Can you imagine? It's absolutely awful.

It's a torrent of shit at the moment. I think the online environment and the rise of right wing politics is making things worse for women. I've seen what is essentially a reverse of women's situations over time in my lifetime recently and it's frightening.

There are a lot of very very powerful misogynists in the world and in the media.

Kerryblue · 06/10/2026 14:44

Who did this to her? Has anyone been charged?

So agree.

A man has been arrested.

The lack of information presented strongly suggests that it is a man known to her, so I would wager husband or boyfriend.

Same age as the victim. Partner, ex-partner, similar.

Now we wait for the 'he was such a lovely quiet man blah blah blah', oops it turns out he wasn't and there's a history.

Meanwhile the world has lost a wonderful women, serving her community as a GP.

Not all men.

But always a man....

I'm starting to think all men. Because the Cornell group chat had 57 men in it. 7 raped a drugged woman, 49 ignored the chat and did nothing or sent emojis. 1 was asleep at the time and texted the thread to the victim in the morning so she had the evidence.

1/57. Who did the bare minimum. Less than 2% of a group of privileged, pampered, intelligent men.

I have men in my life I love. But the proportion of men who allow this shit to happen is horrifying.

All men are born from a woman. You wonder what they think about their own female relatives!!

Agreed . Nothing has changed , ever .

We are living in dark times. I'm so worried for my daughter's future.

It’s so disturbing. But yes, it does feel like all men. Look at how many seemingly “normal” men were implicated in the Pelicot case.

I read a comment recently that said something like: Men are protectors, but they're protectors of other men, not women.

I think there's a lot of truth in that.

Greenseawitch · 06/10/2026 19:40

I agree.

The news are just constantly full of violent acts against women and girls committed by men.

My own experience with men throughout my life has been mostly awful.

I still want to believe that there are some decent men out there but I think there is a serious issue with toxic masculinity across the board and the fact that so many men don't see women as equal human being but rather as possessions and sexual targets.

Not to mention the fact that these men seem to get away with it and get protected/supported by other men.

It is truly sad to have to come to that realisation and at this point I am glad that I made the choice not to get involved in relationships or friendships with men. Better for my mental health and safety.

seahorsessky · 06/10/2026 19:52

All violence. Too many people I know have been hurt by women as well as men, and I'm sick of people making jokes/belittling anyone complaining about being hurt by a woman partner, whether in a heterosexual or gay partnership.

SockPlant · 06/10/2026 19:56

just pack it in, @seahorsessky

this conversation is about male violence against women.

If you want to talk about how poor ol' men have it bad too, do it elsewhere, there's a poppet.

Men only protect women they care about.

I have suppoted many people through violence by women. But this thread is about violence by men. Which is epidemic, allowed, celebrated and causes countless deaths. We are allowed to name it.

Allseeingallknowing · 06/10/2026 20:09

The husband has been charged with the murder

Whenthecriwdsayno · 06/10/2026 20:12

It’s always ‘Male violence’ when it’s a white male. If it was someone from a different race that would be the title.

Greedybilly · 06/10/2026 20:13

Jesus the misogyny is unreal in the world right now. So sad and awful for both our sons and our daughters.

No. Racists do that. I have said many times on those threads that it's male violence.

In every culture and place and time since fixed agriculture, it's male violence.

SereneMember · 06/10/2026 20:17

Why does someone murder their wife?

I don't understand..how do you do this to someone you have 3 kids with? Like you love your kids....how do you take away their mother from them?

I literally can't fathom this. DH and have had such horrific arguments in the past but he's never laid a hand on me.

This makes me sick to much stomach.

SodOffbacktoaibu · 06/10/2026 20:19

@SereneMember but they're effectively orphaned. No Dad either. He'll be in prison and they will have no relationship with him because how could they after this? Absolutely horrendous.
