To not be able to like Traitors?

Traitor8er · Yesterday 09:17

I can't be alone surely? Tried to watch as there's some interesting people in series 2. I didn't watch 1st series. Maybe that's the issue?
I just couldn't see the appeal?
It's obviously massive.

Should I keep watching as otherwise I'm missing a fantastic series?

OP posts:

If you’re not feeling it, you’re not feeling it OP. I wouldn’t worry about it. This series isn’t half as good as the first celebrity one imho. I feel it hasn’t really found its feet yet, I’ve found myself being a bit bored.

LondonLass2026 · Yesterday 12:40

I never like what "the masses" do. Eg Traitors, Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey. When something is hyped to the extent of these shows it just puts me off. It's not like I have massively high standards - I watch Classic Eastenders when I'm stuck for something to watch - but I just hate hype.

You don't have to feel like you need to watch anything just because society tells you you should. I've had stupid comments like "ARE YOU MAD?? YOU DON'T WATCH (insert name of stupidly hyped show here). DO YOU LIVE UNDER A ROCK???" I just tell them No, I'm not mad, thanks all the same. I don't smile or laugh politely, I don't engage. I'm not explaining my choices to idiots.

See, I would agree with this if more of it was “in plain sight” murders.

But as it says, you’ve got people sleuthing, but there is nothing to go on - the traitors don’t do anything other than meet up in complete secret and send a letter to kill people. Therefore I don’t really get all the sleuthing. As pp said, they act like it’s cleverer than it is.

I liked the in plain sight ones - Allan Carr having to quote the shakepeare line to kill someone, or touch someone’s face.

in saying that I do quite enjoy it but don’t quite feel it lives up to the hype. The tasks are good though. Haven’t seen any of this series yet but looking forward to it

Fair enough, I agree with this to some extent. More "in plain sight" murders, and more opportunities for the faithful to obtain actual evidence, would improve the game IMHO. I still like it as it is, though.

The American one, same castle is infinitely more entertaining.
Alan Cumming is an amazing host compared to Claudia

Alan Cumming is the reason I can't watch the US one. He's a great actor but a ridiculous host on that show.

I am in the market for a version of Pointless where no one asks the contestants, celebrity or not, anything about themselves, and just go straight to the questions.

Total derail, but I can get behind this. I really just watch it because I like the awkward banter between Xander and Richard (and countries, by which I mean a sovereign state that is a member of the UN in its own right - I will accept Timor-Leste in answer to any question and it will always be Pointless).

Thank you! Would also like to point out that Maya Jama is not white and she selected the first murder victim of the series. Richard E Grant said she should choose.

The first to be banished this year by a group vote was Richard himself.

Edited

I know it's frowned on (on here) to comment on the appearance of women, but I think it's such a shame that Maya Jama has gone down the fillers and botox route. She's very pretty and always has been, and her face needed nothing doing to it. But it's very clear, looking at her on Celebrity Traitors, that she has now started to inject fillers into her face, at just 32 years of age.

My 2 DC are a similar age to her, and I would be so upset if they started injecting fillers into their face at such a young age.

Also agree. I really don’t need to hear someone’s life story

montysmaw · Yesterday 12:48

I like it, don't love it. Kids like it.
I do enjoy the ridiculous way they latch onto a suspect based on NOTHING because their is nothing. There are no clues because they aren't actually murdering anybody .
Fascinating example of group think.
Also, I am another one not getting the Claudia love. Perfectly competent presenter like other competent presenters. And I hate the weird clothes , hair and make up! Cant fathom the fashion icon thing.

Yes! Though I do also want to know more about how they recruit the 100 people and give them 100 seconds to list Tom Hanks films with more than three words in the title or completely landlocked sovereign states or whatever, because some of the results are very surprising to me...

Onefairfish · Yesterday 12:51

I enjoy it. It’s so interesting to see how brilliantly people can pull together on the challenges, and how totally useless they are at spotting someone who is lying. But I don’t like a lot of very popular programmes, it’s just a matter of what appeals to you personally, no wrongs or rights.

emmas123 · Yesterday 12:53

I like the celebrity traitors because you tend to skip the tedious backstories that seems inescapable for any reality/ game show to inflict on viewers. (I really don't care you're winning money for your grandmother's sick hamster's ingrowing toenail surgery - in fact I'd have more respect for someone who wants to win the money and piss it all on a round-the-world cruise).

