To be a bit miffed at my friend’s idea of a ‘takeaway night’ tomorrow

My friend is kindly hosting a night for me and two others, a girly catch up.

When suggested we agreed on getting a takeaway and consensus from earlier this week was to get an Indian, and we earmarked the specific takeaway we’d order from.

My friend hosting has messaged to say she has picked up a ‘deal‘ from the supermarket this afternoon so she has got some ready meal curries and sides and said we can sort the money out on the night.

First world problem I know, but a supermarket ready meal doesn’t really hit the spot compared to a proper Indian takeaway so I feel a bit annoyed! She didn’t check with us before.

That would annoy me too! YANBU.

Pinkflamingo10 · 22/10/2026 18:34

supermarket ready meals ??!! Definitely not anything like a genuine Indian takeaway feast.

Ohhelpwhatnow · 22/10/2026 18:34

It's annoying in a first world kind of way. Pay up this time but ask her not to do it again next time she hosts.

Askandyforcompo · 22/10/2026 18:36

It depends where from. M and S is probably better than some takeaways.

Tryingtothinkofausername · 22/10/2026 18:36

Is she short of cash for a takeaway but could stretch to a supermarket meal deal?

IeatPotNoodles · 22/10/2026 18:37

Maybe she’s skint

onmylastnerveseriously · 22/10/2026 18:37

This is devastating, and the poster who thinks m and s is similar must never have had proper curry.

Netcurtainnelly · 22/10/2026 18:38

Does it matter. Surely your looking forward to get together regardless of the food

owlpassport · 22/10/2026 18:38

Just say 'oh thanks but I'm looking forward to a takeaway from xyz so I'll order in, but if you'd prefer to cook that's fine!'. I know she's hosting and it's a little rude, but not as rude as buying supermarket food and expecting you to pay for it.

ThatCyanCat · 22/10/2026 18:39

Yeah, that won't hit the spot but I don't think there's anything you can do about it, sadly.

Walkerzoo · 22/10/2026 18:39

Was she going to buy the takeaway?

If so, them it wouldn't bother me as we are all skint at the minute. If yous were all chipping in, then again not sure if I would be bothered. Money is tight

No idea. But I’ve had the M&S ones before and wasn’t impressed.

No, we’ll have all paid for our own.

I’d reply ‘ I was really looking forward to ….(name of place you initially chose).’ Id prefer to stick to that.’ And see where it goes. I’m sure the rest feel the same way. She’ll learn she can’t make unilateral decisions for a group

babasaclover · 22/10/2026 18:40

Yeah I wouldn’t be going oven food is shit

JustNodSmileAgree · 22/10/2026 18:41

Yes that’s bad. The rice in those taste as I’d imagine washing up liquid to taste. I wouldn’t be happy with that either.

Maybe she’s skint though.

Wewillmeetagainoneday · 22/10/2026 18:41

I would have thought the get together with your pals and the catch up was the main point of the evening? Surely what you eat is only secondary?

Absobeautely · 22/10/2026 18:41

Say you'll order your own food, thanks.

Trying to get people to pay her for shitty ready meals is ridiculous.
To a previous poster, yes, food matters, of course. Most people like it and would look forward to a delicious planned meal.

IkaBaar · 22/10/2026 18:42

I’d be disappointed as I love naan from a takeaway/restaurant, shop bought is not the same.

The others haven't even been mentioned . Maybe they don't mind.

It's not worth falling out over.

It's perfectly normal to want a catch up and good food.

UbiquitousPistachio · 22/10/2026 18:44

It’s shit because it wasn’t what was agreed plus who knows what she bought from the supermarket? She has taken away everyone’s choice completely. Really selfish of her.

5289843DM · 22/10/2026 18:44

'That's fine, you enjoy your supermarket one, I was looking forward to an actual take away so will be ordering that. Looking forward to see you all'

Fizbosshoes · 22/10/2026 18:45

I sympathise!
DH often suggests a takeaway pizza but then says hes going to pick some up in the supermarket.
He has been told by me and DC multiple times, this is not the same and to stop using the word takeaway to give us false hope!!

Hyroplate · 22/10/2026 18:45

I actually think I prefer a decent quality ready meal curry to a lot of takeaways. I accept they're not authentic, but neither is a takeaway and they're usually a lot less greasy.
