I was listening to the Book club thing on R4 and vaguely wondered if Xenia could be Fay Weldon.

I am the major wage earner in our house and have degree,work hard,often over hours,for crappy pay.Yeah big mug sign on forehead.I think if you have never been in debt,live to means etc you should muddle through OK,if you really budget.The op is incloud cuckoo land if she sees foreign travel as a right not a luxury.

Hmm, I post on another board (for lawyers) which has an outspoken poster who is always complaining about her expensive divorce settlement and once asked for advice on how to keep her children occupied during the flight to their island. I wonder if they are one and the same?

No, not a nurse. My job's not so important I'm afraid. I am public sector though, and there's a pretty constant theme running through p/s jobs of being very overworked and very underpaid.

The diversity on MN is good,I feel.I would never be a £M wage earner.

I think for the OP of original thread if she were living in London and had to pay school fees etc it could be difficult,but then there are mn living on a very low wage/no wage who could feel offended by OP,so its a tricky one.

And rightly or wrongly, I would feel a tad bitter if a divorce cost me £1 million, tbh.

I have no doubt that Xenia is real (as in not troll) but her responses are always " get a job", "get another job", "hand the kids over to a child minder and get a job" etc.

So on one hand I think she has valuable input as somone who has obviously succeeded professionally ( so is to be applauded) but on the other hand I think she forgets that people live in very different circumstances and have very different constraints.

But hey, that's the beauty of mumsnet.

I'll get my defence in early. I was kidding, and the mistake men make is not realising they are paying maintenance towards their children's upbringing, not their ex-wife.

So what if her world is around work and money, that's her life.

Did you know she was once a student working every hour god sent to pay for childcare? Or that she breastfed her babies and had to express whenever she could get the chance in a world that was not (as today's) legally made to allow breastfeeding?
