To not be able to like Traitors?

Traitor8er · Yesterday 09:17

I can't be alone surely? Tried to watch as there's some interesting people in series 2. I didn't watch 1st series. Maybe that's the issue?
I just couldn't see the appeal?
It's obviously massive.

Should I keep watching as otherwise I'm missing a fantastic series?

Bella uses they / them pronouns

Good for her 🙄🙄🙄

CruelsummerTS · Yesterday 09:58

The celebrity version is never as good as the series with normal people . Watch those on iPlayer.

Great thanks. Them was shit in it.

I also don’t like it, don’t see the appeal and don’t want to be told I have to watch it. Those that love it , carry on, those that don’t likewise

sittingonabeach · Yesterday 10:04

In our family it is a programme that encompasses 3 generations, so although we watch it separately we get into discussions about it with both MIL and adult DC. We don’t always watch it live so have to warn MIL not to give any spoilers in group chat!

It’s one of the very few programmes I can get my teenagers to sit and watch with me nowadays so for that, I love it. We watch Traitors and GBBO religiously and it’s a real time to bond and have a bit of fun. The celebrity one may as well be normal people for them though, they don’t know who anyone is aside from Hannah Fry and eldest knew Amol from UC.

MellowSubmarine · Yesterday 10:05

I can’t be alone surely

Well obviously.

Threads like this pop up occasionally. “Am I the only person who doesn’t like [insert generic popular thing here]???”.

But you know you aren’t. So what are you asking?

CurlewKate · Yesterday 10:06

I have no interest in “civilian” Traitors-and I don’t think I’d watch the celebrity version on my own. But I LOVE watching it together-we have family online watch parties.

nomas · Yesterday 10:10

I haven't seen the celebrity version, but the normal version is awful the way they eliminate a brown or Muslim person first nearly every single time. It really shows people's deep seated prejudices. You could tell Claudia was fucked off with the contestants for doing it.

Actually I read that even in the last celebrity version an Asian man was voted off.

What the hell is wrong with these people?!

My Dc are adults with their own houses lives etc etc. But we watch celeb traitors "together" and communicate over messages and gifs 😀

Actually, that’s true. I’m not sure it would occur to me to watch it alone, but it’s one I watch with DH and teenage DS (for whom Kenny is the famous one and most of the rest are weird elderly irrelevances).😃

The Celebrity one is not as good as the Joe Public one.
In the Celebrity one they often know one another and it can affect how they are to each other.

And as with all things BBC. Anything good and they invariably cod’s it up.
They tinker with it. Try to improve it. And usually try too hard. And the thing that made it good in the first place is lost.

Am not finding the current series much to watch. So no you are not unreasonable.

A lot hinges on the traitors who are selected. Get that wrong and the show falls flat. I often end up disliking the Traitors more than I possibly should.

And with the Celebrity on in particular, there is the notion they are there to boost their ratings/popularity which can be a bit of a turn off.

tinyspiny · Yesterday 10:13

I don’t watch it but there are lots of programmes that other people love that I don’t watch and I should imagine loads of people wouldn’t want to watch what I do .

Aussiesgettingsmashed · Yesterday 10:16

Anyone who doesn’t like Claudia is a wrong un.

AgentPidge · Yesterday 10:16

I don't watch it because I don't like deception and value honesty, and I found the one episode I did watch extremely dull because of the continual tedious speculation ( based on nothing) of whether so-and-so might be a traitor.

Yes this is what gets me as well. I know a lot of people find it fun (and the similar games Werewolf/Mafia) because you're just pulling theories out your arse, but I find it so stupid. Trying to justify this and that when it's just someone being daft at breakfast.

Then when a traitor does slip up, even though someone might pick up on it, someone else is louder with their own stupid theory and a faithful is voted off. I like watching the tasks but find the roundtables excruciating.

WhereYouLeftIt · Yesterday 10:22

I think it's interesting, watching people convince themselves that they 'know' who are the Traitors, based on nothing at all or a Traitor planting seeds of doubt about a Faithful which then grows exponentially.

I especially love when people insist that they are good at reading people, because even if they were it would be irrelevant. Those picked as Traitors would be read as the people they are, not the role they are playing in this game.

It's human psychology laid bare.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · Yesterday 10:26

I CBA with the civilian version, but I do find the celebrity one fairly watchable. I do record it and watch it the next day though, but I do find myself fast forwarding through the tasks/challenges/games, as they tend to go on a bit!

I watch it, but wouldn't cry if it was never shown again after this year, and I do think it's a bit over-hyped, and there's a bit of Emperor's New Clothes going on with it.

There wasn't an "Asian man" voted off in the last celebrity version and the last 3 standing included Nick Mohammed and David Olusoga.

I guess it also comes down to the characters playing it so maybe a different set of players would make me enjoy it more

i know no one is allowed to say this but I’m also not a fan of Claudia’s!

I can’t stand her, I never understood how she got so far in her career, she’s been around a long time.
I tried to watch it because everyone loves it, I think I like the early episodes where people are just presenting themselves but the game itself is boring and I cba with a lot of reality shows, especially celeb ones where they are paid extortionate amounts and only show the ‘reality’ they choose to show.
big brother early days is where people were pretty innocent and naive about their appearance on tv , nowadays everyone is hoping for a career change just for bring on tv, I can’t stand watching people play up to the camera

PingPong91 · Yesterday 10:33

Of course it's not unreasonable to not like something! It doesn't matter the reason. There is loads of popular stuff I don't understand or find interesting at all - football, soap operas, strictly come dancing, love island, love is blind, I'm a celebrity, etc etc etc. Not because I don't get them, they're just not my bag. I don't feel I'm missing out - I'm sure they're all great in their own way, they're just not for me.
