To be raging that my DD6 just lost her brand new jazz shoe

ElfinsMum · Today 06:08

I bought them for her 2 days ago. Forty quid for a tiny (ugly) pair of shoes. She did one class in them. Will have to replace immediately because we are two weeks from the big annual concert.

I actually cried in the middle of the reception area at the dance studio out of the sheer frustration. The teenage dance teacher couldn't have given fewer fucks.

Go on: hit me up with your best tales of stuff your kids have lost!!

I wish i had your confidence. I have emailed the dance school owner (who is lovely) asking her to put out a group email but I don't really expect anyone to check their kids' bags. I don't even know which of the two different classes she goes to might have it.

Why do you expect no one will check? Are they are bunch of miseries? I’d certainly check if I received such an email.

DS had a brand new pair of shoes that he wore to pre-school aged 3.5yrs.

When I collected him later, he was wearing the same colour and style of shoe but it was clearly well worn and a half size too small. Apparently, they’d had to take their shoes off to do some kind of PE class. He couldn’t remember who he’d been sat next to. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I complained to the teacher and she sent an email to the parents asking them to check. There were only 6 boys in that session that day. The pre-school was in the middle of a very expensive posh area and none of the kids attending were from poor families.

The shoes were never returned! 😤

I have left a mobile phone in a loo in Gatwick departures.
I have left my passport in arrivals in Seville.
Got both back (phew) - we are human.

The only things I've ever lost that I miss are pieces of jewellery.
My mother's engagement ring. Was in my jewellery box in my bedroom - then it wasn't. No burglars (credit card and other things of value left untouched) and the kids (who were not yet teenaged) swear blind they never touched it.

A necklace that belonged to a deceased aunt. Wore it a LOT, because I loved it. Put it somewhere safe when I took it off after an evening out nearly twenty years (and two house moves) ago. Never turned up.

A necklace bought for me by DD 3. Wore it walking the dog, chain came undone, 'necklace' part fell off. Despite immediately going back and combing the route (it was only a five minute walk because I was going out) it was never seen again.

I've stopped wearing any jewellery now.

One brand new (named) StartRite school shoe week into the new school year…..
Child changed for football club at the end of the day, collected him straight after and he wore his trainers home.
Unpacked his bag and only found one shoe… I put out a msg on the class group, went in and searched the classroom with the teacher first thing the next morning and we never found it 🥴
6 years later I still can’t forget that feeling of searching for it…. I brought black trainers after that so he didn’t have to change shoes from the school day/football until he had graduated to football boots.

I can’t find my late grandmother’s engagement ring. I wore it on my wedding day eight years ago. My parents gave it to me to pass onto my daughter. I can’t find it anywhere yet I know I kept it safe (so I thought).

I daren’t tell anyone and hope it turns up.

I couldn’t find a necklace that had been in the family for 6 generations, as well as my wedding & engagement rings. Turned the place upside down. No lie, I’ve just found them today - in an Ugg boot where obviously I’d hidden them! D’oh!

£40 for jazz shoes? That seems crazy and I would be frustrated if she lost them.

They are usually less than £20 though!

Gwenhwyfar · Today 11:17

Maybe a naive question from a non-parent, but would any of the other dancers a bit bigger than your DD have some to hand down?

what's a jazz shoe?

I know nothing about jazz but even I can guess that they are shoes someone wears to dance to jazz.

Yes, I have lost a piece of jewellery that my husband gave to me.

I'm almost sure it's in the house and have remained silent in the hope it will turn up...unless the hoover picked it up.

NoKindofAtmosphere · Today 11:36

Where is everyone getting jazz shoes for £15/20?!? I just bought some this morning, £32 for some Bloch ones, have also previously had so danca ones about the same price.

As for second hand, my DDs old jazz shoes are minging, no way they could be passed on! They get completely trashed, and wouldn’t be usable for anyone else!

Northernladdette · Today 11:46

One shoe? What use is that to anyone? Surely it’ll turn up?

Friendlygingercat · Today 11:50

If I lost things carelessly they were not replaced because my parents couldn't afford to. I had to do without. I would have been made to miss the dance festival to teach me a lesson in looking after my things.

Actions have consequences.

madaboutpurple · Today 11:51

I put jazz shoe in on google and from Amazon they are a much cheaper price. I would not spend as much as you have done OP especially as they might not fit her for long. I haven't checked eBay or vinte d.I do hope the shoe is returned but I am wondering why you are spending so much. I would not do so especially as she has been careless. At her age she will not appreciate the fact that you spent so much. I would advise look for cheaper.

what's a jazz shoe?

a delicious snack, not suitable for vegans though.

It's MN, not google 🙄

LIZS · Today 12:19

A basic jazz shoe from dancedirect is definitely less than £40, even Bloch. Splitsole or jazz trainers are more. @ElfinsMumI’d be cross too! It might yet turn up but probably not in time for the show. Ask the school to send out a message in case it got put in another child’s bag.

dd wore her new Reeboks for sports day in year 1 and only one came back home.

I lost a bracelet belonging to my gran. It turned up ages later when I wasn’t looking for it.

WearyAuldWumman · Today 12:38

purpleme12 · Today 07:03

It was destroyed? Why would it be destroyed?

To stop it from falling into the wrong hands.

Same happened when I left my card at the tills in Morrison's. I went back for it, but it had already been cut up.

CillianMurphyhasbeautifuleyes · Today 12:43

XenaSharples · Today 07:27

It will turn up when you least expect it.

I agree.
My gran’s bracelet turned up after being missing for ages.

Well yes obviously but what makes them different to the standard dance shoes that Anello and David dance shoes back in the day?

Anonymousmember12345 · Today 13:05

I couldn’t find a DVD from a flipping story book once and the fine was £50! I wanted to cry.

CrispnFry · Today 13:10

@ElfinsMum if she was at class this morning 9-10.15, I found it and returned it to her. If not, there's been a mum in exactly your situation and at least I helped her!

Littleferns · Today 13:18

We had to buy my daughter a bus pass for college costing £300. She lost it the first day, we were allowed to replace it once for £10 . That replacement was also lost at the end of the second week and they wouldn’t allow another replacement. The only option was to spend another £300 for a new one. Which I refused to do so she had to cadge lifts ot stay with her dad (who lived closer) for the rest of her first year!
A very expensive lesson learnt!
