AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

Pogleswood · 08/08/2009 23:50

Oh,and more clues please,Moomin - though I'm sure I've never read a book involving turtles,and the ark - I'd remember!

Merrylegs · 09/08/2009 00:01

ooh ooh Poledra - if your story was made into a film, would one of your vampires be married in real true life to a tatooed lady with many children? And would another vampire perhaps have been portrayed by a short man who dances on sofas?

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 00:04

Swedish vampires?!

...It was all a very long time ago but the clever doctor seemed so interested in the Great Flood that I was delighted to tell him...

OP posts:
Poledra · 09/08/2009 00:05

Yes, Merrylegs, you got it!

(Thank god, as I had no idea where I was going to go from there )

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 00:06

Pol, don't disappear without telling us what it is!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/08/2009 00:13

Yes,what is it,pretty please?

Moomin,is your clever doctor able to talk to the animals?

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 00:31

Why yes he is, Pogle! Marvellous man. And he's done wonders for my arthritis.

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/08/2009 00:33

Still don't know who you are though! Ah well, never mind..
must go and get some sleep - night all!

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 00:37

I bet you do know, Pogle. There aren't many doctors who can talk to animals in their own language. In fact, only one that I've heard of!

Night Pogle!

OP posts:
Poledra · 09/08/2009 09:06

Ooops, sorry, went to bed without seeing Moomin's post . I'm Claudia, the child vampire from Interview With the Vampire. My guardian is Louis and the one we thought we killed was Lestat.

Moomin, the only doctor I know who can talk to the animals is Dr. Dolittle

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 10:32

Ah, thanks for that, Pol, and apologies, Pogle, reading spooky stories obviously addled my brain last night because I didn't register that you were wondering about the identity of his patient rather than Dr Doolittle himself.

Sorry! And I was being Mudface, the giant turtle from Doctor Doolittle and the Secret Lake.

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/08/2009 10:51

No need for apologies,Moomin! (I was thinking of a post - and I was thinking it sounded a bit petty - "but I did know it was Dr Dolittle..",in slightly whiney tone of voice!) It was DSis who loved Dr Dolittle,- I've read some but obviously not enough to recognise this!

And I have heard of the Vampire Lestat -Pol,how horrific are the books? I never used to be able to read horror/vampire stuff at all,but have recently got addicted to urban fantasy - Wondered if Ann Rice would be 'too much'' though?

And also apologies for my lack of contributions to the AIBU setting - very uninspired at the moment....

pollywobbledoodle · 09/08/2009 12:13

never read either...are they worth a read?

AIBU to prefer men to women?

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 12:20

I've heard of Anne Rice and Interview with the Vampire but never read any of her stuff, so I'd be interested to know too, please, Pol.

AIBU to play with my father's telescope?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 09/08/2009 12:22

oo-er moomin, has it turned into THAT kind of thread?

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 12:27

Umm, Polly, what kind of thread?!

That's quite a wide field you're opening up there, so are you unkind to animals, for my first contender?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 09/08/2009 12:31

sorry moomin, i've just been on the smutty let me tell you a story thread!

i have never been unkind to anyone as far as i know....i love small creatures...

are you a young english girl?

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 12:46

Ah, all is explained, apart from your AIBU!

Is your preference for men romantic, then?

... I am a young English girl and it's the eleventh day of the school holidays and I'm bored...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 09/08/2009 15:03

moomin, is your daddy a famous astronomer?

i've always preferred men romantically and at the moment i would rather live with a group of men than with my father and stepmother...

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/08/2009 15:19

I'm not sure but I don't think so, Polly. He doesn't really come into the story. But he does have a brand new astral telescope and I have been told on no account to touch it. So I'm going to...

So, are you male or female?

OP posts:
Poledra · 09/08/2009 19:09

I don't particularly like horror - I've read a lot of Stephen King and Dean R Koontz (flatmate at uni had loads of them and hey, you read what you can get your hands on, especially when you shuld be studying for finals, right? )and they didn't float my boat.

Anne Rice, on the other hand, is not the same thing at all, IMO. As is often the case with these sort of things, the first book of the series (Interview) is without doubt the best. A lot of the story is about Louis' internal conflict that he is a vampire but he is ashamed of killing to live. (Louis is the main character - I chose to 'be' Claudia coz I thought it would be less obvious ). I would definitely recommend giving it a whirl, but to be more circumspect about the later books.

No idea on anyone else's AIBUs - more clues please!

pollywobbledoodle · 09/08/2009 20:39

i'm a girl, well i was but now i'm a beautiful woman .....thats when my troubles started

moomin, do you live in oxford, are you destined for great adventures?

pol, thanks for that, i might give it a go

prettyponies · 09/08/2009 20:40

I am paid to educate and look after two children in their own home. I find the children rather a strain, so, yesterday, in order to have some time to myself to write some letters, I let them mash some eggshells into the carpet. This kept them quiet so I could have a little 'Me' time.

When the children's father came upon them 'grinding eggshells', he seemed angry, and appeared to think this was not an acceptable activity for them! I think I am entitled to write letters during the day, and the carpet was, in any case, only a plain, brown, drugget. AIBU?

Merrylegs · 09/08/2009 21:12

prettyponies, I sense this is a Christian house and for that YAB monstrously U.

prettyponies · 09/08/2009 21:21

Nooo, I don't think they are, particularly...I should know, my father was a (poor) vicar ... the little boy of the family is encouraged to torture baby birds, he didn'y like it when I killed a nest full of fledglings quickly to stop him tormenting them...
