Personally I can't believe so many people want to post on that thread... Yawn! Maybe you could find something more interesting to do... like watch some paint dry??

chockywocky · 07/11/2008 21:24

where, where, show me the paint!...know what you mean, but really enjoyed seeing the various attitudes to money.

I found the posts I read really sad. People seemed to be behaving like spoilt children and moaning about the mortgage on their big house having gone up and not being able to afford foreign holidays etc. It's just a real shame so many people have lost the ability to appreciate what they do have.

happywomble · 07/11/2008 21:34

Thank you for starting this...how frustrating that the other thread stopped just as we were about to discover what Xenia was doing in Iran?!!

MumtoCharlieandLola · 07/11/2008 21:37

Wonderwoman, do you have your period today, you are being very 'snotty' in more than one thread !

wonderwoman73 · 07/11/2008 21:38

No, I'm just a bitch every day of the month!

MumtoCharlieandLola · 07/11/2008 21:40

MumtoCharlieandLola · 07/11/2008 22:19

wow ! Its ages since I killed a thread, can't believe how easy it is.

expatinscotland · 07/11/2008 22:22

moondog · 07/11/2008 22:25

Have you had that baby yet Expat??

Quattrocento · 07/11/2008 22:26

I got the last word

MumtoCharlieandLola · 07/11/2008 22:29

Hello [waves to Expat], congratulations on baby no. 3. Thought you might have been in bed, are you not tired out with the LO ?

padboz · 07/11/2008 22:32

I never clicked on it - wish I had now! Full?? mind boggles

Judy1234 · 07/11/2008 22:52

Continuing from there where there were some comments about me. The people wanting to earn more money then if they do do something like clearnign or bar work there is usually work to be had and if you have a partner then you do it when the partner is home. And whoever said anyone working 40 hours a week cannot do any more hours is really living in cloud cuckoo land. If you want to earn what I and a lot of people do then 40 hours is virtually part time in some careers.

If you can change your mind set to let's see how we can use 5am - 7am on a Saturday in order to earn more etc then you start to see how you can increase earnings rather than just relying on male earnings to keep you in internet connection, food, shoes or whatever.

Although I suppose Mr Xenia had the easiest deal - marry Xenia and walk off with almost £1m. Perhaps sleeping your way to wealth which is what most women do is really the easier plan.

VinegarTits · 07/11/2008 22:53

I dont want to talk about money cos i have none

[Yawn]

hf128219 · 07/11/2008 22:56

I am lucky that I don't need to earn anymore money. But you are right of course there are ways to earn more - when it is needed.

Cat/dog sitting. Take in people's washing/ironing. There are always others willing to pay for these services.

ClaireDeLoon · 07/11/2008 22:57

You seem quite bitter about your divorce settlement Xenia, have you considered counselling?

chipmonkey · 07/11/2008 22:57

Oooooh, can I marry you, Xenia? Cos that sounds like a very good deal!

Twinklemegan · 07/11/2008 23:00

Ooh let's see. Have a life, or work a 60+ hour week for pots of money. Mmmm, let me see...

If you have what you need, anything else is just greed IMO.

sweetkitty · 07/11/2008 23:01

I was just thinking the other day Xenia that I hadn't heard from you in a while

happywomble · 07/11/2008 23:01

Xenia you should stop working so hard, and find a rich man to take care of you!

hf128219 · 07/11/2008 23:05

People get stuck in a life cycle where what they they have seems the norm - therefore the cycle continues and they have to work harder if they want to maintain their lifestyle.

My dh (not a city slicker) works 70 hour weeks. My bf works 100 hour weeks. You see it all really is relative.

Portofino · 07/11/2008 23:05

Xenia, in the interests of research, have you ever done cleaning or bar work. I have(before anyone asks) You seem very keen on these options but i have the impression that this is not something you do/have ever done to earn money. Please feel free to disabuse me by telling me that this how you saved up to buy your island.

Liffey · 07/11/2008 23:08

'most women' sleep their way to wealth??

I wonder where I went wrong. Have about 25p to my name.

ready2pop · 07/11/2008 23:08

Perhaps,Mr Xenia and us SAHMs are really the smart ones after all then?

Agree about the hours though. My career demanded far more than 40 hours per week generally at least 70 and often far more - which is why I'm in no rush to go back to it. DH's job is even more demanding - he is still at it now poor love.

What is depressing is that all this slogging our guts out doesn't seem to be paying off. Don't get me wrong, DH's income is great but because we have to live in London we are by no means well off - no foreign holidays this or last year, second hand estate car that has seen better days and pretty average house that just happened to be extorionately expensive because it is in London.
