You’re not going to want to listen to me, but you must.

Please take your bag of salt and vinegar crisps and put them in the freezer for a few hours.

Enjoy a bowl of them straight from the freezer.

Please report back with your findings.

Let me put you out of your misery. I put S&V in the freezer earlier along with a pack of cheese and onion as an experiment. As an afterthought I had a pack of barbecue beef hula hoops so chucked them in too. Verdict ? Cheese and onion works for me. Sharpens up the flavour into a little explosion on your tongue !! The S&V were a bit harsh and I felt as though the vinegar was burning my tongue. The hula hoops don’t work - mine were damp and not as crisp. I think they might be too thick.

Ah thanks for that then, sounds like I would have just ruined my hula hoops. Might try some regular crisps over the next few days though.

This also works with cheese and onion crisps, to be eaten with a dairy milk chocolate bar...I don't make the rules.

@Twiglets1. I’m sure you won’t regret it!

Twiglets in tomato soup is a genius idea

Yeah and still remains chewable.

But don’t try it with a flake (explodes when you bite) or a curly whirly (chocolate cracks and crumbles on you while you try to get through the caramel/toffee)

You need to freeze the curly whirly and then smack it on the edge of the counter still in the packet to break it into bite size pieces!

Or buy the little bits in a bag and freeze that. They're so good.

God they look even worse than they must taste.

Omg genius! Next time for sure. I usually just avoid that when the father in law’s freezer chocolates come out. Now I know :)

I’ve got salt and vinegar discos downstairs. It’s too late now but I’m going to try tomorrow. Not sure if they’re the right consistency though. What a thread!

ChristmasGreyhound · 13/10/2026 21:52

Nooo, I've just weaned myself off Coop salt and vinegar crisps as I was addicted and would wake up bloated and puffy from all the salt 😭

I may need to come out of retirement for this.

GeneralWaste · 13/10/2026 22:05

Thanks op, any excuse to buy some crisps! I’ve had the Co-op Chardonnay ones in the freezer since lunchtime. Honestly, they were just err cold crisps? Super tasty although not sure freezing added anything. DH has just scoffed a bowl and didn’t even notice. I’m going to finish the pack in the interests of science though.

Well, this has livened up my day. We’ve been very impressed with ourselves for putting Twirls in the freezer lately, this is an exciting addition!

Ooh yeah! I put Galaxy Ripples in my freezer. Now I'm considering almost everything to try in there!

frankie001 · 13/10/2026 23:19

Am going to tuck a Tunnocks tea cake into the freezer before I go to bed. Will update!

712oohahh · 13/10/2026 23:27

Just jumping in to offer up a recipe, which doesn't involve anything frozen, but is just AMAZING. I've tried so many combinations of things over the years and nothing comes close.

Is the "two minstrels, one red jelly baby" combination. Nothing else comes close. All three in the mouth at once, and just chomp.

May I appauld the level of committment that people have shown on this thread. It reminds me of the good old days of MN 😁

Does it work with Pringles?

Milky bar buttons sharing bags are amazing straight out of the freezer, I use to put all my weekly ration in before I started dieting.

That's new! I do refrigerate the chocolate digestives - but never tried them frozen!

Oh, do! I can't stand S&V crisps, but frozen chocolate digestives are the business. Also frozen Mars bars and those mini chocolate Swiss rolls.

Pinklightning · Yesterday 04:07

Frozen Maltesers. Amazing. Frozen homemade chocolate brownies are divine. So chewy and satisfying. I like my chocolate cold.

@XenoBitch I remember Puffs. They were made by Burtons. Google says they’ve been discontinued - apparently they used specialised Italian pasta machines to make them and they were dismantled in 2000 to make way for a shortbread packing hall !! I remember Burtons ‘fish n chips too’. Can’t find any reference to them though.

Burton's Fish and Chips are £1 for a 5-pack in my local Iceland. Thinking about it that's practically begging for them to be used in a freezer experiment.

I haven't had a frozen Cadbury mini roll since my DCs left home. This needs to be rectified.

I swear, this time next week none of my clothes will fit and it'll all be this thread's fault.

As someone who has struggled with
binge eating on snacks I love all these freezer recommendations, because for some reason if something is in the freezer I am less likely to binge on it.

I think it’s partly because there’s only so much very cold/frozen stuff I can eat in one go, whereas I’ll happily munch on endless amounts of room temperature snacks. 😆
