To not be able to like Traitors?

Traitor8er · Yesterday 09:17

I can't be alone surely? Tried to watch as there's some interesting people in series 2. I didn't watch 1st series. Maybe that's the issue?
I just couldn't see the appeal?
It's obviously massive.

Should I keep watching as otherwise I'm missing a fantastic series?

I love Traitors and I think its the only show I've seen where I prefer the celeb version. The fact they know each other means they don't just vote of the brown or ND people first, and agree with PP about not having the tedious back story bits.

Think Miranda is the dark horse in this series, she's been on the nose about a few things and I think people are underestimating her.

Miranda was in a right huff about James Blunt and made herself look stupid. Just laugh it off it's what it's all about apparently, she then mimicked Hannah when she said 'the clever people go first'.
Think she sells the crazy goofball image but seems to take herself far too seriously unfortunately.

Your post is exactly the reason why OP asked if it's OK not to like Traitors.

I don't like Traitors I don't see the point of it - or any reality TV for that matter. I don't like Strictly. I love ballet and contemporary modern dance. I think Strictly is tedious. I'm not interested in any of the shows you've listed.

But according to people like you I can't just dislike /have no interest in them I must be trying to make a point.

Edited

Not at all. There’s a difference between saying you don’t like it, or it’s not for you, and sneering about “moronic” programmes, trashy tv and so on.

Netcurtainnelly · Yesterday 13:40

Awful programme. Rather watch paint dry.

HedgerowD · Yesterday 13:41

I find it incredibly boring. I tried to watch it, got 2 episodes in and gave up. I don't watch any soaps or reality TV so maybe I don't have the same interest in the sleb versions of programs as I don't know who most of the people are.

MrsKateColumbo · Yesterday 13:42

It's a fun light hearted game show, it's nothing deep or amazing but it's nice to be able to chat about something a lot of people have watched rather than "have you seen x?" "No but have you seen y?" "No"

It reminds me of weekend tv in the 90s, Cosy and a bit silly.

I hugely prefer Alan Cummings to Claudia winkleman, I really liked the US celeb one as they "put on a show" a bit, now Richard is gone in finding this series a bit snooze.

PersonaNonFatta · Yesterday 13:52

Meh. The first celeb traitors was quite fun. We only watched because DD wanted to but it was enjoyable. This series, less so. There are too many comedians, none of whom are remotely funny!

BTW, Nick Mohammed was born in Britain to a Cypriot mother and Trinidadian father. On what planet would this make him “Asian”?

This is a sentence from a Guardian interview with Bella Ramsey

"When Ramsey got the first callback from Mazin and Druckmann, they joined the Zoom from their childhood bedroom."

WHO? Who was in their childhood bedroom? Mazin and Druckmann? Bella? Were Mazin and Druckmann in Bella's childhood bedroom? It makes everything so much more linguistically complicated than it needs to be.

Compare with "When Ramsey got the first callback from Mazin and Druckmann, she joined the Zoom from her childhood bedroom."

I know that's not the point of this thread, but it's an excellent example of why so-called gender-neutral pronouns obfuscate meaning.

I'm a retired editor and I agree with you. I worked on a YA novel with a they/them character and I had to read one paragraph three times before I worked out what was going on (similar to your example).
It's made more complicated by a new editing convention that if someone uses say he and them as pronouns, that you cycle these in alternate paragraphs. This goes against my training to a) make things consistent, and b) make it easy for the reader, because your primary objective is to communicate with your reader(s).
Sorry, this should be in Pedants' Corner!

If you’re not feeling it, you’re not feeling it OP. I wouldn’t worry about it. This series isn’t half as good as the first celebrity one imho. I feel it hasn’t really found its feet yet, I’ve found myself being a bit bored.

I agree this series isn't as good, the first one seemed friendlier somehow and everyone was having a laugh. This lot seem to be taking things a bit too seriously!

TB23 · Yesterday 14:13

You are definitely not alone. I don't watch any of this reality TV garbage.

I loved season 1. Struggled to get into this one but its better now Bella has gone, she really annoyed me.

