To think this is a decent day of eating?

I have prepped food for tomorrow and my partner says it’s awful, but I think it’s decent!

Breakfast is baked oats - whey protein added and made with dark chocolate chips and some frozen raspberries. 420 calories and 33g of protein.

Lunch - chicken pie with baby potatoes. Lighter puff pastry used. 520 calories and 54g of protein.

Dinner - beef stew. Beef, potatoes, vegetables and gravy.

Snacks - light Greek yoghurt with stewed berries, and a packet of popchips.

Total - 1511 calories, 137g of protein and 37g of fibre.

I’m on a weight loss journey and will go to the gym before work tomorrow. I think it’s balanced, provides all my fruit and veg for the day (8 portions), hits my goals (im more worried about fibre than protein) and is genuinely tasty wholesome food.

YABU - this is unhealthy.

YANBU - it’s a good day of food.

It’s pretty good OP, the calories are low but as you’re losing weight that’s OK. I personally would add egg to baked oats instead of whey protein for a protein boost but I’m a whole foods advocate.

You’ve met your protein and fibre needs. 548 calories of your day (around 30%) has come directly from protein, your fats are unlikely to exceed 11% of calories from saturates, you’ve shot over the fibre recommendation.

The only thing I would say is you haven’t got enough fruit and veg. Raspberries can only count as 1 portion even if you have 2 (all 5 must be different types), potatoes don’t count. So you’ve only had maybe 2 portions. I’d add grated carrot to your baked oats (it’s like carrot cake) and swap the pop chips for an apple or banana. Add some vegetables on the side of your pie.

What does he say is wrong?

I’ve got eight portions of fruit and veg. One portion is 80g.

If the portions are hearty then I’m sure you’re underestimating. I would have a lighter lunch if I were on a weight loss journey.

Why assume she's underestimating? Do you think she's too thick to weigh and count her food?

What’s really frustrating is I’ve shown my food diary and I’m still being told I’m wrong 😂😂

I’m fat because I eat a lot of vegetables 😂 I’ve heard it all now

Yeah that's exactly what I said the overriding difference between fat and slim people is.

Vegetables 🙄

Yes I’m aware. You didn’t describe them in the Op. You only mentioned raspberries x 2 and vegetables in the stew.

melissasummerfield · 25/10/2026 15:48

If it fits your macros then its completely fine , please don’t listen to people clutching pearls over carbs! If you are hitting fibre and protein goals your carbs will naturally fall into line anyway! If you are on a long term weight loss plan you need to eat food that sustains you that you enjoy - not doing this is why so many dieters fail..

IStillHearTheWaves · 25/10/2026 15:48

ABOOO · 25/10/2026 15:31

It sounds pretty decent but it's a lot of food for one day.

Especially for someone who wants to lose weight.

That completely depends on the size of the pie though, it's not necessarily a lot of food.

SethAndReubenTooSendGaloshes · 25/10/2026 15:48

TheoreticallyAdult · 25/10/2026 14:58

That’s far too many carbs for me.

Oats, potatoes, popchips, pie crust.

I wouldn’t be able to lose weight with food like that.

Yes you would, if you were in a calorie deficit. Your body obeys the laws of thermodynamics just like everyone else's.

I’m not being funny but I’ve provided my entire food diary and you’re telling me it’s bad because it’s too “voluminous” but the majority of the volume is coming from lean protein, vegetables and whole foods. Why would I want to go hungry and put myself into a dangerous deficit when I can be satiated, and eat well?

Hey?

I’ve got raspberries in the baked oats, carrots and peas in the pie, carrots, peas and onions in the stew, and strawberries and raspberries with yoghurt.

I read it I just do not believe the scale you are using to determine your calorific input
eg
50g pastry = 200 + calories
potato- typically 100 calories

but if it is working for your good on you

Okay, if you want to argue with actual evidence that’s on you

Hey?

I’ve got raspberries in the baked oats, carrots and peas in the pie, carrots, peas and onions in the stew, and strawberries and raspberries with yoghurt.

Yes that’s good, if they’re all 80g then it’s great. I was saying you didn’t mention those in your post because you didn’t?

Anyway you’ve actually got 5 not 7. You can’t count the same type of vegetable or fruit twice. Even if you eat 160g of carrot that’s only one portion because each portion must be a different kind of F or V. That’s how it works because it’s pushing for variance in micronutrient intake.

So you have raspberry, strawberry, peas, carrots, onion (if 80g+ total each).

SethAndReubenTooSendGaloshes · 25/10/2026 15:51

ABOOO · 25/10/2026 15:34

I said it's a lot of food.

If I needed to lose weight, I'd probably skip the breakfast and snacks.

It's not always about the calories, and more about why you need so much volume.

Eating disorder rhetoric nonsense

Where are the other 3 from? I mean it doesn’t really matter because 5 is fine but you have not described 8.

This thread is full of performative under eaters and people who have zero clue about weight loss, muscle preservation, and satiety.

Ignore them.

Ex-lifter who used to weigh 146lbs and ate close to 2000 calories per day to maintain my muscle mass.

You’re doing great.

You can’t count the same fruit or vegetable more than once?

I think you’re confusing that with fruit juices.

Yeah I’d really rather a) be full and b) be able to use a toilet properly rather than be hungry and with 0 fibre!

Hellohelga · 25/10/2026 15:57

Sounds like a lot of food. Are you sure it’s 1500 cal? Seems like more.
