Aibu to eat in the cinema?

I’ve seen loads of people on mumsnet complaining about people eating on the cinema, while watching the film.

In my opinion it’s always been completely normal and acceptable to buy food to eat with the movie. Usually popcorn, sweets, some cinemas even sell hotdogs and nachos and serve a beer.

Aibu to think it’s very normal and fine to eat while watching the movie and that most people do it?

Wow who took the jam out of your doughnut.

I doubt a donut fits into their almost mum diet.

Fortunately for the cinema goers amongst us almost mums don't live very long as they don't consume the calories required to live a long life, not have the enjoyment of it

Yes. It's horrible, and very distracting.
The only thing worse is eating in the theatre, because that distracts the performers, as well as the audience.

GOSH WHY CANT PEOPLE EAT SOUP AT THE CINEMA

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · Yesterday 22:28

Although I accept that people want to eat popcorn and sweets at the cinema, I do find all the chomping and rustling really distracting. I’ve actually stopped going to the cinema as I can’t concentrate on the film with all the noise. I just pay to watch the film on my TV at home.

Your original post inferred that it was something people were expected to do. No, I didn’t say you said it was compulsory. I was pointing out that it is not mandatory.
And I not issuing a ‘rebuttal’, but simply expressing my view from the post you made.
Cinemas will be alright. They could offer an eating area outside of the actual screening.
Anyway, the amount and smell of food in cinemas here is not generally well liked at all. Perhaps if they sold less more people would actually go.

Nobody said buying concessions was mandatory, so I'm not sure why you keep arguing that. I'm simply pointing out that concessions are a major source of revenue for movie theaters, particularly in the US. And personally, I would never go to a movie theater where I wasn't allowed to eat during the movie. Getting popcorn, snacks, and drinks has been part of the moviegoing experience for decades. That's part of the appeal for a lot of people. You're welcome to dislike it, but suggesting theaters should just sell less food and that somehow more people would start going is a pretty ridiculous business strategy. I can assure you that plenty of people would be far less interested in going to the movies if they couldn't enjoy their popcorn while watching them. 😂
