AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

Feel free to mentally correct my spelling

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2009 01:31

Well, Llandb, what do you expect! Mucking about on ladders when you're an octogenarian rather reduces your chances of making a century!

Have a lovely time.

Night all!

Hurrah!!

AIBU to think that my guardian should not be so reluctant to travel? We've been in the same place for years, and I'm longing to see Europe.

llandb · 05/08/2009 11:24

Hmm, I suppose I was B a bit U then... still, I managed quite a long Life considering this Time of Cholera!

Quite fancy some clues, but won't be around to benefit from them.

Toodle-pip, All, and don't feel you need to be reasonable (it would be hypocritical of me to ask it )

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2009 17:56

Another clue please, Pol

...After my mother died I just wanted to get away. And I remembered my aunt as a kind, cheerful person. You wouldn't recognise her now...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 05/08/2009 18:28

Hello everyone, I'm back! And have missed you all sadly ...

There is an enormous amount to catch up on, so I won't welly in yet otherwise I'll make a fool of myself. Just wanted to say halllloooooo!

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2009 19:21

Hi CJ, lovely to have you back and hope you had a great holiday! Haven't we been busy?

...But now she looks like a ghost. And my uncle seems rather sinister...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 05/08/2009 21:20

also just nodding my head in for a bit....back from wales with windburn and trenchfoot...hey-ho!

Poledra · 05/08/2009 21:25

Hi CJ! Polly, was Wales really that bad? We're heading that way on 15th, to a cottage chosen for its proximity to the beach.....

....I'm so much more grown-up than you might think, and he refuses to see me as anything but a little girl.....

pollywobbledoodle · 05/08/2009 21:29

an inland hillside caravan was maybe a poor choice for this year.....twas better by the coast!

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2009 22:25

Hi Polly, what a shame the weather was so rubbish for you, but it's lovely to have you back again.

Poledra, this is one of those annoying AIBUs which seem familiar but refuse to be pinned down. So more help, pretty please.

...My uncle's a bully and I'm sure he's hiding something...

OP posts:
Poledra · 05/08/2009 22:46

No ideas on yours, Moomin - uncles instead of aunts for a change though!

....well, I persuaded him to take me to Europe but it's not like I thought it would be. Where are the others like us?........

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/08/2009 23:04

Hmm...

Yes, but there is still an auntie, Pol, and you're good at aunties! Are you all lurgy-free now, btw?

...And I'm not sure how he's making any money. The place is dirty and shabby, and we never seem to have any customers...

OP posts:
Poledra · 05/08/2009 23:57

We're mostly lurgy-free, thanks Moomin. The baby's still got a snotty nose and a bit of a cough, but everyone else seems on the mend (fingers crossed, touch wood, any other superstition you can think of!).

Not even a glimmer of recognition on yours.

....well, we found them but they're not what I hoped for. How could they be so, so, cheap and tawdry? My guardian is taken in by them.....or at least, by him.....

CJCregg · 06/08/2009 00:01

Evening, everyone! Have finally caught up - you have been busy ... V cross with Moomin for doing more Tales of the City when I wasn't around. The only other ones I might have got were Katy and Fanny Price. The rest's a mystery! Feel extremely thick, as usual ...

And - belatedly - yes, my now very ancient AIBU was Poppy Carew.

So - ever so tentatively - AIBU to have an affair while my DH is away?

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/08/2009 00:50

Ah but, CJ, you note I didn't give up and identify Further Tales of the City when it seemed it was a beekeeper! I was leaving it for your return, only clever Pol spotted it between outbreaks of lurgy.

I think it would probably B more U to have the affair while the DH was around but given that you haven't been that daft is it possible that the DH is having an affair with the same person?

Pol, good to hear everyone is now more or less healthy, but I am absolutely bloomin' baffled on your one. Are you a critter?

...I was wrong. We do have customers occasionally, but, my goodness, what customers - they have to be the dregs of the county. I never met such vile people...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 06/08/2009 21:34

Eek - have I killed the thread, just by coming back?

Moomin, my DH isn't having an affair with the same person, but I am pretty sure he's not behaving ... he's gone away for his job, and has become rather distant. Meanwhile, the new chap who's turned up to replace him is rather good fun!

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/08/2009 22:16

Evening all! No, CJ, reports of the thread's demise are much exaggerated. And you've knocked two contenders on the head with no replacements springing to mind, so any chance of another clue, please?

...I wonder if he's mixed up in smuggling? He does seem to know some very shady people. Still, smuggling isn't too bad...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 06/08/2009 22:27

moomin, is there poisoning going on in a shop of bizzare, antiques ?

no idea where to start on the others!

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/08/2009 22:35

...It's a hostelry rather than a shop, and I think poisoning is probably too subtle for my uncle although I suspect he wouldn't have any moral scruples about murder...

And I'm with you on the others, Polly! No clue at all!

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 06/08/2009 22:51

ah moomin, a clickety click moment!
are you mary, gone to stay with aunt patience on the cornish coast...

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/08/2009 22:57

...at Jamaica Inn. Yes, well done, Polly! If only you hadn't knocked down all your chandeliers already .

AIBU to be offended at being described as "unclean"?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 06/08/2009 23:03

Grrr ... chose the wrong moment for a long phone call - Jamaica Inn, she cried, too late again!!

So I think my DH is definitely having an affair. And, it seems, with a much younger girl. It's most unfair - I'm stuck at home with the children, while he goes swanning off to America ...

CJCregg · 06/08/2009 23:05

PS Moomin, I think I know yours but can't pinpoint it. Are you a William Brown type scruffy schoolboy?

(By the way, am wallowing in The Cricket Term, dug out of the attic ... )
