Colin is not a birthday cake

BeMintFatball · Yesterday 11:52

Tomorrow our younger daughter is 24. I would love to have the energy to make her a cake but I’m running on fumes and have been for months.

I gave my husband one job. Go buy her a birthday cake. He sent me a photograph Colin. I said no, there is only one time a year she can have a cake with happy birthday written on it. Would you believe such a thing does not exist at our nearest M&S!

Her older sister has come to the rescue, she’s gone to Sainsbury’s.

YABU Colin is the gold standard shop bought cake

YANBU Colin is an any time of year cake

I don't think this is weaponised incompetence since probably half of the people on this thread would agree with him that Colin in fine as a birthday cake...he hasn't done the task wrong, just different to what op would have chosen

But he has a penis so he must have done something wrong intentionally🙄

@BeMintFatball I wish I had so much head space, and such a trouble-free life, that I could get annoyed at the suggestion of Colin the Caterpillar being used as a birthday cake.

🙄 enough time and free headspace to complain a out someone complaining about Colin as a birthday cake though

I was just musing last week to DH, having bought yet another Colin for a birthday, how popular they are and how much M&S must have made from them, lawsuits notwithstanding.

Definitely the gold standard. The mini ones are delicious too.

This year I didn’t get my DS a big one and instead I bought lots of little ones and made a display with a load of tea lights, he loved it, he’d 28😀

Well this is a revelation. I'd say Colin is a birthday cake and it would be slightly odd to have one for any other occasion.

I don't know what Colin is for if it's not to serve as a birthday cake.

Wewinnow · Yesterday 17:36

I’m planning to get a wheat free Colin for my son’s 24th. I think he’ll be happy - good shop bought gluten free cakes can be quite hit and miss but this one is said to be delicious.

Unpopular opinion alert - Colin is overrated!! I’d be disappointed with a glorified Swiss roll for my birthday.

How would you feel if i got a bog standard swiss roll and put my own buttercream, smarties and choc buttons on it, plus candles etc? That's what i've always done for my youngest (now 11), he always seemed to like it, but i think i'll have to come up with a new trick for his 12th!

Opinions will vary I’m sure. I doubt though, if it was a nonissue, that the OP would have bothered with thread.

My birthday is December 25th and there have been times growing up when candles were put on a Yule Log.

Madness. No other occasion calls for a Colin, why else would you buy one?! Of course it’s a birthday cake, that’s his whole purpose.

I want some birthday cake now.😋

Any cake is a Birthday Cake if you stick a candle in it.

In fact a Pork Pie can become a Birthday Cake once a candle has been added.

And, of course, so can a Pot Noodle (although you have to leave the foil on).

one hopes you didn’t learn the foil trick by bitter experience.

That's hilarious (sorry). Who doesn't like a yule log? Very pagan. So is celebrating birthdays, so i guess it works?

Wash your mouth out OP.

This thread is a disgrace.

People eat Colin when it’s NOT their birthday?!

alexdgr8 · Yesterday 18:41

I rather like the look of Cuthbert unadorned...
Do I have a problem?

It apparently started in 1990 when I was 12 and I think I would have found it too childish then.

Well I’m 47 next week and DD has just bought me a Colin. And I’m bloody delighted. Maybe I’m childish; but I don’t care.

NattyPeachBalonz · Yesterday 19:51

@alexdgr8 he does look rather tasty doesn't he 😆

I did indeed, after the candle had solidified in my large intestine. Fortunately my Mum had tbe insight to run a hot bath and moved the 'blockage' on - only to find the plughole bunged up in the morning.
We laugh about it now but Dad was furious when his shaving foam failed to disappear down the pipe and he feared he had contracted rabies!

We're going away for my daughter's birthday so I bought these from M&S.

We had these for DS’s birthday but rearranged them to read BATH YARD HIPPY.
They are very nice and chocolatey!
