AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 20:38

You do sound rather like Bella, Star, and I'm sure we're all very flattered to be called highbrow, instead of time-wasting slovens surrounded by tottering dusty piles of books!

And I am feeling so stumped. Pogle's is ringing a very faint bell but that's it. More clues, everyone!

...But I worry about my half-sister. She thinks our mother is wonderful, and I know she never means any harm, but you can't say she's normal...

SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 20:42

Sorry Star, have just re-read the first 3 Twilight books and Wicked Lovely so 'twas fresh in my mind.

I missed yours Moomin, I always had a huge soft spot for Will (the Dark is Rising has been a long time favourite) and thought the Drews were incredibly irritating, specially in that book.

..we weren't sure about being sent here while our parents are abroad, but the people we are staying with are very nice.

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 20:42

Oops, cross-posted! No stopping you today, Snow

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 20:46

Yes, exactly what I thought, Snow. Actually, I couldn't bear the Drews, so stuck up and so absurdly dense. But I loved The Dark is Rising and still have a soft spot for Will.

SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 20:52

And thank you to Pogle for doing the Herb of Grace AIBU - I didn't know there were other Damerosehay books so am now on a serious book hunt.

EverySingleStar · 31/07/2009 20:58

Moomin yours is actually sounding familiar...grr. This is going to be one of those 'aha - now I feel like a dickhead' at the big reveal, isnt it? In fact...this whole thread might be like that for me.

Maybe I should bow out now

Let's try something else just in case. If someone gets it as quickly as Snow, I might just go back to my hidey-hole.

...AIBU to wish a guy could just get a break every once in awhile and STOP having to fulfil his family's untended-To Do List?...

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 21:07

No, Star, don't bow out! Every single one of us has felt like kicking themselves several times on these threads but it's good fun and a great source for 'Books to Buy or Borrow'!

And, ahem, I think I'll be kicking myself again soon because I'm not recognising anything at the moment .

Older DDs would be handy for getting my current one, btw.

...Normal mothers don't fill the freezer with ice cream and forget to buy normal food. And don't get me started on the tattoos...

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 21:08

Don't go Star - it takes a while to get the hang of how everyone thinks on this thread. And I am definitely one of the dusty-book-pile by the bed brigade...

Moomin, are you continuing the vampire theme here?

SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 21:10

No, you're the illustrated mum this time!

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 21:13

Actually, I'm Star and my Mum's The Illustrated Mum but yes, very well done again, Snow!

'Nother clue, please.

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 21:15

Star - I need more information for yours, please.

..Like I said the people we are staying with are very nice, some of the neighbours are unfriendly, and there are some strange things about after dark.

EverySingleStar · 31/07/2009 21:16

Okay I can see myself getting ridiculously addicted to this.

Hm Moomin, do you have a certain candy in the title of your book?

EverySingleStar · 31/07/2009 21:20

Bah, cross-posted again. And was wrong. I suck.

...I like a good party as much as anyone, but at the end I wouldn't mind staying home for awhile...

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 21:43

Still stumped as a tree and I've forgotten to empty the washing machine. Oops!

So before I disappear for a bit:

AIBU to keep getting into fights with people who make snide remarks about my father and my little brother?

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 21:53

Hmmm - still not getting anywhere with yours yet, Star.

Moomin - your Meg never does learn to smile sweetly and ignore the gossip, poor child.

Not just after dark, there are some nasty looking crows around here too.

EverySingleStar · 31/07/2009 21:58

No idea on yours Snow.

...I'm mostly a solitary type guy, but maybe that's due to my best friend being a little toooo friendly sometimes...

llandb · 31/07/2009 22:05

Can't be that highbrow as they let the likes of me in here

Don't think I know anyone's!

AIBU to go for a motorcycle drive into the country with my friend?

Pogleswood · 31/07/2009 22:24

Good grief,I'm going to have to start writing things down,if we've got this many AIBU's running! So...stuck on Star, stuck on llandb...Snow,are you staying near Alderley Edge? (or possibly at..or on.??)

Can't take the credit for The Herb of Grace AIBU,Snow - I wish I had done it though!(Remember going to the National Gallery when I was a student specifically to look at Pisanello's Placidus - the picture described in the book - and Art really isn't my thing..)

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 22:39

And Treacle's, Pogle, we're stuck on that one too!

Snow, that really was super fast! I might have known A Wrinkle in Time would be your sort of book.

Usual pathetic plea for more clues, pretty please.

OP posts:
llandb · 31/07/2009 22:45

Whoopsie, was spotted by tutor (or prof, or proctor, or some such) and didn't stop, so now I've been sent down!

Pogleswood · 31/07/2009 22:51

Sorry Treacle -yes,stuck there too!

...we've decided that we need a challenge, something to add an element of danger to life...

More,more clues,please...

EverySingleStar · 31/07/2009 22:58

. . . I've never much been one for romance and things, but it's common here for men not to marry until well into their 50's . . .

llandb · 31/07/2009 23:43

... I was in love with him, but now he's getting married!

SnowWoman · 01/08/2009 08:28

Funnily enough, Pogle, that's exactly where we are staying for now!

Totally blank on everything else.

llandb, does one get sent down from universities other than Oxbridge?

llandb · 01/08/2009 11:36

Hello all you lland-stumpers!

Snow, dunno but don't need to know as my character has been sent down from Cambridge!

Well, if it had been a girl with me, the tutor or whathaveyou (can't remember) would have turned a blind eye, but he was clearly disgusted that I was mooning over a chap.
