AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

. . . You can't say I'm racist, I have a very ragtag group of 'friends', but you couldn't say the same for some of them . . .

steamedtreaclesponge · 01/08/2009 11:55

Gosh I've really missed a lot here! No computer at home at the moment so can only come on when in the office...

...we've just moved here and would really like to make some friends, but are having a lot of trouble...

Pogleswood · 01/08/2009 14:53

well... nope, still stuck on all of these!

Are you in the south(as in south of the USA)
Star?
And unfriendly locals are a bit like PITA sisters, and eccentric Aunts, lots of them around!

Pogleswood · 01/08/2009 14:55

...so,we have made a plan - none of us can afford to get caught, but we're all at home on the hills...

EverySingleStar · 01/08/2009 16:26

Nope, not in the south! I've traveled all over though, to the ends of the Earth and back. . .

llandb · 01/08/2009 20:18

... the shrink couldn't do anything for me, and now that gamekeeper has ideas above his station!

Need to be able to colour-code each person's posts (oh, is this possible but I don't know?) as it's all getting too confusing for me! Oh and an admission of stumpedness.

MoominMymbleandMy · 01/08/2009 20:43

Evening all! I've been distracted by my nice new copy of Gone With The Wind, you'll be glad to hear, Pogle! I'm not loving Miss Scarlett but the accounts of the war closing in on Atlanta are very gripping and kept me up much, much too late.

And I think I've recognised one! Llandb, are you and the lusty gamekeeper heading for a tryst in Penge?

So that leaves Treacle's, Star's and Pogle's to beg more clues for, please!

OP posts:
llandb · 01/08/2009 22:11

At least Miss Scarlett entertains!

And yes, Moomin', I'm Maurice - and I'm still more perplexed than perspex on everyone's.

llandb · 01/08/2009 22:40

AIBU to buy a telescope?

MoominMymbleandMy · 01/08/2009 22:51

Hmm, depends what you're using it for, I'd say...ships good, neighbours undressing bad...

So what is its purpose?

Continued plea for more clues from Pogle, Treacle and Star, because you're all bloomin' baffling!

OP posts:
llandb · 01/08/2009 23:10

It's for the night sky! Actually it's for my bf - but our relationship is secret so I have to pretend to be his patroness...

Joining the clue-plea.

'Night, All!

Pogleswood · 02/08/2009 08:56

Morning!
Glad you're enjoying GWTW,Moomin - I've just got Tales of The City From the library, have far too many books here at the moment!

Also joining the clue plea!

...We plan to tell the landowners what we will poach, and when, then see if they can stop us!...

llandb · 02/08/2009 11:32

... I feigned an interest in his pusuit as an excuse to join him on the tower. But now I have fallen for astronomy, and he has fallen for me! Pity about my terrible husband...

Puzzled as a jigsaw!

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/08/2009 12:56

Afternoon all!

Llandb, could you be accused of a)slumming it, and b)cradle-snatching, by certain narrow-minded persons?

Pogle, I have no blessed idea at all but I hope you're liking Tales of the City.

AIBU to be sick of chickens?

OP posts:
llandb · 02/08/2009 13:49

Clues? (Hopefully)

Yay Moomin, yes, I'm star-crossed Viviette from Two on a Tower!

I want to do pirate-themed things but will hold off until Talk Like a Pirate Day

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/08/2009 14:45

Oh good!

...Raising chickens is not all it's cracked up to be. They smell, they fight and they drop dead for no reason...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 02/08/2009 15:00

Talk like a Pirate Day??

Chickens?

...we've adopted an alias - poaching not being something we could do as ourselves - (a Tory Cabinet Minister, MP(and ex Attorney General) and Banker)...

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/08/2009 15:21

...And with no running water, no electricity, and a baby and a toddler to care, for this is certainly not proving to be a rural idyll...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 02/08/2009 15:37

This sounds just like a book my friend has, about a couple who dropped out of city life - in America -to raise chickens, set in the 1950's?? Probably something far more mainstream though, cunningly disguised!

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/08/2009 15:44

Oh Pogle! I don't do cunning disguises - mine are about as subtle as a sledgehammer!

I was wondering if you were a clever vulpine but I'm back to stumped mode now.

...We are in America but a few decades earlier than the 1950s. And we're living in the middle of nowhere and I've discovered I don't like my DH...

OP posts:
MaKettle · 02/08/2009 16:00

Pogle, I think you're thinking of The Egg by Betty McDonald - where my username comes from (preens!). So Moomin, if it's not that, then I'm doubly intrigued. Can't beat a good book with chickens in!

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/08/2009 16:17

Ah, I thought you'd recognise that one immediately, MaKettle. I was going to mention the slovenly neighbours for my next clue!

AIBU to not want to eat any more raw onions?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 02/08/2009 17:30

Yes,that was it - all I had was a vague memory of it sitting in her bookshelf, and reading bits of it while we were visiting!(memory of the period way off,I see!)

So should I reveal mine? I'm sure if you'd read it you'd be recognising it by now.
...We are poaching in Scotland, and in the 1920's...

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/08/2009 17:51

Ah, nice Google-able clues there, Pogle! I've not even heard of it. Should I be looking for it? And I'm sure you'd love to read all of The Egg and I.

...And I'm a bit sick of eating raw eggs too. But it's all part of my apprenticeship...
