To take myself off for lunch on my own today?

Its my Birthday, been up with DH for hours, had breakfast together, walked the dogs and he hasn't even said 'Happy Birthday'

Have two adult DD's, both that live a couple of hours away, neither of them have messaged me to say 'Happy Birthday' either. Both will be up and at work by now too.

Just makes me feel pretty shit as I always make sure its the first thing I do, or say, or message to my family when its theirs. I always make sure I make a bit of a fuss of them.

For no-one to even acknowledge by Birthday by 10.30am has just made me feel proper rubbish.

I am a good mum, and a good wife.

Shall I go out for lunch by myself or am I just being a bit of a baby and need to suck it up?

Its just another Birthday after all.

Your children have until the end of the day to acknowledge your birthday. Expecting a morning call is ridiculous.

Your husband is the only person who messed up here.

They are not children though, they are adults, and I don't think its much to expect them to send me a quick text, which takes less than 30 seconds, to say Happy Birthday Mum!

Why do I have to be the last thing they think about, like an after thought, that they acknowledge later?

Can I not expect better than that?

Are you feeling alright? What's the joke?

The joke is that you're calling an adults birthday "Their special day" like it's a wedding or something. It's childish.

Birthdays are a nice excuse to go out for dinner or something but certainly not special after you've grown up. If someone asked me when my special day was I would think they were asking about my wedding or my graduation ceremony or receiving some sort of award.

Bloody hell OP I've just bought my own birthday cake and candles for Sunday, which I will light alone, and blow out alone.

And then eat the whole thing alone over the week.

I though that was bad enough but your DH is giving a poor show here. I suspect you feel even lonlier than me!

ps Happy Birthday xxx

Happy Birthday for Sunday!

Sorry Filange, but you are working yourself up here.
If you message them, they will reply. Yes, you shouldn't have to ask them and you can have that conversation at a later date, and tell them your expectations.
Problem solved. You can carry on with your birthday feeling better and less upset with your DDs.

If you wait and wait to make it more egregious then that's just blowing this into a really big deal, and that is what will be making your birthday worse, not them.

What is more, they might resent that you waited all day before contacting them - just to see how bad it would get, so they'd be in more trouble.

They are your DDs, just message them and end this.

Hopefulsalmon · Yesterday 17:54

Happy Bithday!
It's thoughtless and crap they've forgotten. I don't think I'd be overly lightheated when you message them either.

squarecrow · Yesterday 17:54

My DH often doesn’t get messages from his family until after they’ve finished work and their dinner etc. I see that you have a very particular way of expressing love on people’s birthdays, but I don’t think it’s healthy to assume that anyone who does it differently “doesn’t care enough”.

Their special day 😂

What’s funny about a birthday being a special day for someone? Weird people on this thread.

YourTidyGreyRobin · Yesterday 18:03

MumsTheWordYouKnow · Yesterday 17:45

You’ve spent your entire day moaning about this on here. I sympathised with the first post, but seriously. Just weird. Maybe your daughters have both got things going on or they’ve both forgotten. Is this the first time?

You sound bitter. I'm betting everyone forgets your birthday coz they cant be arsed with you.

Don't be so fucking miserable, some of us (at 57) still love birthdays and spoiling those we love on theirs.
Don't piss on other people's fun

I will always acknowledge a loved ones birthday asap. If I can't talk to them first thing, I will message them a happy birthday and call them later in the day.

No, I’m fortunate. Never had that happen. But if I did. I wouldn’t waste my day moaning about it on mumsnet. I’d text my kids and check they’re OK before I made assumptions, then give a gentle nudge, same with partner. Shit happens. The OP had literally posted that many times and ruminated all day, it’s just weird and very unhealthy.

Precisely. Speak to them direct. It speaks of a lack of emotional intelligence all this moaning on here all day.

@ThereIsSomethingWrongWithTheLeftFilange

Happy birthday 🥳

And my mother & I have locked heads on more than one occasion but I have never once not wished her a happy birthday in a text or call or in person first thing on her birthday, regardless of what I had going on at the time whether that was work or newborns or toddlers.

I'd send them a reminder text for next year since they obviously need one & say no more.

Yes it's nice to spoil and be spoiled, obviously. But calling it your special day? Really? Do you call yourself the birthday girl unironically too?

AltitudeCheck · Yesterday 18:37

I love the idea of sending a passive aggressive calendar invite just before bed, or 1st thing tomorrow to your DD.

They will be mortified (I hope!) when they realise their cock up.

Happy birthday 🎂 OP and have a lovely meal out tomorrow x

TerrysCIockworkOrange · Yesterday 18:44

I hope you’ve heard from your DC now @ThereIsSomethingWrongWithTheLeftFilange but if not you are absolutely entitled to tell them they’ve hurt you and let you down and I literally cannot believe the moronic posts saying otherwise!
If I forgot my DMs birthday (never!) I would not only expect a telling off I’d absolutely eat it and feel every ounce of embarrassment and shame I deserved for forgetting the woman who raised me! Some of you lot are so ridiculous it’s beyond belief

There is always one isn't there 🙄

Actually I am that important 😝

You, however, are not

Go play on the motorway.

This is the kinda fighting spirit you need with your family

TerrysCIockworkOrange · Yesterday 18:47

@SerenaCat93 with your overall demeanour I’m quite sure you’re already very used to people forgetting your birthday 😂

What on earth are you rambling on about? At least have the sense to quote the post that you’re correcting!

Do you not know how the quote system works? I can explain it to you, but it’s pretty simple.

Silly you!
