Colin is not a birthday cake

Tomorrow our younger daughter is 24. I would love to have the energy to make her a cake but I’m running on fumes and have been for months.

I gave my husband one job. Go buy her a birthday cake. He sent me a photograph Colin. I said no, there is only one time a year she can have a cake with happy birthday written on it. Would you believe such a thing does not exist at our nearest M&S!

Her older sister has come to the rescue, she’s gone to Sainsbury’s.

YABU Colin is the gold standard shop bought cake

YANBU Colin is an any time of year cake

You are being contrary and continue to be so.

I went into even more exact detail with my family than I did on here, I even showed my adult dd what I meant. I wanted a BIRTHDAY cake. Not just any cake, but a sponge birthday cake with white fondant icing and Happy Birthday written on it. The sort of cake that nobody on Earth could mistake for anything other than a birthday cake, and would never buy for any other occasion. My dd knew exactly what I meant, but unfortunately, she was not the one who bought it.

YABU purely because those types of shop bought birthday cakes usually taste synthetic and vice.

Writing something in capital letters doesn't make it MORE TRUE.

Any cake can be a birthday cake.

A white sponge cake can be eaten at any time.

Truth.

Like what? How often are people buying decorated cakes for occasions other than birthdays? He's a birthday cake.

A retirement. An anniversary. A new job. Leaving a job. A new home. A new baby. Valentine's Day. Welcome home from a trip abroad. You passed your exams! You passed your driving test! You got the part! You ran the marathon! You won the league! Just because.

Blooming eck I’d rather have a Colin than a generic sainsbugs birthday cake any day of the week.

we only have Colin’s on our birthday

Oh no! My guilty pleasure is a Sainsbury's traybake - especially the vanilla one.

Mmm, cake tastes like vice 🤣

As a grandma to a coeliac child the GF Colin saved her birthday last year when my homemade Gf cake accidentally got contaminated with gluten at her party!

@sherbetlemonade my sympathies. Your idea of a birthday cake is exactly what I want for DD . Victoria sponge, white icing says Happy Birthday. Fortunately older DD bought exactly that from Sainsbury’s.

The daughter whose birthday it is has had a very tough year. Getting to 24 is an achievement and that is why an unmistakable birthday cake is important to me.

What didn’t you buy or make one then?

@HappyViewer try walking in someone else’s shoes before being goady

But ok I’m bite the bait.

Because I have poorly controlled epilepsy I can not drive.
Because yesterday I was on my knees with exhaustion. HTH
