You’re not going to want to listen to me, but you must.

Please take your bag of salt and vinegar crisps and put them in the freezer for a few hours.

Enjoy a bowl of them straight from the freezer.

Please report back with your findings.

Do you leave them at all after taking out of the freezer or eat straight away?

Oh no, you must consume right away!! So have your show ready paused and drink poured before fetching the bowl of crisps xx

We need a diagram spreadsheet

Actually tempted to scrap the rest of my work this afternoon to make this spreadsheet

I’m going to the Co-Op after work 👀 the Chardonnay vinegar crisps are my ultimate fave and they ALREADY take the skin off the inside of my mouth so I am expecting to have a truly numinous experience.

Oh this is fantastic news!! Thank you for giving it a go 😁 I am certain you will love it, who needs skin inside their mouth anyway

Now I want crisps and peanut M&Ms... from the freezer... but I can't because I'm at stupid old work!

Uricon2 · 13/10/2026 13:15

Does bag size matter? I think the Co-op chardonnay are a large size but perhaps not.

Following with the most intense interest and updating shopping order. I love S&V but am going with pickled onion crisps to further the research model.

Size of bag does not matter imo. I buy big bags and keep in the freezer for a week or two. Some posters have suggested 2 hours freezing is the perfect window but I honestly think it’s still good for many days xx

I sadly went off crisps about a year ago ( don't buy them now but will still eat if a handful is given with a cafe sandwich ) but I'm strangely invested in people's opinion .

Love this thread 😂

Watch me scamper into the kitchen to search for crisps to freeze.

Do you have anything freezing? 👀

In the rare event you can’t finish a large bag in one sitting, can you re-freeze or will they go soggy?

Oh good question, I haven’t tried tbh. I reckon portion out a bowl you know you will eat and go back for more if needed rather than a refreeze job.

Tunnock snowballs are also great in the freezer.

I currently have a busted lip (thanks toddler) so I will have to wait to try this, I love salt and vinegar but they are never zingy enough for me!

zebrapig · 13/10/2026 14:22

Why did I discover this mid way through my S&V crisps?!
Luckily there is a cupboard stash so I’ve popped a bag in the freezer to rest after my afternoon meetings…

tiptoptoemaytoe · 13/10/2026 14:24

As a life long S&V fan, I’ve never tried this but just put a bag in the freezer for after. Also, if you wanna rip your mouth to shreds with extra zingyness, you must try the 7 Continents Salt and Vinegar Ridged Crisps. I get a potato sack sized bag from Costco for £5. (Thank me later).

I will add these to my shopping list. Need a pick me up

BCBird · 13/10/2026 14:31

Ooh love salt and vinegar peanuts

Cuppachuchu · 13/10/2026 14:33

@FullOfLemons I have a very sharp, very thin bladed knife that does the trick. Also good for cakes with nuts/ other chunky bits.
Might be a Kitchen devil brand? 🤔

Twogonksandapencil · 13/10/2026 14:33

I am going to try this later! As we are sharing very important crisp research, I hope OP doesnt mind me sharing my own research study, which has shown that eating a bag of cheese and onion and a bag of S&V together results in a sort of DIY pickled onion flavour, but a bit milder. You can just mix the two bags together in a bowl for a more random effect, or, as I like to do, keep the bags separate and take one crisp of each flavour and eat them at the same time, so you get the maximum taste combination throughout.
You're welcome!

Sixtygoingonthirty · 13/10/2026 14:37

We’re not usually a S&V household but I’ve just found a random pack of Tesco s&v with a BB date of 27 June ‘26. Wish me luck 🤞

NotAtMyAge · 13/10/2026 14:39

I'm afraid the only place for salt and vinegar crisps is in the bin, if some have managed to find their way into your house. 😉

AngelicInnocent · 13/10/2026 14:46

Going to try this this evening. However, I can confirm that slicing Mars bars, milky ways and snickers bars into a container, sealing it and popping it into the freezer makes for a delightful lucky dip chocolate experience when you just need a bit of something!

Calliopespa · 13/10/2026 14:47

DeftGoldHedgehog · 13/10/2026 12:30

I don't get why people like any chocolate from the fridge, unless you have to put it there when it's warm, it just impairs the flavour for me.

Agree. Chocolate should be room temperature - and in fact improves with a moment in the mouth.

Anyone tried the crisps yet?

Tunnock snowballs are also great in the freezer.

Holy shit! As if they couldn't get any better.

I have recently rediscovered the Co op S&V crisps and was so excited to eat them last weekend. I had better buy another bag for the freezer 😀

That I have less trouble envisaging.
