AIBU to want my 2 yo daughter to look pretty?!

My brother is getting married this year and I found the 'perfect' dress for my 2 yo to wear. But now I've been told she is NOT allowed to wear it because it's prettier than the dress they've bought their daughter (who is a bridesmaid). The dress they have bought for her is quite basic so I might as well dress DD in a sack!

AIBU??

Confused now lol. You don't like either or just spaghetti straps?

mylifemykids · 13/01/2009 16:36

OK how about this

www.monsoon.co.uk/invt/45803726&bklist=icat,5,shop,children,babygirl,babygirldresses

Is that 'ok'?!

Perhaps your bro and SIL have chosen a fairly plain dress so that their daughter can wear it again to other people's weddings this year without it looking like she is an extra bridesmaid.

There is a grim outlook for the UK economy perhaps we caould all learn from their example.

LiffeyMermaid · 13/01/2009 16:37

I think halter necks and spaghetti straps were designed with a woman's body in mind (breasts, shoulders).

Like I said, it's not a massive big deal to me, but it's just a feeeeeling I have, that they are inappropriate on a young girl.

I'm not going to think 'wicked shit parents' if I see a four year old in a halter neck though!!

I blame the shops really. They should commission designs with children in mind, not lazily scale down or re-jig existing designs.

thats lovely

mistressmabel · 13/01/2009 16:38

OP - sorry but it is a bridesmaids dress. i would'nt dress my DD in that for a party - way too OTT.

LiffeyMermaid · 13/01/2009 16:38

That floral dress is beautiful nappy. beautiful.

LiffeyMermaid · 13/01/2009 16:38

And perfect for a wedding.

MarshaBrady · 13/01/2009 16:39

Floral dress is gorgeous, million miles better than the pink chintzy one.

LiffeyMermaid · 13/01/2009 16:39

oh sorry i thought nappy posted that monsoon dress. anyway it's lovely.

mistressmabel · 13/01/2009 16:39

OP - That dress is SO much nicer and more appropriate.

sitdownpleasegeorge · 13/01/2009 16:41

mylifemykids

could you link to the sort of dress they have chosen for their own dd ?

stillstanding · 13/01/2009 16:42

That last one is lovely, mylife!

(Still not getting this thing with spaghetti straps. I think little girl's shoulder's look so cute in them and don't think it is a breast thing but weirdly wouldn't put my DD in a halter neck ... )

sitdownpleasegeorge · 13/01/2009 16:42

I too like the monsoon dress.

You could get a fab little pink sparkly cardigan thing to go over it just in case the weather is as crap as the economy this year.

mm22bys · 13/01/2009 16:43

I love it.

Threads like this one so make me wish I had a dd!

MillyR · 13/01/2009 16:44

The dress is nice, but I thought your SIL asked you not to dress your dd in lilac and silver, which both are in that dress, unless it is just how the pic looks on my computer and it is really purple and grey. I am not unsure if that dress is okay or not because of the colours.

mylifemykids · 13/01/2009 16:45

I don't know what the dress looks like sitdownpleasegeorge. All I know is it's purple or lilac with a velvet top and a straight plain bottom

I love the Monsoon dress...but it's quite expensive (in this economy lol)

mylifemykids · 13/01/2009 16:46

stillstanding I wouldn't dress DD in a halterneck either

spaghetti straps tarty, agree. I hate em.

They only ever flatter women with small tits in bridesmaid or prom dresses anyway.

piscesmoon · 13/01/2009 16:53

YABU She can't upstage the bridesmaid-you would hate it if anyone did it to you.

But the bridesmaid dresses are the solid colours so I'm assuming just having grey (it's not shiny is it?!) edges will be ok?

Lovely one from Monsoon here

stillstanding · 13/01/2009 16:56

I think the floralness of this one is ok especially if the cardy is not in lilac/silver.

stillstanding · 13/01/2009 16:57

Mylife's way ahead of you, blame the parents!
