To think this is a decent day of eating?

I have prepped food for tomorrow and my partner says it’s awful, but I think it’s decent!

Breakfast is baked oats - whey protein added and made with dark chocolate chips and some frozen raspberries. 420 calories and 33g of protein.

Lunch - chicken pie with baby potatoes. Lighter puff pastry used. 520 calories and 54g of protein.

Dinner - beef stew. Beef, potatoes, vegetables and gravy.

Snacks - light Greek yoghurt with stewed berries, and a packet of popchips.

Total - 1511 calories, 137g of protein and 37g of fibre.

I’m on a weight loss journey and will go to the gym before work tomorrow. I think it’s balanced, provides all my fruit and veg for the day (8 portions), hits my goals (im more worried about fibre than protein) and is genuinely tasty wholesome food.

YABU - this is unhealthy.

YANBU - it’s a good day of food.

What’s their problem with it?

He says it’s too many carbs and too many hot meals.

Meat and potatoes for both lunch and dinner is a bit much but otherwise fine. Just needs a a 40 min nature walk added to become a good day.

redskyAtNigh · 25/10/2026 14:42

Different people like to eat in different ways. You're both right.

I will go on a walk at lunch, only 30 minutes in the rain though!

I think it sounds delicious and you’ve smashed the protein for the day! You need carbs for fuel (especially if going to the gym). Ignore him, I say!

ViciousCurrentBun · 25/10/2026 14:43

I can’t see that it’s unhealthy but it’s quite heavy but it’s getting in to winter and cold. I wouldn’t eat spuds twice a day. The only thing I actively dislike is the thought of chocolate in porridge but I’m not a huge chocolate fan.

Pearlstillsinging · 25/10/2026 14:44

I would want more veg at lunchtime and wouldn't have potatoes with a pie but otherwise it sounds OK.

MargotLeadbetterOBE · 25/10/2026 14:45

Your lunch looks like a dinner. I’d have a salad or crackers and cheese salad or sourdough or something. It’s not awful. Looks delicious but quite a lot and I’d venture you underestimate the calories.

PressedThistle · 25/10/2026 14:45

I wouldn't want to eat that breakfast and those snacks, and I wouldn't have chicken pie and beef stew on the same day. So I am kind of with your partner. But you're the one who is eating it!

I don’t :)

I wouldn't have two meals with meat and potatoes in them in one day - I would have something lighter for lunch. But it's your day, so do it your way!

I have peas and carrots in the pie. I’m tempted to quickly cook up some broccoli to go with it but then I am conscious that I may end up wasting it and not finishing it

How many scoops of whey protein are you adding to your porridge to get 33g of protein?! The one I use is 23g per (big) scoop and if I add any more than one scoop, it changes the taste and texture of the porridge so it’s practically inedible.

Your portion sizes at lunch and dinner must be very small to get to those calories too.

20g of protein powder, plus 0% fat Greek yoghurt all adds up! The portions are pretty hearty, it’s all mainly veg to be honest 😂

Fair enough - that’s an impressive calories to protein ratio then!

I’m honestly really impressed 😂 I’ve never had it this good before.

Plus the stew will be repurposed when it’s gone all lovely and slow cooked and be used as a pie filling on one day, for another lower calorie/high protein lunch. I’d rather have three really hearty meals than loads of snacks to be honest

If the portions are hearty then I’m sure you’re underestimating. I would have a lighter lunch if I were on a weight loss journey.

I’ve posted the exact calorie breakdown, I’m not underestimating. I’ve stood and weighed it all out as I’ve made it. I just don’t use oil etc

I don't eat meat - but if I did, I'd love this menu!

stillhiding1990 · 25/10/2026 14:54

How many grams of sugar and fat?

MargotLeadbetterOBE · 25/10/2026 14:54

The two poll questions are unreasonable. Of course it’s not unhealthy. It’s also a good day of food.

Hayley1256 · 25/10/2026 14:55

Won't there be a lot of Christmas clean pie wastes if your only having 1/6th of the pack?

jennyhumphreyseyeliner · 25/10/2026 14:55

stillhiding1990 · 25/10/2026 14:54

How many grams of sugar and fat?

30 of fat, 75 of sugar but more than half of that comes from fruit and vegetables. So I’m not too concerned

Nope! It’ll be hard for other things, it freezes well so I’ll split it up and save some for some sausage rolls closer to Christmas, plus use another portion in the week
