AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 02/08/2009 18:02

We aim to please! It is still widely available, and I must get myself a copy - I only realised when I started the AIBU that DSis has got our ancestral copy in America!
Another favorite,so yes,I'd say read it! And it isn't dated in the way some of his other books are.

llandb · 02/08/2009 18:38

Let's see if I can do a clever linkie...

International Talk Like a Pirate Day

I know two people, yes, two!, who have the good fortune to have TLAPD fall on their birthday.

And yet they don't appreciate it! It's all "oh people just want to say 'arrr' all day; it's a drag". I would love to have such a cool day as my birthday, d'ye hear?

And so, a heads-up - on 19 September I shall be bombardin' ye to the broadside with good ol' RSL et al.

Pogleswood · 02/08/2009 18:40

OK,llandb - looking forward to 19th September!!

llandb · 03/08/2009 10:27

Arrr!

Meanwhile I'm as stumped as a pirate's leg and yet again request more clues.

I don't think I've read any of yours! But it's all material to add to the tottering pile

And, AIBU to suggest taking a nap?

steamedtreaclesponge · 03/08/2009 11:22

Eek - this thread certainly moves fast at the weekends! Am a bit lost with all these AIBUs going on, need to do some hard thinking

... I persuaded my friends to move here for a new life, but things seem to be going a bit wrong...

llandb · 03/08/2009 19:07

Clueless here! Or rather, there have been plenty of clues but, I'm sorry, I haven't a clue.

... oh, and I'm feline....

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/08/2009 19:22

Llandb, I thought you might be a cat (again!) but had the computer callously swiped from me.

In which case, definitely YANBU, and are you an orange tabby kitten with two rather more active siblings?

Treacle, still no ideas, I'm afraid. Another clue, please?

...My apprenticeship's over so I don't have to eat anything peculiar any more. Now, I'm a journeyman so I'm not allowed to do certain things. It's a bit awkward going to a party and not being able to eat cake, sing Happy Birthday or play Pin the Tail on the Donkey...

OP posts:
llandb · 03/08/2009 19:56

Moomin, I am sure you're kind to toads!

It's reassuring to know that I am not BU but, lovely though orange tabbies are, I'm black-and-grey (I think) - it's a bit hard to be sure about colours when I'm represented by hand-painted collage. Oh, and that other person is too busy to take a nap right now...

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/08/2009 20:17

Spot on, Llandb, I wouldn't have dreamed of putting poor Hilary Ezra in the cauldron!

OK, wrong puddy tat, so has someone been doing some snatchwork on your patchwork?

OP posts:
llandb · 03/08/2009 21:33

Nothing like cheating on Google - I confess I'm not sure whether I've actually read yours, though, Moomin.

Not unless there's something going on in the illustrating world that I don't know of (actually there almost certainly is, but, y'know what I mean!)

... actually, I'm black with a blue tummy and blueish ears and other blueish blotches. And green eyes and a pink nose.

It's a bit surprising that I only wanted to take a nap with her and not eat her, but generally it's not done to go eating the eponymous character...

llandb · 03/08/2009 21:35

And Treacle, any chance of some more clues, pretty please with syrup on top?

steamedtreaclesponge · 04/08/2009 11:07

...we've just heard some terrible news about our families that we left behind, which has knocked us all for six. If only there were some ladies around who could comfort us (and give us lots of children)...

Pogleswood · 04/08/2009 14:00

well that's completely derailed my train of thought, not what I was thinking at all!
Are you human,Treacle?

steamedtreaclesponge · 04/08/2009 14:05

Human? I should hope not, indeed!

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/08/2009 14:26

Aha! I think a dangerous expedition to rescue some ladies with the help of your new friend the gull might be on the cards, Treacle.

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 04/08/2009 14:30

Llandb, any chance of another clue to the strangely behaved moggy, please?

AIBU to marry a former patient?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 04/08/2009 16:29

You've guessed it, Moomin! Shame there weren't enough hutch bunnies to go round....

Still stuck on the cat one, I'm afraid.

Former patient eh? All I can think of now is some lurid Mills & Boon novel from the 60s with a title like "Dr Romance's Passionate Bride". I'm guessing that I'm on completely the wrong track, though.

llandb · 04/08/2009 17:29

Hello! Back from dodging sunshine (took umbrella and warm clothing - mistake!)

Ooh treacle, that was enough for me to google (saved having to ask what yours was )

Well, Moomin, is it "Dr Romance's Passionate Bride"? - and if not, does this happen to be the very thing I was contemplating for my next AIBU - are you to meet a sticky end rescuing a parrot?

... most people want to do something active; so far I'm the only one who has suggested taking a nap. But she does take a nap - after she's caught her fly!

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/08/2009 18:43

It was a shame, Treacle, but I did notice the hutch bunny you left behind was a buck!

Llandb, I think you have to be the cat who tried to chat to a workaholic (and impolite) member of the species you're not very fond of!

...She wasn't my former patient but one of my friend's. I met her when I visited him at his clinic during the war...

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 04/08/2009 18:45

Oh and sorry, there is romance, passion and even a sticky ending for one character but no parrot, sadly!

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 04/08/2009 20:19

So,back to the old cry of "More clues, please!"
llandb, are we going to get the AIBU with the parrot??

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/08/2009 20:40

I thought the parrot was getting saved for TLAP Day!

...She was impressed by my uniform and started writing to me. They were very disturbed letters at first but she seems quite normal now...

OP posts:
llandb · 04/08/2009 21:18

Mrow! Yep, that Very Busy Spider had no manners, but at least she didn't take the dog up on the offer to chase me.

Hmmm.... OK, WIBU to try to rescue my wife's parrot from a tree? Incidentally, she's my former patient! And there are boats of various kinds but I don't recally any piracy.

Although it's a bit naughty of me to post this as I'm flitting away to a no-internet-connection-for-a-few-days zone

Need more clues but I guess someone else is going to get these

Am beign distracted here and not sure I'll be back before having no internet... so a tentative goodnight, and be reasonable!

Poledra · 04/08/2009 21:34

Moomin, are you Dick Diver?? Please please let me be right for once!

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/08/2009 22:29

Oh very well done indeed, Poledra! That was really fast. And I hadn't done anything on the fabulous wealth or the child abuse yet.

And thank you for relieving me of a tricky AIBU - I'm relying on my memories of doing this one for A Level and that was, ahem, rather a long time ago!

Have a good time, Llandb, and another clue on the parrot would be appreciated if you manage to make it back to the computer before setting off.

AIBU to think moving in with my aunt and uncle was a mistake?
