To think this is a decent day of eating?

I have prepped food for tomorrow and my partner says it’s awful, but I think it’s decent!

Breakfast is baked oats - whey protein added and made with dark chocolate chips and some frozen raspberries. 420 calories and 33g of protein.

Lunch - chicken pie with baby potatoes. Lighter puff pastry used. 520 calories and 54g of protein.

Dinner - beef stew. Beef, potatoes, vegetables and gravy.

Snacks - light Greek yoghurt with stewed berries, and a packet of popchips.

Total - 1511 calories, 137g of protein and 37g of fibre.

I’m on a weight loss journey and will go to the gym before work tomorrow. I think it’s balanced, provides all my fruit and veg for the day (8 portions), hits my goals (im more worried about fibre than protein) and is genuinely tasty wholesome food.

YABU - this is unhealthy.

YANBU - it’s a good day of food.

Sounds like a lot of food. Are you sure it’s 1500 cal? Seems like more.

Read. My. Posts.

I also struggle with your cal count, between breakfast lunch and your snacks you’re at 1140 cals, which means your beef stew dinner is 390 cals.

it must be a tiny portion of beef stew and potato and veg and gravy to come in at that,

I am not having a go at you- I am just commenting as others who want to lose weight might look at what you are saying you are eating and think chicken pie wey hey

Edited

Yeah and they could look and see how they can make swaps (veg stock over white sauce, light puff pastry over normal) and still enjoy a meal they like?

I’ve provided an entire breakdown so I don’t know why you’re questioning it 😂

Hilarious that people think 1500 calories is too much food

canklesmctacotits · 25/10/2026 15:59

If that comes to 1500cals, your portions are smaller than I’d need to subsist 😂. I personally only eat real food and don’t give a shit about protein grams etc so can’t be doing with half fat this and protein powder that, but otherwise it sounds tasty and varied and interesting. And I’d have three hot meals a day if I could 😂

I find it sad. People are telling me to skip breakfast after an hour and twenty minutes working out!

really great! And satiating

but you will consume 6 portions of different fruit and veg in a day rather than 8 - still amazing though.

They are meant to be different.

I’ve shown my calorie count? How is it not real food? All I’ve done is add a scoop of protein powder to my baked oats (because I’d much rather supplement protein than anything else)

You can’t count the same fruit or vegetable more than once?

I think you’re confusing that with fruit juices.

It’s what I was taught at university for a nutrition module but you’re right that it’s not currently what the NHS goes by - they now just say it should be from a variety of sources. Apologies OP, maybe that advice has been updated.

And it’s bollocks.

I’d not eat a pie with potatoes and then stew. I’d defo not eat the breakfast.

not sure what type of journey you’re on but it wouldn’t be one that suited me.

Says who!!

My university lecturer who was a registered dietitian. Seems it’s the best practice advice and not the people facing advice. It’s good that this conversation happened so I could learn from it.

@jennyhumphreyseyeliner somewhat irritated by this thread tbh.

You are obviously, doing fantastically on your weight loss journey and are following a regimen that absolutely works for you. That, is all that's important.

I can only suggest that you could lose an instantaneous ~154 lbs if you shed... your partner!!

Are they jealous? Too much other attention?

Total support for you, bloody well done. 💪 😊

The type where she's lost 9 stone, eats 3 square meals, works out 5 days a week and eats tasty food that she enjoys? One that works in other words? That wouldn't be for you? Ok

moominontherun · 25/10/2026 16:03

It’s fine, OP, you’ve got a lot of bang for your buck! These threads always attract weird comments. I can’t understand people continually going on about it being too much food when the calorie count is literally there. And volume eating is a good thing, you want volume to increase satiety. If it’s a lot of food for 1500 calories then that’s great!

See I am not alone in having being taught this though!

You’re being questioned because you asked people to analyse your diet…

LittleSoo · 25/10/2026 16:06

You are doing amazing! In winter I have only hot meals 😂 no such thing as too many hot meals. I try to do the same as you, volume eating with lots of veg to bulk out the meal but keeps it lower in calories and then smother it in hot sauce for flavour

Sunbringer · 25/10/2026 16:06

I didn’t ask them to analyse it. I provided proof and people are still saying i’m wrong, when it’s there in black and white!

When you lose a lot of weight it can affect your relationships with family and friends. A friend of mine went really odd when I lost a lot at one point. This appears to be your DH’s way of putting you down and is something you may need to address at some point.

You obviously know what you are doing so don’t doubt yourself and keep on doing it, well done!

MissSold · 25/10/2026 16:09

If he doesn’t want to eat it, I will! All sounds banging!

MakingPlans2025 · 25/10/2026 16:11

Tbh I think it’s probably not enough food if you are training every day and doing 10k plus steps (I suspect I know which plan you’re following ) Are you still losing? Or have you plateaued.
But in answer to the question about your partner he’s clearly a knob/jealous/weird . “Too many hot meals” is a stupid take and “too many carbs” is an amber flag 😂
