Picture the scene: me, an absolute genius, carrying metal extension ladders up the stairs and propping them against the wall in the kids' bedroom. My mission was to hang one of those net hammocks designed to take a load of teddies.
Naturally, things went wrong immediately. When I lost my balance and reached out to steady myself, slapping my hand directly onto the Portable 16x Cube Modular Storage Wardrobe.
Big mistake.
Next thing I know, thud, pain and I’m horizontal on the floor, buried under an apocalyptic avalanche of 16 plastic cubes crammed with every piece of children’s clothing known to humanity, snapping plastic connectors, and stray metal rods raining down on me like the World Trade Center collapse.
I was totally pinned. The weight was pressing so hard against my neck, pushing it into my chest.
And how did my partner respond to my cries from beneath the rubble?
Did he dive in with his bare hands, to save his beloved?
No.
He casually wandered in, looked at the mess Id madd, and started slowly picking up a handful of clothes on hangers — taking them over to lay them neatly on our bed in the other room.
If the roles had been reversed? I would have dug him out with my bare hands right then and there. But no, I had to wait for him to finish his leisurely sorting process. The second I could move a muscle, I freed myself from my plastic/metal prison.
That day, I learned a several life lessons - I tell you, which was a bit of a shock, considering the whole ordeal and I was 45 years old.
My coccyx, right hip, right arm and shoulder and neck hurt for weeks after that but only minor surface bruising. I never went to hospital, my partner insisted Id been fine and Id listen as I was in shock! but I should have gone! If roles were reversed or it happened to one of our kids Id have been up that hospital with them like a shot!
Public safety announcement, modular cube wardrobes aren't suitable for children's bedroom and are actually pretty dangerous!
