I don't really eat much sweet stuff but I really fancied something tonight, so I made some pancakes. Took about 15 mins, so quick and cheap. We had them with lemon and sugar....mmmm
Nothing fancy ....but delicious!

What is your simple and underrated favorite?

Threads on here about filling up teenage boys: I'm the only one that ever says butter on bread & a glass of milk. <shrug>

Egg and chips
Toasted Soreen with butter

SusanSHelit · 03/10/2026 19:57

You really can't beat a jacket potato with beans and cheese or a fried egg butty with lots of butter and salt

Or a big bowl of vegetable soup with some nice crusty bread

Nopenousername · 03/10/2026 19:57

I love semolina with a blob of jam, haven’t had it for decades though

MyCatIsAnAeroplane · 03/10/2026 20:00

Dippy egg and soldiers
Cheese on toast
Tinned tomatoes with white onion on toast
Toast and Marmite
Beans on toast with loads of Worcestershire sauce
Pasta with salt, pepper and butter
Jacket potato with butter & cheese
cheese & onion sandwich with lots of salt and pepper!

There’s a few common themes there!

Cucumber sandwiches

I love cucumbers. People always make fun as theyre plain and tastless apparently. 😑

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 03/10/2026 20:01

Yes I agree. Fried eggs and home made chips, jacket potato with cheese and beans, chip butty, cheese and pickle sandwich with real butter on, baked beans on toast, sausage mash and peas with gravy. If I didn't have kids and have to set a good example and make them eat veg these are the sort of meals I would eat when I got in from work, I hate cooking with a passion but love eating.

RubberyChicken · 03/10/2026 20:02

A cup of beans, with a sausage in it. You can use the sausage to scoop the beans oot.

Greedybilly · 03/10/2026 20:04

Pancakes are amazing and so cheap! Also bsked spuds and beans on toast. Best meals ever.

Vaguelyclassical · 03/10/2026 20:05

Sausage and mash. Pork sausages, not beef or chicken or plant substitute. . Freshly made mash, not too creamed, a wee bit floury in texture, with a good dab of butter.

fumingrightnow1 · 03/10/2026 20:07

Cheese and tomato omelette sandwich

Vaguelyclassical · 03/10/2026 20:07

And for any Americans reading, the pancakes mentioned by OP are "crepes" not the thicker US breakfast pancakes; thin and delicate and piping hot and oh my, the lemon juice and sugar . . .

beans on toast. Had some last night after a very busy day where I only had breakfast. Simple easy and hit the spot last night

Agreed!

MrsAvocet · 03/10/2026 20:15

We had poached eggs on toast for lunch today. Lovely fresh eggs laid by our own hens, wholemeal bread and real butter. Doesn't get much better!

LaurieFairyCake · 03/10/2026 20:17

I eat beans on toast twice a week

my favourite, sometimes with a couple of fried eggs and cheese

Sunloungerhogger · 03/10/2026 20:18

Egg in a cup with lots of butter.

Haha, I eat this religiously every morning for breakfast with a slice of buttered toast.

EasternStandard · 03/10/2026 20:22

Rare to have it but really good deli bread and loads of butter.

Cheese on toast. Or Welsh rarebit if you're being fancy about it. With Wash Your Sister sauce.

None of that fancy Italian, "Pizza" tomato puree infested muck.

Extra marks for making it under an eye level gas grill but I don't think they really exist these days.

Wash your sister sauce 🤣

Spaghetti. French salted butter (with the lumps of salt in it). Freshly milled black pepper. Two squished garlic cloves and a shake of lemon juice. Five minutes and you’re done.

grated Parmesan on top if I can be arsed.

Ludijo · 03/10/2026 20:29

Toast, real butter, and marmite

SayDoWhatNow · 03/10/2026 20:30

Agree with jacket potato + cheese. Also good with tuna and corn.

Love scrambled eggs or fried eggs - on toast or in a morning roll.

Also:

  • tattie scones/ potato cakes
  • colcannon with butter
  • tuna mayo toastie with cheese and sweet corn
  • leek and potato soup
  • cornbread
  • egg and cress sandwiches
  • tomato and mozzarella with basil and balsamic vinegar
  • really nice fresh veggies like tomatoes and cucumbers, similarly summer fruit like raspberries, strawberries, cherries
  • apples picked off the tree
  • Toast and peanut butter, maybe with raspberry jam
