To be raging that my DD6 just lost her brand new jazz shoe

I bought them for her 2 days ago. Forty quid for a tiny (ugly) pair of shoes. She did one class in them. Will have to replace immediately because we are two weeks from the big annual concert.

I actually cried in the middle of the reception area at the dance studio out of the sheer frustration. The teenage dance teacher couldn't have given fewer fucks.

Go on: hit me up with your best tales of stuff your kids have lost!!

He wasn't being bullied/a bully

He just had a knack of losing stuff-he once walked from the kitchen to his bedroom and lost his school tie

Another time he walked in,took his shoes off and they disappeared

Hes never really grown out of it-he's always losing his keys or wallet

Losing your trousers? Really? Only time I have known anyone to lose their trousers and go home in their underwear is if someone ripped them off them.

I'm sorry, that's so annoying.

Maybe you could get a cheap pair online?

Could also be a teachable moment too.

EmpathyMatters77 · Today 13:48

Hope the concert is a smash success 😀😀😀

dd danced for years, it was fairly common in the younger groups for shoes to vanish then reappear!Checking kids bags was a regular thing, dont loose hope. If no luck ask if anyone has second hand in the right size they want to sell. There was a thriving market on the parents ( mums) whats ap group as dd school

Remember an irate dad coming to my door complaining my son had his son's shoes. He knew this as his son had my son's shoes. I guess I should have been just as irate as him. Turned out my son had another boys shoes and he had irate dad's son's shoes. All the shoes looked identical but one pair was half a size bigger than the others and the two the same size were different widths. I thought it was hilarious which just seemed to make him even more angry as I asked him for my son's shoes.

what's a jazz shoe?

Theyre the first hit that comes up when you google ‘jazz show’.

After the first couple of pairs i always replaced my kids' dance shoes from ebay. Would resell them again after if they were in ok condition.

My elder child has ADHD (so do I) and lost loads of things, all named. Once he lost one of a new pair of trainers from his PE bag. I posted on the school Facebook group and someone replied saying they had spotted a shoe in the gutter outside school. I lived just around the corner and ran round and grabbed it. Sopping wet but dried out in the airing cupboard. I was so glad I had asked!

I think, particularly because he was so scatty, he was also a bit of a target for "stealing to order" like some other posters have referred to. Brand new winter coat missing after just a few days. He has to carry on squeezing into his old one. Mysteriously the "new" coat turned up dumped in the playground just before the Easter hols, clearly worn and with his name labelled crossed out! Same with new jumper. His teacher let him have an old tatty one from lost property that had been there a couple of years. Once summer term rolled around his jumper was suddenly found on the floor of the cloakroom. Grrrrr.

what's a jazz shoe?

I had no idea til last Thursday. Turns out it's a kind of ugly beige flat shoe but made of super soft leather. Hence expensive.

I am a first time dance parent. The shop (which is the one required by the dance studio) gives me the fear tbh. I did kind of stare at the assistant when she said the price after bleeping them.

£40 for jazz shoes? That seems crazy and I would be frustrated if she lost them.

They are usually less than £20 though!

We're not in the UK. I assume we're paying for quite a lot of shipping.

One of mine had a school uniform with quite expensive woollen cardigans and much cheaper ones made of sweat shirt material - all with the school logo. All had several name tags. She preferred the woollen ones but in the first month of school, she managed to leave both woollen cardigans behind on separate occasions. We never saw them again. She has subsequently left behind a cheap one (now a bit washed out) but astonishingly, it was still on her peg next day. I'm at a loss to understand one dance show but I feel your pain!

DH bought me a gorgeous bracelet for Christmas many years ago, it was slightly small, so we were going to return to the jeweller to get some links added. I put it aside and we continued opening presents and the bracelet was never seen again. We suspect it was throw.away with some discarded wrapping paper. I felt dreadful!

I feel your pain OP. My now 15 yo DS was the worst for losing things. I remember a few years ago in the first week of term he lost a brand new pair of school shoes, one football boot, an expensive PE zip up top and his school blazer. All on different occasions. Over the years he has lost so much kit. He is v absent minded and is frustrated with himself but it’s so painfully expensive. I’m not much better. I recently stashed an expensive solid gold bracelet and large gold cocktail ring in a safe place… Can I find it?! Of course not. I’ve also lost my great grandmother’s ruby ring and had some VERY sentimental and expensive other jewellery stolen. I used the insurance proceeds to buy an oil painting from a Royal Academy artist as I figured it was harder to lose.

PS: I discovered last year while volunteering at DS’s school that they have a lost property room. Except it’s more like a bloody warehouse with row upon row of lost clothing and shoes neatly lined up in size order. I could have wept.

managingexpectations · Today 14:58

ive lost a watch. It has to be somewhere in my house but I’ve hunted for it and can’t find it. I was going to sell it, so I’ve essentially lost about £1000! I can’t even blame anyone else it’s entirely my own fault!

Londersand · Today 15:07

They’re £14 on Amazon

My daughter lost her entire PE kit, 3 days after starting secondary school. I replaced the whole lot second hand from the PTA. The original kit turned up two weeks later! The spares were quite useful though.....

I think your shoe will turn up. Does your dance school not have a secondhand uniform system? Ours does. Kids grow out of tap shoes so quickly we always used to sell them on
