You didn’t lose an hour. You gained an hour. There were 25 hours in the day today.

If you always get up at 9am, and you got up at 9am today, you would have had an extra hour of sleep. There were two instances of 1am this morning. It went 1am to 2am, then the clocks all went back to 1am again and did that hour a second time. We had an extra hour. You haven’t lost anything.

If you put your kid to bed when the clock today said 8.30pm and then you wake him up tomorrow morning at the same time you woke him up last Monday morning then he will have been in bed asleep for the same number of hours he has been in bed asleep every other night.

The country has not removed an hour from the day. The time on the clock is the time on the clock, the same as it has been every other day of your life. The number of hours between 8.30pm tonight and 7am tomorrow is the same number of hours as every other night.

Last night, there was an extra hour. Today was 25 hours long. You feel tired because we’ve shifted. Not lost. Just shifted back. Right now it is 11.30pm but you are tired because your body will think it is actually half past midnight. It doesn’t matter, you just need to get used to the slight change. You have not lost an hour. If you go to bed at the usual time and get up at the usual time, you are getting the same number of hours of sleep. Just moved back an hour.

So is it spring when we lose the hour? It's either one or the other

Yes, in spring you lose an hour. You’ll wake up and it will say 8am but you will feel like it is 7am and be tired because you’ve had one less hour of sleep.

I wonder why mine always start to play up this time of year, always remember it being before Halloween. Sure it was the loss of the hour last night

It must be very tiring if your brain can't get to grips with it.

Do you still think you lost an hour last night?

You got an extra hour in bed. We did not lose an hour. There were 25 hours in the day today. Do you understand that?

I'm sure i'm not the only one!
Anyway, thanks all, going to sleep as worried how tired i'll be in the morning
Why do they even do this?! they really are annoying. No need for it is there.

Now that's a separate question, and i tend to agree that we don't need it. But it happens, it's very easy to understand as shown by everyone knows this thread apart from you, and you've lived your whole life with it. You have not lost an hour, you had an extra hour in bed. You will not continue to lose hours every day until you're in negative sleep equity.

Merrybandofpirates · 25/10/2026 23:38

You are tired because today was 25 hours long.

When you woke up, your brain would think “oh, it’s 8am” but with the clock change, it was now 7am. But you’re still awake thinking it’s 8am and you can’t get back to sleep so you get up and start your day. You’ve had the same number of hours of sleep you always get, and you get on with your day. The problem is that you will be get tired at your normal bedtime, say 10pm. But the clock says 9pm. And you think “I’m exhausted and it’s only 9pm.” You’re tired because you’ve had an extra hour today, it’s a long day, and you need to try and stay iI until the clock says it’s your usual bed time so you can get back into routine. Tonight, there are the same number of hours as usual. Your kid went to bed at 8pm and you will wake him up when the alarm goes off, so he will get the same number of hours of sleep that he always gets. No lost hour.

You're tired because you're overthinking unnecessarily .

Just remember it's "Spring Ahead/Fall Back". You lose an hour of sleep the night the clocks go forward an hour and gain an hour of sleep the night the clocks get turned back.
It's just not rocket science and it feels like my one leg is now longer than the other.

The phrase is spring forward, fall back.

Whatever the reason for your child acting up, it has nothing to do with losing an hour since we all gained an extra hour last night.

When the time changes in Spring we'll lose 1 hour but only for one night.

Honestly, I think we leave it here. Your mind will not be able to even begin to comprehend the answer to this question.

Hope you manage to catch up on the sleep for the hour you gained.

All the chronic insomniacs are laughing maniacally because WE don’t lose any sleep no matter what the clocks are at, forward or back. Bwahaha! 😈

We need it or it would still be dark at 9.30 l-10.15 am in Scotland and that’s not good for school children

YOU DID NOT LOSE AN HOUR!! YOU GAINED ONE BECAUSE CLOCKS WENT BACK! So did your madly sensitive child unless they live in a bubble that has a time zone all of its own!

You lose an hour in spring when clocks go forward an hour again.

Remember the rhyme ""Spring forward, fall (i.e. autumn) back" and it is easy to remember, for most of us.

DontLiveByTheClouds · 26/10/2026 07:16

I don't know if I dare post that it takes me until tonight/tomorrow morning to feel normal. Always been the case.
