomin - so long ago you've probably forgotten but yes, I was Hilary Swallow, long-suffering wife of rather seedy Philip.

I can't get any of the others!

AIBU to want a midnight feast?

MoominMymbleandMy · 11/08/2009 01:01

Hi CJ, I hope you're not planning on sardines pressed in gingerbread - no wonder they were always ill the next day!

Star, I have absolutely no idea at all!

...They're GHOSTS, my friend says. Luckily, a rather odd but very welcome superhero arrived to save me in the nick of time...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 11/08/2009 10:17

No, I just fancy a snack after my long walk in the snow ...

Moomin, I have no idea what yours is but once it's been guessed I am going straight out to buy it.

MoominMymbleandMy · 11/08/2009 12:34

Afternoon all!

CJ, you should have listened to your daddy. You know perfectly well that no Gruffalo should ever set foot in the deep dark wood!

...The GHOSTS are terrifying! I suppose I should be glad I'm a character in a children's book and not in the famous TV series for which my author created the most famous baddies of all...

CJCregg · 11/08/2009 15:39

Moomin, you ARE the cleverest person on the planet!

And - thanks for the clues - are you Rebecca?

MoominMymbleandMy · 11/08/2009 16:49

Aww, CJ, if I was I would know how to print that out and preserve it as the nicest accolade I've ever had. I'd also have known not to use "famous" twice in the same sentence!

Anyway, yes indeed, I am Rebecca and I was created by the same clever man who thought up the Daleks. It's a great story, a sort of modern "Wizard of Oz" - in so far as anything first published in 1975 can be considered modern now.

And now AWBU to run away from our aunt?

pollywobbledoodle · 11/08/2009 21:51