Ross kemp was so funny when he thought he kept being murdered in plain sight 🤣

Same, I find Bella inexplicably annoying. Couldn’t watch The Worst Witch with my dds when they were little as she was so irritating. Feel the same about Julie so glad they have both gone ! I am not enjoying it as much as the last series, I think it would be better if Richard was still there and Hannah still a faithful.

But apparently doesn’t actually care that much, if others get it ‘wrong’.

So she calls herself "they" when she's talking about herself when she's not there.
And she doesn't mind if a taxi-driver calls her "she" to her face.. or to the other people in the taxi.

So I don't suppose Bella minds what pronoun someone uses online.

The American one, same castle is infinitely more entertaining.
Alan Cumming is an amazing host compared to Claudia

Gotta agree, i like Claudia but Alan Cumming is a much better host

If you don't watch soaps or reality tv I've no idea why you'd bother watching this?

It'd be like me saying I don't like nature programmes then criticising Autumn Watch.

For those of us who sometimes enjoy daft reality shows the issue is this is just so lacking in any kind of interesting chat, fun games or even the much talked about 'game playing'. Boring celebs sit around being boring and voting people off depending on which name has been mentioned most. That's it.

They need to up the game imo.

Sorry, this should be in Pedants' Corner!

A friend who teaches creative writing has noted a trend for students to concoct syntactically horrible sentences because they now see 'they/their' as an indication of a gender-fluid singular than a plural pronoun, so they write things like 'Max went for a walk with he and Alex's dog' rather than 'Max went for a walk with their dog.' (Yes, not even 'his and Casey's dog'...)

I think they are up late tbf so he was probably tired it doesn't get dark till 10 /11 that far North in May/June.so it is probably a long day,
he was quite jovial to begin with but he now walks like a broken sad man 😀

Poor james acaster. He's one of the very few people that might actually make me watch an episode. He's a complicated fella. If traitors break him i'm going to pelt the bbc with rabbit droppings - and i have A LOT of rabbit droppings.

Lomonald · Yesterday 14:58

BTW, Nick Mohammed was born in Britain to a Cypriot mother and Trinidadian father. On what planet would this make him “Asian”?

I knew he was Br@ittish i was one of the Pp talking about it i thought a poster was talking about Nick, i knew he was mixed race. And I had "Asian" in air quotes, his father was indo trinidadian so I wrongly assumed that they would identify as Asian/Indian.

seahorsessky · Yesterday 15:01

All reality TV could be said to be a bit ridiculous really. And no doubt cops will tell us detective dramas are, doctors will say the same about hospital ones. The point is nearly all TV is just entertainment, and I get that analysing it as if you're a cross between Kant, Freud and Vera doesn't work. But it's kind of fun for a lot of people. If that's not you, that is ok!

Allseeingallknowing · Yesterday 15:02

OP you are not alone. I don’t understand all the hype , find it boring, and resent all the time given to discussing it on other programmes

Allseeingallknowing · Yesterday 15:06

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · Yesterday 11:06

I have to disagree about Only Fools And Horses not being funny. One of the funniest programmes ever made. IMO. Absolute comedy gold.

People are entitled to not like it of course, but I don't think anyone can say it's not funny.

Probably the same people who say Friends is crap, and not funny. It's not crap and it's very funny!

Exactly this. I used to edit too (corporate guff sadly, not actual fiction). The whole purpose of writing is to introduce ideas with clarity. Word salads make my eyes hurt, and I would have drawn a red line through that entire paragraph.

Some reality shows are good. Granted iacgmooh is repetitive now but we are what, 25yrs in? It used to be really entertaining in its heyday. This is the second celeb series of Traitors and you'd think the work experience staff were planning the missions.

They've got the castle, the scenery, Claudia, the music. They just need some better content.

QueenietheGreat · Yesterday 17:39

Honestly I've never watched it because I never liked the sound if it to start with
Don't/never did care what others raved about.

@Traitor8er you are perfectly entitled to not enjoy spoon fed overblown BBC sheepy TV, there are millions that do, you aren’t alone.
