It is incorrect btw to say that it's right wing or left wing thing to raise the issue of violence against women and girls

Call it a rise in a different label if you prefer - call it a rise in authoritarianism. That’s come from both sides of the binary label system we use, you’re right there. It started with polite fictions and political correctness and turned into liberal fascism or inverted totalitarianism, whatever you want to call it - I call it corruption and being co-opted. Meanwhile the Overton window shifted right and we had the re run of imperialist Neo liberalism. It’s a real phenomenon of cultural change. The internet, brought in to democratise, is democratising to the lowest common denominator, sold by the money-lovers to men, and women are simply viewed as available collateral damage. Always we don’t really matter to men.

sethrogansaunt · 06/10/2026 22:37

Completely agree. I have spoken to my kids (1M 1f both teenagers) about Cornell7. Has my husband? Has he heck. He’s a good ‘un, but even he doesn’t realise that men need to start shouting as loudly about this as women are.

the sleepover may be at the core of this. If it was premeditated then he wouldn’t have done it with guests so there must have been an incident.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Some evil men just love an audience, and some are so deranged they aren’t even capable of considering when a “good” time to murder someone is.

For example -

It's a torrent of shit at the moment. I think the online environment and the rise of right wing politics is making things worse for women. I've seen what is essentially a reverse of women's situations over time in my lifetime recently and it's frightening.

There are a lot of very very powerful misogynists in the world and in the media.

This is an extremely chronically online position to equate right wing politics and violence against women? Bizarre. Hardly the rise of the right wing when we've had Conservative government for 14 years.

Perhaps. But for someone to be that evil it’s hard to know.

Why does someone murder their wife?

I don't understand..how do you do this to someone you have 3 kids with? Like you love your kids....how do you take away their mother from them?

I literally can't fathom this. DH and have had such horrific arguments in the past but he's never laid a hand on me.

This makes me sick to much stomach.

It’s like my therapist says to me: but you’re thinking as someone who has empathy, who cares about other people and would consider their feelings. These men are only bothered about their own feelings.

If they feel angry, rejected, slighted, whatever they think that gives them the right to lash out or even kill. They don’t even care about the effects that might have on their children or other family members. Because they, and only they, count.

To a lesser extent my ex was like this and many men are. He would quite happily see me on my knees with exhaustion and not have a problem with that. He would convince himself that he was fine just seeing to himself, going to the pub, pottering around on his phone while I could barely speak I was so tired doing practically everything with the children and in the house. He JUST DIDNT CARE. And this is a logical extension of that attitude. Women don’t count in these men’s world.

It’s always ‘Male violence’ when it’s a white male. If it was someone from a different race that would be the title.

Not really. Don't put words in my mouth.

There’s no deterrent though. Domestic abuse perpetrators rarely get a custodial sentence, if they do they’re out soon enough and back to the area their victim live. Yes there might be a restraining order in place but breaches of this get minimal consequences. So effectively to maintain her and her children’s safety, the victim has to uproot her life and move. Then contact is likely to be court ordered.

I read about a man who got a community order for possession of 100’s of child sexual abuse images - of all categories.

The way rapists don’t get punished if they’re young men with potentially bright futures, yet the female victim who had a potentially bright future are not only left with the recovery and trauma after being raped, but the knowledge that their rapists have gotten away with it and been protected.

The language around it all protects men and minimises it too. It’s horrific. I’m raising 2 boys and talk to them all the time about these horrific crimes and what I expect of them but they’re also quiet kids who I’m not sure would challenge others. It’s very worrying.

There needs to be a massive overhaul of the justice system with real consequences but whilst men are in positions of power that won’t happen.

Tell me about it.

After my ex harmed my child, the Social Services investigation found that I should be doing more to support their relationship. It's a man's world.

One of the guys who is accused of raping the unconcious lady who's husband drugged her up in Stockport is wearing a paramedics uniform in the picture of him https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckq63vq3y4m1o
Disgusting and everywhere.

Image shows the exterior of Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, a modern building with red brick wall and a bottle-green glass central area above the front area.

Husband who drugged and raped wife for 20 years no longer part of trial

Twelve other men are still due to stand trial accused of serious sexual offences against the same woman.

Conpletely agree. As soo as rhe story broke I'm aure many others thought of her partner.

It is utterly sickening.

All violence. Too many people I know have been hurt by women as well as men, and I'm sick of people making jokes/belittling anyone complaining about being hurt by a woman partner, whether in a heterosexual or gay partnership.

Ffs🙄

Excuses are made for violence all the time though, another thread running where OP cites her son as being nice but dim

He basically targets people that he thinks need a telling off and bullies and frightens them, pretends he's a police officer etc etc

Apparently the poor lamb has ADHD and so theres tons of blather about how his poor brain isnt developed, he will grow up and out of it, he cant help it, he has a condition resulting in this that and the other

All excuses, I dont really care whats wrong with someone or what condition they have, they need to behave to expected standards in society. These same men who end up being violent are 5 years earlier having threads made about them to say how awful or unfair they've been exluded from school or had some other consequences that they shouldnt have because they have some condition or other.

Yes...!!!!
The "nice but dim" thread.

I couldn t even comment... there was fuck all nice about him. He sounded like a dangerous lunatic...

jeaux90 · 07/10/2026 07:15

@seahorsessky more than 95% of sexual assaults are committed by males according to the ONS so please stop with the nonsense.

No doubt another situation where she wanted to leave him, and he couldn't handle the rejection. Absolutely pathetic.

I'm starting to think all men. Because the Cornell group chat had 57 men in it. 7 raped a drugged woman, 49 ignored the chat and did nothing or sent emojis. 1 was asleep at the time and texted the thread to the victim in the morning so she had the evidence.

1/57. Who did the bare minimum. Less than 2% of a group of privileged, pampered, intelligent men.

I have men in my life I love. But the proportion of men who allow this shit to happen is horrifying.

How exactly do men "allow" it to happen?

SockPlant · 07/10/2026 07:50

chirrupybird · 06/10/2026 20:29

Twice as many men get murdered as women, all murders are horrible, and oppression of women is still a terrible thing but don't put it out of proportion, there are a lot of nasty people out there who kill men as well. I guess women are more likely to be killed by a partner.

Take this stupid comment elsewhere.

FGS it is tedious

TallSturdyGirls · 07/10/2026 07:52

FlyingApple · 06/10/2026 21:15

The police and society as a whole are complicit in it. We allow men with violent and antisocial behaviours to offend and reoffend. Where is the demand to protect women and children?

Having worked with the police pretty certain they harbour more violent men than other professions. The culture in many forces is more misogynistic and racist than the average place of work.

In the Cornell case by not doing anything to prevent rape.

By not stopping it? By not telling their mates to stop being abusers?

57 Cornell guys in the chat AND NOT ONE REPORTED IT TO THE POLICE

ChoppyWalters · 07/10/2026 08:00

We are meant to be the same species but men are altogether different beasts. I think the view that we would be better off in a world without men is gaining a lot of traction, and I have been in that camp for a long time. Men have done some wondrous things, like construction and engineering. But the destruction they cause far outweighs the construction. I feel so sorry for younger females. They are slave to their hormones and will go through the same trajectory as most of us - trying to find a man as society dictates. It isn’t worth it, the risks to your life both in just being your own person, or the risk to life. Men are contemptuous. Even the ones you think are decent only have their own interests at heart, and would trample on you to do what they want.
