To take myself off for lunch on my own today?

Its my Birthday, been up with DH for hours, had breakfast together, walked the dogs and he hasn't even said 'Happy Birthday'

Have two adult DD's, both that live a couple of hours away, neither of them have messaged me to say 'Happy Birthday' either. Both will be up and at work by now too.

Just makes me feel pretty shit as I always make sure its the first thing I do, or say, or message to my family when its theirs. I always make sure I make a bit of a fuss of them.

For no-one to even acknowledge by Birthday by 10.30am has just made me feel proper rubbish.

I am a good mum, and a good wife.

Shall I go out for lunch by myself or am I just being a bit of a baby and need to suck it up?

Its just another Birthday after all.

Have your daughters sent you a card and/or gift? I have to say, I don't consider the time I send a happy birthday text important - on my own birthday I quite enjoy getting texts through the day rather than all at 7am. Your husband has been useless though. I hope you have a lovely lunch with a big piece of cake for pudding.

My dh ruined my 40th..he was an exh before I was 41
.
Everybody is entitled to have their day acknowledged imo .

Interestingnamesuggestion · Yesterday 10:54

Has DH forgotten and needs a gentle reminder? Going out by yourself without saying anything seems a bit passive aggressive and is likely to make both you and him feel worse about it later on.

CardboardScott · Yesterday 10:55

I never understand how this happens.

We’d always have a conversation in the lead up to one of our birthdays, discussing how to celebrate, my DH would be in touch with the D.C. to see if they were free to visit, meet up at the weekend nearest etc.

I just don’t understand how this happens.

TheSmellOfSea · Yesterday 10:55

Happy Birthday! 🎂

Bit shit. Hopefully they remember later.

Bring home a nice cake just for yourself and don't give h any.

Tbh I would have reminded DP before the day!

Yes, We make a big deal of birthdays in the run up. Dont know why people keep quiet about their own birthdays

PetulaGordeno · Yesterday 10:56

Go and treat yourself and Happy Birthday.
I think they are a shower of shits, by the way.

Yeah same here.

I sometimes wonder if those who don't talk about it are 'testing' their family somehow.

Whereas in reality, sometimes we just forget things.

Jk987 · Yesterday 10:57

You’re more than a wife and Mum, you’re a person in your own right, don’t ever forget that. Message a good friend and meet them for lunch. Happy Birthday OP

Happy Birthday 🥳 Go and treat yourself - on my 40th everyone had to work and I was on my own so I went to an antique shop and bought myself something then ate a bag of chips in my car 😁 Have a nice day

Bishbashbuush · Yesterday 10:59

Happy birthday 🥳

It really sucks when your nearest and dearest forget your birthday. Especially when you always make the effort for them. It’s even more irritating when you know they’d be upset too if it was the other way around.

”Since it’s my birthday today, you can take me out and treat me to a nice lunch!” is what I’d say, and hope for some grovelling and plenty of fuss to make up for him forgetting.

I hope your day turns around and gets much better!

Happy birthday! Go and get a delicious lunch and treat yourself to something lovely, and don’t feel guilty.
i took myself out for breakfast on my birthday and often do, sometimes do things either others but it normally falls on a weekday so I just do my thing and enjoy it.
if you have friends maybe try and organise drinks or food with someone for this weekend or next xx

A text is free and takes 2 minutes!

Do you think they're actually sitting there at work, knowing it's their mum's birthday and deliberately refusing to text her?

Or do you think they may have forgotten and at some point it'll dawn on them?

Happy birthday! Cake Flowers

Yes you should go and treat yourself! There are some apps like Costa, Greggs, Morrisons etc where you get a free cake or treat on your birthday. Look them up and get as many as you can!
For my birthday this year I went for a massage then had a hot chocolate and cake in Costa. Picked up other free treats as well!

Happy Birthday @ThereIsSomethingWrongWithTheLeftFilange ❤️🎊🥂🎂

If it were me, I'd ask my husband why he has not acknowledged my birthday and depending on his answer (basically allowing for possibility of poorly executed big surprise) I would tell him that my feelings are hurt and I'm going to take myself out for lunch to get some space.

With your DC, I'd give a little more grace as they may well be thinking to call you tonight or in the mad morning rush it has temporarily slipped their minds. If they don't message or call this evening, I think I'd leave it, but gently raise it in person next time you see them. Not to have a row, but to let them know that you're a person with feelings and that next year you'd really love a message/call/flowers whatever you want. That isn't being demanding, it is just asking for them to recognise you and that is a healthy thing for all concerned.
I dropped the ball horribly on my mum's 60th. I'd just moved city a few days before and I didn't organise a card or present in time and then I forgot to call until late evening. I know how hurt she was by her tone. I made it up to her the following week with a gift and a card with a list of 60 Amazing Achievements in 60 years, which she loved, but I did feel horribly guilty and I'm glad she didn't try to pretend everything was fine when she was wounded.

Bimblepops · Yesterday 11:04

Happy birthday, OP. It's not "just another birthday", it's supposed to be a day to celebrate you. Really crappy behaviour from your family and friend, I'm so sorry that this has happened.

Absolutely take yourself out for a delicious birthday lunch - I love taking a book with me and just losing myself. Perhaps buy yourself a nice present, seeing as they haven't bothered.

Happy birthday from me, OP. Sorry nobody around you has said it yet.

What normally happens? Is this the first time everyone has seemingly forgotten?

Gentle reminder - that is cringeworthy. Why gentle? So as not to hurt his feelings? Seriously. 😧

Itiswhysofew · Yesterday 11:08

Yeah! Just say to him, "I'm off out for my birthday lunch now. Might see you later.". And go. Don't let him start with excuses.

Happy birthday to you😊

teaandabun · Yesterday 11:09

The day is still young with regard to your daughters but I’d be annoyed if my husband had not acknowledged my birthday after a morning together. I’d go out shopping and have a lovely lunch on my own. I’d say nothing about my birthday and wait to see when it’s remembered.

DinoLil · Yesterday 11:10

Happy birthday!! Do whatever makes you happy.

Because my memory isn't always perfect and this is how I would like to be treated. I would be mortified when I realised I'd forgotten.

I don't think I've ever forgotten immediate family's birthdays before but I have forgotten about other significant days.

WinterBlues26 · Yesterday 11:13

Happy Birthday 🍰

Go out for your birthday lunch, then spend the afternoon buying yourself something that you've always wanted but thought the money was wasted on it, eg character hot bottle, or a new mug, or heated blanket etc. Then on the way home swing by a supermarket and buy yourself some flowers a lovely birthday cake and a sparkler candle. DH can pay for a takeout or phone up a restaurant (or he goes without). Put yourself first today Flowers

Happy Birthday OP. I hope something lovely happens later.
