It's an hour. Keep your hair on

But it adds up over time.

That assumes they understood to sleep an hour more!

😅

What adds up? It's only happening twice a year 😅

But it changes in the spring
You cant seriously think you spend an entire 6 months noticing it wasnt the time it was 6 months before that!

My toddler normally goes to bed at 7. Today he went at 6.30 (which to his body clock was 7.30 really) and tomorrow hope to stretch him until 7 and then we’ll be back to normal. I’ll probably go myself a little earlier than usual, but not much!

Yes so mine goes at 8.30, so should they go to bed now?

OP posts:
Smartiepants79 · 25/10/2026 19:26

Why will it build up over time???
They go to bed at 8:30. They sleep, they wake up at 6. They’ve had their usual sleep quota. Job done. At the worst they might have had 1 hour less, one night.

Smartiepants79 · 25/10/2026 19:23

Losing an hour of what??? It’s not that hard. Just put them to bed as close to their normal bedtime as possible and that will be that. What time did they wake this morning?

Earlier than normal

Jesus Christ..

Do your kids never happen to sleep slightly earlier or later, or is it always 8.30pm on the dot?
They won't turn into pumpkins

Wheredidcottoneyedjoecomefromandwheredidhego · 25/10/2026 19:23

Because now it's 7.30, but is it really 8.30?
My Dc normally goes to bed at 8.30. If I wait until 8.30 now, it will really be 9.30 and they'll be exhausted in the morning

But they won't be because they will have enough sleep. They gained the hour last night.
If you are really panicking (and who knows why) put them to bed at 8.15 or 8 and then move it later over the week
But really no need

The lack of sleep. It will mess it all up and behaviour may change.

8.30! Are you going to live the next 6 months an hour behind? Yes, it might take a couple of days to adjust, but you and the kids will be fine. Just follow the time you see on the clock 😄

What an odd thread. I will go to bed when I'm tired.

FTMJul26 · 25/10/2026 19:28

Just try and forget about the time change and put them to bed at their normal time and hope they wake up normally tomorrow. You seem to be stressing that they’ll loose sleep tonight by getting up at their usual time tomorrow but they won’t because that’ll be the usual number of hours they’ll have slept for, if anything was going to be messed up it was that they woke earlier than usual this morning and want to go to bed early tonight but if you keep them up until their usual time then you’re all caught up and back in routine

wwyd2026 · 25/10/2026 19:28

I’m over the moon because my 24mo’s bedtime is between 8:45-9pm so I’m looking forward to it being an hour earlier!

Wonder how long it will last though.

Your child will be grumpy for a day or two and then be fine.

No. They go to bed at the same time as they always do. They need to get used to the clocks going back an hour. It will take about a week!

But it adds up over time.

It does add up, it’s an hour difference today. Tomorrow it’s no different.

Having said that, I sympathise. This morning my 2yr old woke up at 5am / 6am and I totally forgot the clocks went back. We’ve recently put our kids in their own rooms (we’d each been cosleepng with a child each until now) but the problem is, I sleep lightly and he doesn’t so I now get woken up by both of them and I hop between their respective single beds until morning.

i stormed into my OH’s bedroom at 5am and he lept out of bed offering to take him downstairs 😅 had I of remembered the clocks went back I might have been inclined to go downstairs myself so I’m glad I forgot

What planet do you live on @Wheredidcottoneyedjoecomefromandwheredidhego where the clocks have never gone back an hour before? 🤔
