To be raging that my DD6 just lost her brand new jazz shoe

ElfinsMum · Today 06:08

I bought them for her 2 days ago. Forty quid for a tiny (ugly) pair of shoes. She did one class in them. Will have to replace immediately because we are two weeks from the big annual concert.

I actually cried in the middle of the reception area at the dance studio out of the sheer frustration. The teenage dance teacher couldn't have given fewer fucks.

Go on: hit me up with your best tales of stuff your kids have lost!!

Losing one is almost more frustrating, isn’t it?

CeciliaMars · Today 06:16

As a teacher, I have to ask, did they have her name in them?!

Yello24 · Today 06:17

Sorry to be that person and probably stoke your rage but. Are they completely lost? In two days there must be limited places they could be?

Dontlletmedownbruce · Today 06:29

She obviously lost them at the dance studio then? If the name is on them you'll find them.

My elderly dad has always given cash presents to my kids, but this year he bought jewellery. Ds got a lovely watch and Ddad made a big fuss of having picked it out etc, he said he wanted something to remind him of him. He is mid 80s and living on borrowed time due to a heart condition. DS loved the gift and a few days later we were flying on a city break so he decided to bring it. He stupidly put it in a side pocket of his luggage which he then forgot about and it was only when checking out to leave that we realised it was gone. We were gutted. I travelled to the same store with the box and they were able to recognise the product but it was discontinued, the supplier managed to track down one and sent it on, I had to pay for it myself and the whole process took months, the shop were so helpful thankfully. So alls well that ends well but he still hasn't worn it. It cost me a fair bit and 2 round trips to my Dad's town.

It's obviously just found it's way into the wrong bag. If it's got her name in it should be easily found by messaging the parents to check their kids bag.

Yep. On the inside in massive letters in black marker.

I can’t find my late grandmother’s engagement ring. I wore it on my wedding day eight years ago. My parents gave it to me to pass onto my daughter. I can’t find it anywhere yet I know I kept it safe (so I thought).

I daren’t tell anyone and hope it turns up.

I wish i had your confidence. I have emailed the dance school owner (who is lovely) asking her to put out a group email but I don't really expect anyone to check their kids' bags. I don't even know which of the two different classes she goes to might have it.

Just buy a second hand pair on vinted for £5?

Simonjt · Today 06:43

Our son lost a brand new hockey skate on the first day of use recently, the skate didn’t even make it to the rink. They were £240, it takes a lot to irritate me, but when coach rang and said he only had one skate, several deep slow breaths were needed as I knew both skates were in the bag when he left the house.

Its such a short journey as well, two minutes to the metro, two stops, five minutes to the arena. How do you take out a huge bloody skate and completely forget? He’s now banned from taking any of his kit home unless me or his Papa are with him.

Years ago bought my daughter a Nintendo ds for her birthday. Money was tight so put it on a buy now pay later plan. She had it for about a month and took it to the park and left it there! Went back to look for it and obviously it was long gone! Was an extra kick in the teeth when I had to start making the payments for it not long after!

CrispnFry · Today 06:48

I would send my daughter with full uniform for three different dance classes. I'd drop her by the top of the driveway and by the time she walked down, got into the changing room, and the first class started, she had lost something. Every week. Without fail.

mind you, my mum paid for a passport for me, I had it approximately one hour before I went to the shops, I lost it, it was handed in to the police station and it was destroyed. I was 30.

I actually can't look at the one remaining shoe.

Are there going to be any consequences for DD's carelessness? I know she's only 6 but does she not know to take care of her things and put them away safely?

It was destroyed? Why would it be destroyed?

Oh my goodness! This is a perfect illustration of how their problems get bigger as they get older, i.e. the things they own get more expensive…!

I hope DS is paying you back in instalments.

6 is young ! But yes very frustrating my DD6 loses stuff all the time. I’ve stopped buying anything fancy unless I will physically be with her to keep it safe.

I second the poster above re vinted though. I used to buy DD brand new always but she’d constantly scuff up her lovely new ballet and tap stuff so I started buying second hand. Especially at this young age.

ElfinsMum · Today 07:09

Yeah that's probably fair....my older kids are generally quite good with their stuff.

My 15 yo did once hurl a tiny shoe we had literally just bought over the side of her buggy and it was never seen again. We hadn't even left the shopping centre yet!! I had to go back to Clarks and explain why we were back already.

Yes, I got a pair of brand new jazz shoes for my DD for £7 on vinted earlier this year because she needed them for a 1 week workshop.

shuffleofftobuffalo · Today 07:10

One brand new ballet shoe around the same age maybe a year older. I feel your pain OP. I had stern words with her about being more careful with her stuff and the cost of replacing it, all shoes have stayed pairs since (now 14!)

dancinfeet · Today 07:12

as a dance teacher this is 100% the sort of thing that I would put on our school closed facebook group (and tag everyone) asking all
students to check their bags. Is this an option? A lot of missing uniform has been found this way on ours and lost property left at the studio gets rehomed with a quick photo and post on the group (we don’t even have a lost property box as most of it gets back to the owner within a couple of days). The only items that are unsuccessfully found if they make their way into other people’s bags are because they are unnamed. Our members only fb group is set to private and is pretty much a digital notice board for all general notices and reminders, we have an open page too that is for general business advertising. I hope your daughter gets her shoe back, failing that, try vinted for a cheaper replacement pair if no luck finding the original.

how annoying.

not kids, but many year ago I attended a seminar and each participant was given a flash drive with a thing called a bitcoin on it.

think a bitcoin is worth about 60k now, can I find the drive.......
