You’re not going to want to listen to me, but you must.

Please take your bag of salt and vinegar crisps and put them in the freezer for a few hours.

Enjoy a bowl of them straight from the freezer.

Please report back with your findings.

I’m about to blow your mind …

… they also make a PLAIN chocolate version !!

Absolutely scrumptious 🤤

Stop it! Absolutely outstanding news.

Does it change the taste of walkers salt and vinegar because they are now absolutely vile, so strong and chemically tasting

Swissmeringue · 13/10/2026 17:34

My husband has just asked if cheese and onion are enhanced from a stint in the freezer 😂

I can't stand salt and vinegar crisps but I love cheese and onion ones. I was wondering if they'd benefit from this treatment too?

Tallestone · 13/10/2026 17:56

Oh yessssss!

My favourite salt and vinegar crisp tip is to eat them with the smallest amount of bournville chocolate in each bite. It’s amazing. Also works with ready salted

For those heading to the coop have a look for the pickled gerkin crisps. They are limited edition so not sure how long they are around for but I bet they would be good in the freezer.

Goldensprat · 13/10/2026 19:07

Am definitely going to try this at the weekend with my cheese and onion crisps, thanks for the tip!

If you haven't tried freezing grapes, this is also highly recommended👌 They become like little balls of sorbet.

They would be good in the bin.

I like crisps A LOT. But come on, pickled gerkin shouldn't be a flavour.

I learned this working in a bar when I was 18, lived on those little treasures for a whole summer

XenoBitch · 13/10/2026 19:24

I must try this with Discos

hby9628 · 13/10/2026 19:39

Hmm ... I guess I'll have to try one to find out but it will bring me no pleasure (probably)

Guess what I was snacking on when I started my MN account.

It wasn't frozen crisps.

I think Twiglets would be nice warmed up.

Can anyone remember Puffs? They were little tube type crisps. The beef ones were amazing nuked in the microwave for a bit.

Are pickled onion crisps still going ? I would imagine pickled gherkin wouldn’t be much different. I always thought pickled onion were more or less a slightly oniony version of salt and vinegar.

Agree. Mine went damp and very unpleasant. I think they’re cut too thick to work.

I tried them earlier. Definitely works - sharpens the flavour.

I will try this.

I would like to share in return that frozen millionaire’s shortbread is wonderful. I’ve only done it with my own homemade one, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with a bought one.

OMG that sounds divine !! Our Morrisons bakery do a decent millionaires shortbread so it’s on the shopping list.

@XenoBitch I remember Puffs. They were made by Burtons. Google says they’ve been discontinued - apparently they used specialised Italian pasta machines to make them and they were dismantled in 2000 to make way for a shortbread packing hall !! I remember Burtons ‘fish n chips too’. Can’t find any reference to them though.

Yep, they have not been around for years. They were 10p a pack.
We nuked them after getting a microwave for the first time (and we nuked everything to see what it was like). We turned the kitchen light off and stood in awe at the little lit up dish of Puffs slowly spinning in the microwave. We also misjudged it the first time, and melted a plastic bowl 😆