This year's is not as fun as last years IMO. James Acaster (who I normally find very funny) is a bore and keeps complaining about how he's so honest and hates lying (so why he agreed to join the show is beyond me) and it's proof to me that people perceived as very intelligent due to their academia are often not as smart as you'd think (Sorry Hannah, Maya is very clearly the brains of the outfit). REG is a ray of sunshine, and it's a shame his clueless-ness got him out so quickly! I think the producers were hoping to re-create a bit of Alan Carr magic.

But in answer to the original post, why on earth would you be unreasonable? It's OK to not like things - I'm not sure why you need approval on whether to like it or not.

Agree with this. I tend to like things I 'think' I will be good at, for example I cannot hold a tune so have never enjoyed X Factor/The Voice etc, but I do have good rhythm and even got offered a job and won an (amateur and random) competition in a certain type of dancing so I liked Strictly.

A colleague's husband writes the questions for Pointless and other shows.

I actually have a recurring dream (and daydream) that I get to the final and the category is Russian Literature and we have to name 3 pointless characters in War & Peace or Anna Karenina.

cartagenagina · Yesterday 12:58

YANBU not to like it. I absolutely love it but we can’t all like the same things so who cares? 🤷‍♀️

soutwestchooochoo · Yesterday 12:59

Boring crap.

The questions are great! It's just that I find some of the answers really surprising (that in a random sample of 100 people answering questionnaires more people knew X than Y).

I agree with you, i know it is her face and right to do what she wants etc etc, but i think she is spoiling her beautiful face.

AgualusasL0ver · Yesterday 13:03

@Facecreamed I agree, I do wonder about the demographics of the group, because if it is random, it won't be balanced, but if it is balanced that sort of defeats the purpose.

My Dds are round about her age so I think 32 is really young to start messing with your face, and would think mine were mad to start doing it.

I like the celeb traitors but cannot watch the non celebrate ones

But who is trying to be ‘all high and mighty’? I have four degrees and hardly ever watch TV, but am watching and enjoying Traitors, and have as hearty an appetite for enjoyable nonsense as anyone. I would like to watch way more TV, actually, but I do not want to commit to a 7-season behemoth, and I hate anything to do with crime, whether true crime or fictional TV series about criminal investigations/police etc , so that limits me a lot!

So the poster who used the ‘m’ word and told people to get out more and read books wasn’t trying to be superior (but actually failed being superior by using a derogatory term)

StrawberryStreet · Yesterday 13:18

Well, I'm genuinely baffled as to why a show as unpleasantly graphically violent, especially as regards using graphic sexual violence towards women as a way of expediting male-centred plotlines, as Game of Thrones was so popular and got so much hype. But tastes differ. It's not that complicated.

Edited

Yes tastes do differ. I didn't watch GOT as I knew the gratuitously violent content etc so knew it wasn't my cup of tea.

Here's the thing though I quite like silly celeb reality shows, iacgmooh etc so it isn't that much of a stretch to think I'd like this what with all the publicity etc but the content is just so lacking. How may times must we hear 'I think she's a traitor' without anything to back it up expect applying lipgloss or something irrelevant.

It is all so very tenuous. It has all the ingredients but it is such a damp squib of nothingness which reveals all the celebs barring Rob and Romesh to be rather dull and one a bit snippy too, I'm looking at you Miranda.

LivingDeadGirlUK · Yesterday 13:20

I love Traitors and I think its the only show I've seen where I prefer the celeb version. The fact they know each other means they don't just vote of the brown or ND people first, and agree with PP about not having the tedious back story bits.

Think Miranda is the dark horse in this series, she's been on the nose about a few things and I think people are underestimating her.

Loveofeclairs · Yesterday 13:25

I watched the first one and enjoyed it, but had no interest in the following series. Once the novelty wore off I thought it would be just more of the same. So as a concept I think it’s a bit overhyped.

I watch celebrity traitors because of the celebrities.
