To be raging that my DD6 just lost her brand new jazz shoe

ElfinsMum · Today 06:08

I bought them for her 2 days ago. Forty quid for a tiny (ugly) pair of shoes. She did one class in them. Will have to replace immediately because we are two weeks from the big annual concert.

I actually cried in the middle of the reception area at the dance studio out of the sheer frustration. The teenage dance teacher couldn't have given fewer fucks.

Go on: hit me up with your best tales of stuff your kids have lost!!

Over £2k in sports kit in one bag, although tbf, I think it was stolen so not my DC’s fault.

I was a single mum years ago

We had very little money (every penny was accounted for) but ds would leave the house and lose whatever he had with him-everything from shoes to his coat

He once lost his school trousers-the expensive branded school trousers (I could only afford one pair and he'd lost them)

He came home in his boxers

Another time he came home with his locked bike in his shoulder as he'd lost the key and only had one shoe-he'd only gone to the park

I've cried more tears of frustration over him over the years than I have anything else

That sounds more like bullying than losing.

Yep..

£80 (and 2 appointments) for a gum shield for sports.. DS lost it after the first match!

Expensive ear plugs for surfer DC who got lot's of ear infections. Lost first time! (And it had a bloody wire to attach to his wetsuit.. but no.. still lost)

£80 (2nd hand) mobile phone left in changing room during sport..on his actual birthday when he actually got the phone..guess what?

Brand new expensive hoodie (another birthday present) used as a goal post anyone?

And I must add when they were younger I had to suck it up..
As they got older it was 'oh dear, what are you going to do?' from me..

They learnt..or maybe just didn't tell me?

Bitzee · Today 08:17

I wouldn’t replace them yet because there’s quite a good chance someone them has but won’t be able to return them until the next class, presumably next week. That still gives a week before this big concert so plenty of time to sort if they don’t turn up. I think that’s unlikely though if they’re clearly named. My kids forget stuff at school all the time but we’ve never not been reunited with it.

froggybiby · Today 08:18

I hope the shoes turn up though ...I wouldn't be so confident as to say that they will turn up as DD one lost a brand new school jumper (with logo) at school, it was duly labelled, she came home with another that had holes in...luckily when she went back to school & teacher was made aware...she turned to a boy & said ...X this is your jumper give DD hers back....believe it or not the other parent had cut our label & put the boy's name on it ! We also had another case where a parent returned to us sister's cardi that was well worn. Girl who was in DD's class was about 3 sizes smaller so we knew straight away whose cardigan it was mixed up with. Funny thing is I think the girl would never have been able to wear DR'S cardi as she was tiny.

MargaretThursday · Today 08:19

You can get second hand ones fairly easily if you look around, but they shouldn't be £40 in the first place.
I've never paid more than £25 for Jazz shoes, except the jazz trainers, but they weren't allowed those until they stopped growing.

Mistachio · Today 08:21

It’ll turn up surely - what use is one shoe to anyone else?

Consequences for another child walking off with her shoe? I get it’s really infuriating but it’s unlikely to be something she’s got much if any control over.

Yes. Because the other child didn’t take it off her foot or out of her bag. The OPs child should learn to put things away in their bag as they take them off, so that other children don’t take them and they don’t get lost.

When my DS was a toddler, we were skint. As in, no carpet upstairs skint as we literally didn’t have the money. My lovely auntie treated him to his first pair of shoes from Clarkes and I was so, so grateful.

Took him for a little walk (in and out of his pram as toddlers are) and when we got home I realised a shoe was missing. He’d had them one whole day. It must have slipped off between the park and home. I walked up and down that route for hours trying to find it but it was gone. I sobbed about that.

That's so upsetting. DS lost a brand new Clarks zip up boot at the same age while sitting in his pushchair on a dog walk. I rewalked the route immediately , but couldn't find it. A local woman who spoke to occasionally told she'd found a boot and put it up on a drystone wall beside a cultivated field where we had walked. She went back at some point and couldn't find it either.
I really wish she had taken it home and posted about finding a lost boot on the local Facebook page.
I've found soft toys, taken them home and got them returned to happy owners that way.

Batsuke1 · Today 08:23

It’s so frustrating op! These things are expensive and I bet it will turn up the moment you buy a new pair. It’s probably found it’s way I to another child’s bag and will turn up in a week or so.

I once had a piece of school uniform returned to me by a parent 2 years later! They had been clearing out some drawers and found it at the bottom.

