AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

steamedtreaclesponge · 31/07/2009 10:23

Winifrid it was, Moomin!

Ooh have missed loads here. Bit lost with yours, llandb... pocket-sized eh? More clues please!

AIBU to wish my friend would stop drinking so much?

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 11:47

Morning all!

Oh good, Treacle! Were you Petrova or Posy? Either way, I don't think Nana will approve of you calling Pauline a PITA! No idea on your new one, though.

My first thought was Katy too, Llandb, but as you're pocket-sized I'm now wondering if you've escaped from a dolls house.

Pogle, I'm also wondering if you're a bit of a champion at poaching?

More clues please, everyone!

AWBU to think having this boy along will spoil everything?

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 11:55

Oops, the reluctant parachute jumper was so far back I forgot him! Yes, indeed, Snow, you were bang on the nose with Mma Ramotswe's fiance.

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 12:03

Morning Treacle, is your drinking buddy a boy or a girl?

Are you a musical family, Moomin?

Still looking for a new AIBU here.

steamedtreaclesponge · 31/07/2009 12:07

Yes, was Petrova. Posy never seemed to be bothered by anything that much except for dancing!

Moomin yours rings a bell but I think I need another clue please

...we used to be extremely close but have drifted apart recently...

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 12:13

Hmm, did you meet your friend at University then, Treacle?

...We aren't musical but our mother is an artist and we think the youngest is going to follow in her footsteps...

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 12:27

..is the boy your brother's friend from school, Moomin?

AWBU not to get into this woman's car?

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 13:31

Afternoon Snow! At first sight I'd say definitely YANBU but some more detail might make me change my mind.

...We don't know this boy at all! We've just been lumbered with him. It would be bad enough if this was an ordinary holiday...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 31/07/2009 14:29

Spot on, Moomin!

And are you in Cornwall, perchance?

SnowWoman, do you have a habit of visiting standing stones?

llandb · 31/07/2009 15:03

Quite right, Moomin - I'm Imp-Imp-Impunity Jane and have been rescued from that stuffy doll's house!

So, WIBU to wander away from the dinner table? (Hope this one hasn't been done!)

More clues, everyone, please!

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 15:27

Well, it still might not be the right dipso chum, Treacle, but if it's the one I'm thinking of he carts his teddy around with him.

Hooray, Llandb! We haven't had a dolls' house one for a while. Bit stumped on your new one - you might be describing the DS and I think he is BU, very U!

...Yes, we are in Cornwall. We're visiting a little village where we stayed before and had a really exciting adventure. But now we're stuck with this boy and it's going to make everything so difficult...

OP posts:
llandb · 31/07/2009 16:09

It would appear that Treacle has guessed Moomin's, but I wonder whether there are five of you? Though, if so, I don't know which of your adventures; there are so many

...Well the little girl was so crestfallen, so I thought I'd just slip away and correct the past.

steamedtreaclesponge · 31/07/2009 16:22

That's the one! Good old Aloysius.

And Moomin, I'll hazard this previous adventure of yours involved a dog named Rufus and a certain artifact?

Stuck on yours, llandb, any more clues?

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 16:41

Well done, Treacle, we are the irritating Drew children and we don't know just how grateful we're going to be for Will Stanton's company.

Llandb, your one sounds very intriguing but it isn't ringing any bells, more help please!

AIBU to go to live with my newly found Dad and not give my Mum my address or telephone number?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 31/07/2009 16:50

Hmm... more clues all round please!

AIBU to wish the locals were more friendly?

llandb · 31/07/2009 16:56

...And I might pop in and visit the dodos. Not to save them, mind - I learned my lesson with the coelacanth!

steamedtreaclesponge · 31/07/2009 17:17

Definitely don't know what yours is, llandb, but it sounds exciting!

Pogleswood · 31/07/2009 17:51

You've all been busy!
And I need more clues from everyone except llandb, because you are the Regius Professor of Chronology at St Cedd's College,Cambridge, aren't you, llandb! It does help to read lots of clues at once sometimes..

...No raisins involved in my poaching, and I'm not sure if you'd call me a champion - this isn't the sort of activity we'd usually be involved in...

EverySingleStar · 31/07/2009 18:33

This sounds very fun but I'm quite afraid I wont get any of them if they're all 'British-for-British-Folk' types.

I'll do an American one to liven things up

AIBU to sort of miss my mother but sort of be happy and still unhappy with my father?

llandb · 31/07/2009 18:48

Yay, Pogle, yes, I'm Reg! And if you're not Danny then I need more clues from you...

EverySingleStar (may we call you 'Star' for short, or would you rather something else?), as a non-Brit, I find most of the British ones (especially chldren's) go whizzing right over my head, too. So you have company in that regard! Although I am a tad puzzled by yours - could we puh-leeze have another clue?

MoominMymbleandMy · 31/07/2009 19:27

Ohhh! It was Dirk Gently! Haven't you all been busy, and cryptic. More clues please, everyone!

...I've given my half sister a mobile and my telephone number so she can contact me but if my Mum knows where I am she'll try to move in! She won't accept everything was over between her and my Dad before I was born...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 31/07/2009 19:28

...met up with some friends ,and we found that we'd all lost our enthusiasm for life...

Hello,EverySingleStar - do please do some American ones to liven us up! (and more clues please!)

EverySingleStar · 31/07/2009 19:49

Woo I've made it onto a highbrow thread

Star for short is lovely, others have called me ESS but when I was in school that stood for 'Extra Special Services' so please call me Star

Moomin, I swear to god that is a book about my childhood sitting in the bottom of my wardrobe untouched.

...of course I'm just a teenager - but I've always been much more mature than most teens, and even some adults...

SnowWoman · 31/07/2009 20:24

Hi Star, you sound rather like Bella at the moment?

Nasty woman was speaking in a really weird language - my latin isn't that good. Very odd.

EverySingleStar · 31/07/2009 20:33

Good god, that was quick Snow. Must try harder.
