I don't really eat much sweet stuff but I really fancied something tonight, so I made some pancakes. Took about 15 mins, so quick and cheap. We had them with lemon and sugar....mmmm
Nothing fancy ....but delicious!

What is your simple and underrated favorite?

This morning, on hols in Europe, I fried a large tomato that was starting to ‘go’, and had it on toast. 😋

I've just got hold of some Marmite, after nearly a year and a half of deprivation! I'm not in the UK and it's quite rare and quite dear here, so I'm rediscovering the joy of well-cooked toast with copious amounts of butter and Marmite, sometimes with cooked tomatoes or mushrooms on top.

I recently found out that there is a Swiss invention called Cenovis also sold as Sonaris in other European countries which is very similar to Marmite.

You would never guess what is was by the packaging of it though. Your best guess would be some kind of herbal toothpaste when it's in a tube or a weird kind of pine needle tea when it's in a jar.

Ham and butter sandwiches on crusty bread. Delish. The French haven't forgotten this one, but we have.

This is my favourite Friday night supper.

Ooh thanks, I'll keep an eye out for it at the shops! Aldi seems like they might have it.

Honestly, lasagne and chips is my favourite meal in the world. I’m almost ashamed to admit it because it’s so basic and the chips element so vulgar I guess but it’s fucking delicious.

AInightingale · 09/10/2026 16:58

God, I used to love Tartex paste sandwiches. It was a vegetarian spread which is quite difficult to get now, Holland and Barrett used to sell it. Such a simple meal, with a bowl of soup, tomato or home-made.

Vesta Beef Risotto

chaosmaker · Yesterday 08:29

I liked the Vesta Beef Chow Mein with the the crispy things you fried.
Also corned beef fritters with ketchup or mustard.