ILoveKits · Today 08:24

i Hope it turns up. Please set consequences for your child though. I always bought my children one of what they needed, and I would replace if was worn out or out grown. If they lost it they paid to replace it. They either paid with pocket/birthday money or they paid in chores. Always chores and not something like lost screen time. They had to work to replace it. It wasn’t a punishment but a reality check on the value of things.

I always told mine to take care of their things but if something was lost it was not as important as them and I never, ever wanted them to be scared to tell me or to come home.

BurnoutGP · Today 08:25

My dad and stepmother gifted me (us) a gold kruger rand (they are south african) on my wedding day a long time ago. Somehow during the divorce it has disappeared. My exH is adamant he does not have it. I have searched the house repeatedly. Its now worth about 3k. I still hold out a small hope that it will someday miraculously appear.

Bigtrapeze · Today 08:26

EdgyNewt · Today 06:43

Just buy a second hand pair on vinted for £5?

This. We must, as a planet, already have enough jazz/tap shoes in existence for every child to use forever more. Where do they all go when grown out of?? Our dance school had a secondhand box you could help yourself to. The amount of dance paraphernalia in landfill must be plenty.

nopenotplaying · Today 08:26

It’ll turn up as it’s a lone shoe…unless there is a pirate in her class 😉

Thewonderfuldollypartonsbra · Today 08:27

LiberteLynx · Today 08:13

That sounds more like bullying than losing.

He wasn't being bullied/a bully

He just had a knack of losing stuff-he once walked from the kitchen to his bedroom and lost his school tie

Another time he walked in,took his shoes off and they disappeared

Hes never really grown out of it-he's always losing his keys or wallet

AuditAngel · Today 08:28

What size? What colour? What style? I think I have one small pair still knocking around.

Bigtrapeze · Today 08:32

Orangejuiceisgood · Today 08:21

Yes. Because the other child didn’t take it off her foot or out of her bag. The OPs child should learn to put things away in their bag as they take them off, so that other children don’t take them and they don’t get lost.

At 6???

Sassylovesbooks · Today 08:33

My son's entire PE kit went missing at school, when he was in Year 3 or 4. All named. Teacher didn't give two hoots. I wasn't allowed in school to help him look (even though I'm DBS cleared and work for the same Trust! 🙄). It turned up half a term later...another child had stuffed my son's kit and trainers into his own PE bag!! How he didn't notice I have no idea! The Mum noticed when he brought home a very stuffed, heavy PE bag! Of course, I'd had to go out and buy an entire new kit (some I managed to buy secondhand). I was not impressed.

Magnoliasunrise · Today 08:34

Whole school bag 3 weeks into new term of Year 8, fully named with all new stationary, books, calculator etc and even had a tracker in it. I told school it was in school although I couldn't pin point the actual place. I wasn't allowed to go in and search myself but staff said they had "searched the entire school" and it was definitely not there.

2 months later DS came home saying you'll never guess what I found under a tree on the school field? Yes the entire untouched bag.

Blackcat2026 · Today 08:37

Bloody hell, why are the dance school making 6 year olds buy £40 jazz shoes?! That's ridiculous! They're around £15-20 by brands like Roch Valley or Bloch.

Cheesehound · Today 08:38

Feel your frustration but in the grand scheme… Maybe another parent of a child in the class has a pair they could lend yours? I hope you didn’t take it out on your 6 year old. She’s 6. They lose stuff. It’s just the way.

wildnwilde · Today 08:39

My house is a shrine to off shoes . Kids ramgin 28 to 6 😭😭😭😭

dizzydizzydizzy · Today 08:41

Not my DCs, but me. Age about 14 at school, I accidentally threw my braces in the bin with the wrappers from my packed lunch. I did go looking for them but the bin had been emptied. DM lost her Invisalign braces recently. She has no idea where. The dentist told her off🤣

Busybeemumm · Today 08:41

DS age 7 came home from school wearing two different shoes.

Must have taken them off for PE or swimming and somehow got swapped.

Put messages out to the year group and local groups etc but no response. Brand new school shoes and only had them for one week into the new school year 😬

I can’t find my late grandmother’s engagement ring. I wore it on my wedding day eight years ago. My parents gave it to me to pass onto my daughter. I can’t find it anywhere yet I know I kept it safe (so I thought).

I daren’t tell anyone and hope it turns up.

It may well turn up. During a long overdue clear out of a couple of drawers a few months ago, I was utterly amazed to find a pair of diamond and pearl earrings dh had given me ages ago. I had spent several years racked with guilt for thinking they had been accidentally thrown out through my own stupid carelessness.
Yet there they were, in a tiny box, but not the fancier one they’d originally come in. How on earth did I have no memory of putting them there?

🤞you will have a similar experience in the not too distant!
